HeavyArty is correct, the 174th never had B's just C's for Gunships and later a few M's.  The Slicks were D's and H's.  We have a list of all the birds in the 174th by tail number on the web page.

Clear Left!

I may have been mistaken about the D-model thing. I am sure my brother-in-law, Tom Dana, flew gunships. Melgyver, if you can remember, please fill me in on details of the aircraft Tom flew mostly.

The kit HeavyArty mentioned is the one I was speaking of...I think.

My brother-in-law flew a UH-1D model gun ship in the 174th. He specifically stated he flew a D-model armed with the M16 system. From what I understand, the H-model is mostly identical, but had a slightly more powerful engine.

I was able to find a Monogram 1/24 scale B-model with the M16 system.

Thanks for your help.

Do you mean the M60 system? I have the Monogram 1/24 UH-1B and it has the M60 gun system.

Nice model, it is. And huge...

Yes, the M16 armament system is duel M60C MGs and an M157 7-shot rocket pod on each side of the helo.  Looks like this:

That is a confusing naming system :) M16 / M60

What's even more confusing is that the M16 system used 4 M60's but no M16's!  The M16 armament system was composed of the M6 quad M60C system and XM157 or M158 7 shot rocket pods just as Gino says.  I agree that the Army could have chosen a less ambiguous designation, though.
