Thanks Chris and Tom.... I think you guys may be right..with it hinged it takes up more room in their fighting pos. But I don't think it matters any way, I think I will leave it off just for my purposes...I can't find any reference to the question at all, so, oh well, artistic licence to the rescue!!! Thanks again guys! More pics soonBig Smile [:D]

and even if they dont i dont think it would be wrong if u showed them that way. i mean if your in a hurry or even needed it to say (warm water or something) you'd do what ya had to...and it wouoldnt ruin your scene!! Big Smile [:D]

hmm... I can't answer that, but if it were me I'd err on the completely off, because even if it did hinge, I'd think they could completely remove it if they wished. Just .02

Nice firt dusting, lol 28 scale inches huh? Would'a been fun to see lol

I also like the idea of giving the Germans and their eqipment a light dusting, as if they froze before the latest snow fall, good sense of the time they've been there, adds a lot more to the dio Thumbs Up [tup]

Tom, I think it will need some more..the germans are frozen and may even have ice hanging from their noses...for more of the freezing effect...I feel that there is a base of snow and then another light snow on the germans and their equipment after death...to give the "already dead feeling"..The main reason I post this stuff is to get the 2 cents...I am always open to ideas...there is always good advice given....all input is valuble if I use it or not....thanks very much for yours!Big Smile [:D]

i wouldv'e liked to have seen the other 28 inches for a laugh too but whatever. Laugh [(-D] what ya got looks good. i think the idea is to have the germans frozen correct? are ya gonna make some miniature icecycles hanging from the trees or anything? i think the baking soda worked great...i might put more on (sorry dude) to give that holy &^$%^& its cold and snowing everywhere feel! that or the ice...but...i know how it is when u have an idea and everyone wants to add their two cents in then things change then gets confusing...Laugh [(-D] (no offense to anyone). but i think it looks great and i cant wait to see it finished!! Tom, OH YES..very nice snow..I have'nt even looked into buying any...unfamilar with any of it...I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to find...here is a few pics of how mine turned out once I dumped the other 28 scale inches off...wish I had taken pictures of that, it was worth a good laughLaugh [(-D] this was a test run...more will go on top of germans and their equipment. Thanks for sharing that fantastic Dio!Big Smile [:D]

not to laugh at your pain but...Laugh [(-D]. i understand how that is. i wish i had an alternative 4 u! only did one snow scene b4 and that was using that fake snow for model railroads! that was a looooong time ago. i know u want to use home stuff (i get that) but below is what it looked like in case u wondered. Tom, I'm trying to use stuff around the house for snow as opposed to buying It....Against all I have seen on the subject, i used Baking powder...Unfortunatly my work space has been relegated to my basement which is very dank! I layed down a thin coat of white glue and sifted the powder on it..It looked good...went to check on it the next day and it had swelled up to about three sizes larger...A major BLIZZARDLaugh [(-D] the messed up part was it looked real as hell...just a whole lot more depth and it didn't stick...just fell off when inverted....I do have other methods in mind thoughSmile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Panzerguy...Thanks for the feedback..I'm a little torn on the color of the faces...from personal experience I know it dos'nt take long for the skin to turn colors on the living..My philosophy is; If it is this cold, their skin, (most of all the tip of nose), would be black before death...then after being dead and frozen for any period of time there wouldnt be much color left...I may be way off on this..but I will be looking into it...Thanks again!Big Smile [:D]

SternO this is starting to come together. The fallen tree is well done.

The figs look really good that's a nice touch with the cloth draped over their heads. My only suggestion would be about their face's I think there to white. You may want to consider painting the faces in flesh tones and then dry brushing some white over that leaving some of the flesh exposed.

Thanks Jim! Reworking those rags a bit...I was not very happy with them..very pleased that there is a mood..I would hate to just stick a few figs on a base and call it a diorama ...Does my heart good for someone to get the feeling..Thanks agian!Big Smile [:D]

Thanks for the comments Chris! The head wraps are just painted masking tape and the "cuffs" are the same but I was going for more of a hands wraped in rags....Sigh [sigh] lol..figure these two were doing anything to stay warm...thanks again!Big Smile [:D]

I thought that's what those were on their hands--some sort of rags to try to keep warm and it was all they could find. To no avail, too. Definitely catching the mood of the diorama very well.

Hi Steve,

You've certainly captured the air of misery in the scene, both in the hopelessness on the German's faces and the bitterness of the weather.       The object is realism, and you're nailing it; great work! Thumbs Up [tup]

Take care,

Frank

The talk is very important to me as far as acuracy and detail goes, so talk away my friend...I wish I could be a little more constructive in my feedback to others...i tend to either only comment on the good things or play the bad down. (not that I see much bad) The only one I'll bash are my own!Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] It's kinda like music...i respect the effort in it all, but don't listen to all of it...keep it comming and don't hold back!Big Smile [:D]

Glad you enjoy my comments- but hey I’m all talk most of the time, you’re the one putting this together- and I definitely enjoy watching your WIPs, this is going to look real nice when you’re finished, I’m sure you’ll get those rag wrapped hands looking right. I think it’ll look even better with the upright gunner leaning on a support tree, but I do like how they’re presented because at a distance I can really picture the GIs thinking they were still alive.

no fault of yours Chris..they are not very convincing...Ill work on it. Thanks for the props on the positions...I was afraid of the flash freeze effect that would not be so realistic...the upright one will be kinda leaning back against a small tree...i think that will help..can always count on you for great feedback! Makes sense, I just couldn't make them out, I'm sure you'll pull it together- the head wraps look real cool, and I like the positions they froze in. Looks like the first one to go was the loader, gunner didn’t notice and he just stayed as him MG until he couldn’t last any longer, just got way too cold. Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]
