Just to make sure this GB gets some Vis on the Helo Forum, I updated the initial post in the GB Forum.....

http://www.finescale.com/FSM/CS/forums/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=613190

....and listed the participants and what they are planning to build.  If there's any changes go ahead and post it there and I'll update the list.  Likewise if you see any question marks post the info and I'll update the list.  I also put my choice (so far) of Triggers GB badges.

Now.......How's about the rest of you rotorheads.  Gino? Cobra? Intruderbass?  Did I leave anyone out?  The more the merrier.  And i've got a feeling I may flex the end date to April of 07, just to give ME more time to finish (hell...start) my birds.  C'mon guys, let's all have fun with this one and use our imaginations.

O.K.  I pulled the trigger (sorry Grant) on this one.  Here's the link:

This will actually help me to finally get started back into the modeling deal too.  Been out of it waaaaay too long.

Have fun!

Someone asked what a good CSAR-X canidate would include. From the Boeing proposal I saw here. It appears that it's a stock MH-47E with a few mods. Another article I saw (and I wish I could find it again) stated that the Boeing entry included full cabin climate control, M-134 armament, and what amounts to a full medical package onboard similar to a well-stocked ambulance/aid station. Of course, there will be full ASE, all-weather capability and refueling capability. Hope this helps.

Trigger, I don't have much room to talk (AV-22? Who, me?), but I use the little bit I do have.  I so badly want to get back to building, and I'm on the "downhill slope" of this trip, so that day is coming.  Every time I move, the hobby stuff is last to get unpacked and set up.  And I'm looking at some possible orders that might require the LemonJello Arsenal to close down for a relocation.  We will see on that issue, though.

I'm using the AV-22 as my testbed for interior work.  It's going to come in handy for this GB.  I wonder how I can put some litter racks in there...

Touché Lem! And did I not have company in from out of town this weekend, I'd CA something on my Hawgs just to post some progress. Alas but work and refinishing a 1:1 scale house has been taking up much of my so-called "free time." I've got an office here that I'm going to use for a factory, (which will provide a good size work space for some of the larger kits I have such as the Pave Hawk) but it's somehow been cluttered up while the other rooms are being painted and is the last room scheduled for reworking. Until I get the factory floor up and running, I'm having to improvise, adapt and overcome. In other words, hello dining room table! Good news is, I'm taking this week off from working on the house.

Avus
- I made a lot of mistakes on the interior of mine and after seeing Andy's super-duper DAP build, I'm probably going to close the cabin doors on mine. May use one of my HH-53s as a test for detailing interiors to build up those skills.

Pave - what? I don't know what you're talking about Grant! Big Smile [:D]
Besides I must be getting old, I didn't manage to read the fine print on your last post.

No seriously, I got stuck on the cabin roof and that frustrated me a little. But as soon as I've finished "foiling" my Mustang I'll get back to the Hawk and put a "plain" roof into it, as Sal suggested.

Not to point fingers, but I'm waiting to see some "What If" A-10s from certain people on this forum....

I can feel your pain on not having a dedicated space to work, Trigger.  Last I had heard, Lady LemonJello has "appropriated" my work area for one of her projects while I'm away on business.  Like she needs two desks???  I have nightmares that she's going to move all my unbuilt kits out to the shed and let the North Carolina summer have its way with them.  Sends shivers right down my spine.

Well, at least none of the little 'Jellos have CA'd themselves to the countertop (yet).

For my Pave Phrog, I'm thinking of putting a minigun on each side, would a ramp gun be worthwhile too?  Something to cover the rear arc, but wouldn't get in the way of bringing personnel aboard?  I'm thinking I'd want to be able to supress any welcoming party at the LZ, not really stand and fight toe-to-toe with them, or am I way off base?

Yes people, I'm just having a little bit of fun here at how the H-60 GB seems to have become open ended. I'm personally looking forward to the day I can set up a proper shop in my house so I can get the factory back up to 100% capacity

Those photos really make that point stand out.  I guess I got spoiled riding around in -46s and -53s.  Even with all our packs, it seemed like there was room to stretch out a little bit.  (Sure beat the sardines-in-a-can way we loaded into a 5-ton to go to the field.  Which reminds me of an old saying we had; when asked how much room we had, the answer was always "Room for one more.")

Thanks for taking the reference pics, Sal, now I have a much better idea of what I need to put in my Pave Phrog.

Trigger,

Got the package today.  Thanks for everything.  I'm sharing the wealth with my guys, now I just have to get a couple hours free to follow the exploits of one Irwin R Fletcher.

