They had an ad for the 1/144 version on the back cover of Scale Modeler here in Japan, and that scheme really caught my eye!.. I had thought about it on a 1/35 kit aswell...

Yeah, what would modeling be without a little challenge.. The people that say you cant are the people that don't.. I prefer to see people talk about how it could be done rather than its too difficult! It really is a cool scheme not to be attempted..

I never said it couldn't be done, just that it wasn't as simple as painting a Blackhawk or Pavehawk grey. 

Yeah, I know what you meant, and wasn't directing my coment at you. Rather I was expressing the fact that it is a cool scheme and little bit of work shouldn't stop someone from doing it..

I don't know anything about Navy Helicopters, so is there a reason for the cabin to be empty?

the first MH-60s are going to replace the CH-46 in use by the Navy.  the primary mission was logistics.  The pics are of an aircraft that was set up to have pictures taken of the cabin and cabin deck. 

A special system of rollers can be installed in the cabin to help out in loading and unloading, the cabin has hook up for an internal AUX tank simular to the Pave Hawk's, also seats can be installed like on a Blackhawk.

The Armed Helo version will have short wings for a Hellfire launcher on each side, windo mounted M240's, and a GAU-21 mounted in the cabin almost like the Pave Hawk.

Now that pic certainly does look the business!

I am actually stuck on the idea of an Aussie Army Blackhawk or Aussie Navy Seahawk in 1/35, but wouldn't know where to begin...

They just need to bring out an MRH-90 in 1/35

The HH-60H already carries all of that, plus the SEALS, their geear and more gas.  I am just biased though since I was a Sh*tter driver turned Hotel bubba.  I think the 60S is a nice bird, but needs to be improved before it takes our mission in country

I know what you mean I was with HCS-5 in BIAP and Balad, did a tour with the Redwolves as well. 

The only thing the Hotel dosn't have is the GAU-21.  To bad that thing shoots as fast as a 240.  The H is the best suited for the CSAR/SPECWAR mission, the H does have a lot more legs it's a shame to see it go, keep 'em flying especialy the ones you got from 5.

Are you kidding?  Those aren't grenade boxes by the ICS box, they are 4 place cup holders.  The pilot's are in luck too, drinks in the map pocket and maps everywhere else.

I don't think that doing a 1/35 MH-60S would be all that hard.  The S is based on an L airframe.  As Gino mentioned, the biggest difference would be the head.  The fillet at the root end of the L blade would need to be cut off (all of the 60 blades are made without a square corner at the root end, the Army has that added), the spindles need rebuilding and some extra lines and wires need to be added.  As far as I know, the tail fold on the S is the same as the L so all you need to do in the back is make a folding stabilator.  There are some other minor changes like antennas, windows and mirrors that need to be made as well.  But this seems like a very doable project for someone with reasonable scratchbuilding skills.

for everyone who now has the kit and is wondering as I am, is the upper deck gloss black or dark grey? the color callouts on the kit dont seem to jive with the real photo.

 Form what I remember it was a gloss black.  HSC-2 changed colors on their "CAG" bird and it is now a very gross red whit and yellow and grey....not attractive trust me.  The other gloss Black and White scheme was sharp.  Hope this helps bro.  Happy New Year....I too have the kit and love the 1/144 Dragon H-60 series.  I wish they would do an HH-60H or an MH-53E....my current and former bird.  Let me know if I can help any further

Happy New Year! I have had a SUPER productive day:

Went to Lowes and Best Buy, IHOP and Starbucks

Scratchbuilt 1/700  director radar for USS Trathen 40MM Bofors gun mounts x2

Scratchuilt 1:1 wood reciever block and upper grip assembly (wood ) for Return of the Jedi Scout Trooper blaster pistol.  Had to stop for the gorilla glue to dry :-)

Cranked out most of the primary assembly on one of the Knighthawks, and finished up some parts on the other. One will be OOB, the other will recieve as much detail as I can get in there in the next two weeks.  The most difficult part so far has been the two-part HIRRS units but now that I have one under my belt I have a MUCH better understanding of how to crank out the other one in short order. Basically, lay one upper half on and work on the lower half, don't try to get them done ahead of time as a subassembly, it just doesnt work right.

I will post up some pics probably tomorrow to show what it looks like so far.

As promised, I manged to get them both in one pic. The interior on the right is detailed with strip stock and the left is OOB. I drilled out the windows on the kit that will be detailed and added cyclics from wire. I may make the roof H rack as well as add the brake handle that hangs down. I cut out the center row of seats and added some tiny crates. I'm not done detailing but I needed to knock off for the night.

So far the kit is a breeze. About as detailed as a 1/72 kit twice it's size.

  So I leave and you FINALLY do a helicopter!!  They look great, by the way.  I can't wait to see the finished product. I really like the one you detailed. Any chance of a closer pic of the details?

Yeah, well, I had that ONE abortion I was working on, the Bell HSL prototype. Never did overcome the fear of the bubble up front......  Maybe someday!

Ill getsome pics up as I finish it. Its gonna be a busy weekend again (as usual!)
