Most desired 1/48 helicopter kit?
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, October 17, 2003 3:26 PM
Ok rotorheads, thought I give us scale-modelling helo fans a chance and cast your vote on the most desired 1/48th helicopter, you'd want to see!

If I missed one, just cast your vote as other.

I voted for one, but there are several that I'd like to see that aren't on the list.

Gots to have the Sea Stallion. It's intimidating and tough.

No Sky Crane nor UH-34D! Speaking of Sky Crane, take a look at this 1/48 scratch built baby ...

There's never (to the best of my limited knowledge) been a kit of the Mojave in any scale.
from what I've read, it was an important piece of kit early on in Vietnam.
Plus, have you ever seen an uglier contraption?
How about a 1/48th S 58 Seahorse/Seabat/Westland Wessex.
My first few years in the RAF were spent doing deep maintenance on the old Wessex,
Corrosion city! We used to outline the corrosion with chalk, to be dealt with later, one day a very senior officer, on an inspection, asked my Corporal why he'd chalked the word 'Rust' next to the outlines. "Can't spell Corrosion, Sir" came the reply, exit VSO trying not to laugh!

I too, would like to see a 1/48 CH-54 Skycrane, AND/OR a CH-37 Mojave kit. So how come ,other than Revell's 1/72 scale CH-54, and an old (?) 1/72 scale vacuform kit of the CH-37, no one has made another, of either, in any other scale??!!

Who cares is it's biased or not. I agree with Sal; we do need some HH-3 kits. That was an important aircraft

CH-53E. Maintenance may be a pain in the butt, but it's the most impressive piece of vertical lift machine I can think of. I am biased.

Got to go with the -53E. I need Big Iron sitting next to my new -46 on the tarmac of my shelves...and with the V-22 off to the side of the old-timers.

My second choice would be for a Hook, either a MH- ACH- or regular CH-47...Heck, make one kit of the -47 and I can wait for the AM companies to give me what I need for the other variants.
A day in the Corps is like a day on the farm; every meal is a banquet, every paycheck a fortune, every formation a parade... The Marine Corps is a department of the Navy? Yeah...The Men's Department.

I agree with Sal on the HH-3. I vote for all of them and to be done in 1/35. Think big if we are going to think about it at all. Mohave would be cool too.

Gino's absolutely correct!!

If you're gonna be a bear...be a grizzly!!!

And unless I'm unaware of something that's already out there, I'm absolutely AMAZED that there aren't several UH-1V conversions or UH-60 Medevac upgrades available.

Here's mine... The CH-46, babyyy!!!!!!!! Can I join that biase club ridleusnc?? Nothing like a -46 to me. Absolutely love that helicopter, now that the Navy doesn't fly the -46 (or at least on the west coast) anymore, I just watch the Marines fly around here at Miramar. Smile [:)] But my vote is the -46 all the way. Ohh by the way ridleusmc, I never worked on the CH-53, but I heard they were a pain in the butt to work on too Smile [:)].

James, check out the newest offerings from Academy. They just put out a great USMC CH-46E in 1/48th! Pick another bird, lol.

James the 46's rock, check out this review. Lots of people say this is a killer kit, but you can make it better with aftermarket goodies.