Just playin with ya buddy....I'm on the tail end of no sleep for 36 hours (self-induced...good training)  Actually I'm working on getting some new stuff here pretty soon and I think you (along with the other Pavehawk fans) will be pretty happy.  I'll probably post them and link it at my Armorama page.

Stay tuned.

No, those are some friggin' sweet pix. Sorry, I thought the copyright on the pix was telling enough of the photographer but I've added a proper credit.

- Internal volume

- Radios, CM controls & fire extingushers

- A jungle penetrator, MA-1 kit and Stokes liter

- Survival gear sled/box (the red box & at least one)

- FRIES Bar, rappel rings and static line cables

Special thanks to our own Salbando for the photos. His complete "Hitchhiker's Guide to the HH-60G" walkaround can be viewed here at ARC

I'm having fun just perusing through Cobra's catalog seeing which of the sets could provide some interesting parts for my future Pave Phrog.  Besides weapons, sensors, countermeasures and a rescue winch, what else would a good CSAR helo need to have?

Hi guys,

I haven't been around - or building - lately but I'd be interested in jumping in on this, too. Being a Sikorsky guy and with no S-92 model out there right now I'd be up for trying that HH-53K. That is as long as the build would allow helos that aren't actually entered in the competition. I'm not sure I could bring myself to buiding an HH-71 :)

Yeah, that would be the deal.  What ever Helo you could imagine being a replacement for the Pavehawk.  Doesn't matter if it's in the CSAR-X competition or not.  Anything.  It would just have to have the appropriate systems for a CSAR bird.

Grant,

Is this what your talking about?

Ditto on the start date. I've got enough projects going on right now that I'm behind on as it is. I can be whipping up some GB badges in the meantime however - does anyone have any top-view drawings for a 4-bladed rotor system?

And the one line that brings a smile to my face, "Get away from her you B!TCH!"

I'm kinda curious about that photo of the armed -60G. Monday I'll ask some of the guys around work if anyone knows what kind of gun pods they used. I'll let you know what I find. Also, as far as the S-92 goes, there were some ideas carried forward from the Blackhawks and Seahawks, but she's really become a new design. If anyone has questions about her let me know - I'll answer what I can.

Take care,

Dan

I haven't seen a date on the 1/48 Hook's release yet.  I'm hoping it and the -53 hit the shelves this summer sometime.

A summer start thru next spring works for me.  I don't think you can ever have too much time, and if we're delayed by late releases, we can always adjust fire as needed.

Perhaps my favorite line:

Avus,

Thanks for the instructions.  I'll get on that most ricky tick.

LJ,

Don't sweat it brother. As a matter of fact, I'm leaning on making the Vul period pretty long a lot of folks (me included) will want to do a 1/48 or 1/35 scale Hook.  So with that in mind, when do you guys think that both of these kits will be readily available and easier to aquire?  I'm leaning on making thw time period for this GB this Summer through next sometime next Spring.  Too long?  Whattaya think?

In keeping with the Aliens theme:

I won't be able to actually build until mid- to late-summer, but don't let that factor in too much.  I can play catch up if need be.  Plus, I can cash in some of my wife's indulgence that I'm back home and grab an extra kit or two from the LHS with less fuss than usual.

I'd better start making a list...various diameters of brass and styrene tube, something for sensor bumps and blisters, another -46 kit...this is going to be FUN!

As far as I know the procedure is:

  • Post in the GB section
  • Set start and end date
  • Create a badge

The dealer I ordered from doesn't have the items in stock, so please don't set the start date too early.

UPDATE
Should get the model next week. Maybe even tuesday (monday is holiday here); so disregard the above sentence about the time span. Thanks.

Well, consensus around the Squadron is mainly HH-47G supporters with a few HH-71 (H-101) proponents thrown into the mix.  We're talking about current Pavehawk crewdogs, and even quite a few ex-HH-3E crewdogs as well.  Kinda funny when you consider the long lineage of Sikorsky birds and their involvement with CSAR/SAR.  But when you look at all the performance and other considerations, that's where it comes down.

So......CSAR-X/Pavehawk replacement it is.  So tell this Cheechako how to get this party started.  Do I have to post it somewhere else on the site?

I think it's a Black Hawk on steroids although it kinda looks like a cross between a Black Hawk and an HH-3 myself, but that's just my 2¢...

I suspect the H-92 has potential to be good Pave Hawk replacement, but the EH.101 and H-47 are just better for the job. But you're right, an HH-92 would be a cool looking model.

LOL, yeah, I was going to say the rest, but this is a family site! Oh yeah, I got your e-mail this morning and that's cool. I'd love to have a drop ship or two, but man, are they hard to find and when you do find one, they run $70+!

"Outstanding. Now all we need is a deck of cards."
