So I tryed to follow this guy in the helo GB, looked like you're going with a different bird over there, so are you updating this in this thread? Or you got some other thread in the helo forum?! Shock [:O] too many updates to follow!! Must model!!! Dead [xx(]

pics, pics, pics ... man! You little girls are killing me!!! HAHAH, j/k...

I wasn't going to post this one in the helo forum due to technicalities ... there are going to be 6 figs in this build, you know. I guess by industry standards that makes it a dio. I was just trying to get questions answered over there.

I'm in the process of redoing my building for this one. The one I did a bit back is just a little big for my taste .... I'll probably save it though for a future Blackhawk build. (I've got one sitting on the shelf that I was thinking of doing similar to one that Arkhunter has been tooling with ...)

that's fine. speaking of buildings...even though its too big, how's it going? the plaster working out 4 u? was it farily easy to scribe your bricks and such? what about that plastruct shingles...did ya get any of that or go with something else?

yeah, yeah ... good question!

For the building ... even though I think its too big for this one, it was DEFINATELY good practice. I found that using styrofoam was REALLY easy to build w/ and I'm not sure that I'll ever buy another resin building again. I simply measured everything out, marked it w/ a Sharpie and cut it up w/ my blade. Then, I used regular straight pins to piece it together to check fit and such and then glued it w/ Elmer's white glue. After drying, it was very sturdy. As far the plaster ... I did end up using wall spackle. I did find though that I had to start w/ a thin first layer IOT fill in the styrofoam "bubbles". I tried marking the bricks in this first layer, but found that it worked better in the second layer. I didn't get to the third layer yet, but it would be a no-brainer to add.

Defiantely thanks for your help on this one!! Cowboy [C):-)]Thumbs Up [tup]

hey no big deal about the help. was definately curious as to where you were with the building. and as far as 1, 2 or 3 layers of spackle...again all that matters is that it works. even if you end up using 4 layers. i also dont blame u for not wanting to "buy" another building...y bother when you can build your own to the shape, size and look that you want! i assure you i will use the styrofoam idea like you. nice thing is you can build walls, half sections, ruins, whatever. good job! No fair, you aren't doing a third building (or fourth for that matter)!?

Are you using cellofoam or is just the average styrofoam?   Anyways, good luck and can't wait to see more...

Camo - I do owe you guys some pics ... I promise I'll get them up soon.

Ark - I'm just using regular styrofoam here. I think I paid something like $3 for a sheet at Hobby Lobby that was like 2.5' x 4' .... I think.

O ... K ..., Here we go ....

***UPDATE***

Its kind of a small one, but keep in mind that I'm working on two other projects as well ...

Here I've added a little bit a scratch detail to the tail and tail rotor. The kit just lacked little detail that I wanted to add. These details were picked out from actual pictures I've collected. (Speaking of ... I've massed a good number of pics and it seems that each particular bird has differences in details from one to another. So, in my build, I'll be taking a few ... "liberties" in the build.)

I've detailed the main rotor a little by replacing some of the little cylinder rods w/ wire and such ... but unfortunatly, I don't have a pic of it ... yet. Boo .... I know.

So, we'll start in w/ the building ...

Here, you get the idea of how big the first building is/ was. I plan on making a 2nd building at least 1/2 the size ... probably smaller than that.

And some of the details that I'll be replicating on the 2nd building ...

And for a little bit of the paint job.... I used the suggested "aircraft interior black" (acrylic from MM) ... What a GREAT color! This is the PERFECT scale black for whatever. I plan on dumping all my flat black and buying this color from now on. HIGHLY recommend this one. This color has NOT been mixed with anything except thinner.

I've also got the canopy masked off with BMF and somewhat painted, but here it was w/o paint. It'll need a few more coats for the paint to cover the canopy's frame that was covered in Future.

Enjoy the update  .... and as always, C&C welcomed.

I'll be completing one of my builds in the morning, so I should be able to get back on track with this one .... Take care, and thanks for the patience.

Hey thanks guys. Sorry it wasn't much of an update, but like I said. After this morning, I'm hoping to have more time for it ...

Dang-it! I gotta stop w/ the side projects....

For the building, I was thinking of doing some preshading in the bricks, etc. Then giving it a coat of a sand color, and then maybe an off white(?). I'm not really sure what the finally color should be. Hmmm ...

I'm looking at redoing the building this afternoon. So .....

Avus - Yes, I used straight pins to hold the building while the glue dried. But I pulled them out after it was dry.

that's exactly what i would do scott. be sure to preshade your building itself as well. gives it a good look. the sand color is a great color as well (obviously since that's my build. color). if you use the sand color you can do what i did with a light gray wash over it or if you feel you want something else to "distinguish" it then whatever. not sure of the white unless that's the color you want to make the building. but definately some offwhite highlights on corners and such!

Hey! Only 4 days late on this one right? -looks great MC, I really like your building, and the colors on the bird are really spot on, I agree about the new "flat black"- I don't use any kind of flat black any more- just NATO black, gives it a good scale look.

Don't worry about the small updates or anything haha you shouldn't feel bad until you stop visiting the forums for days on end Whistling [:-^]

Avus - I just realized that you weren't talking about the pins in the building, but rather the pins in the bench seat frames! Sorry 'bout that! Yes, I put pins there as well .... thanks to your advice. The benches have corresponding holes that let them just slide on. I'm considering just attaching them that way, so that when/ if the dio is moved around, it can be "dismantled" for safety sake.

Since completing my Predator (posted in the AC forum) I've been working on my "Calm" build a little since I pretty much just shelved it, but I'm also working on this one as well. I'm waiting on  .... some figures and the Cobra Co. decals .... to arrive IOT move forward. Really, the only thing that I can work on right now would be to finish detailing the cockpit and rebuild the building. I'm finding this one to go a little slower since there are so many "little" stages to complete, check fit, fix, and check again .... wash, rinse, repeat.

Hopefully, I'll have some updates later on today or tomorrow to post.

I'm wanting to redo the building to make it smaller. I think that one I posted above is just too big. I think it'll end up taking away from the helo, which is supposed to be the focus.

Besides, I've got plenty of stryofoam left anyway .... couldn't hurt.

Can't wait to see it.  I wanted a smaller one, but now, I went back to wanting a larger one (after I made the smaller one....lol).  Haven't quite figured it all out yet with this one, but looking forward to seeing yours.  Are you doing only the roof or are you doing part of the side walls too?

It'll be along the same idea as the first building ... only showing the roof w/ a little bit of the walls and windows ... just smaller.

Another thing.  Since we are both doing helo dioramas which involve the blades turning, are you going for that blurred effect?  I'm not going to try it, however I am going to have the blades "cone up" as the blackhawk hovers...

WELL DAMN!!! Wouldn't you know that since I've been making nice headway into my "Calm" dio that the figures and the Cobra decals I was waiting for BOTH showed up today!!!! FIGGIN' CHRISTMAS IN JULY!!!!!!!!!! Wooo Hoooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, I calm now ..... WOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hehe.

Ark, to answer your question .... no, I'm not going for thr blur. I think that helo rotors are WAY too big for that. I did it on my recently finished 1/72 Preadator (check it out in the AC Forum). The prop was only about 1" in dia and I think I was pushing it. Having this one being about 8-9" ... I just don't think I could get away w/ it. I too have flared the blades a bit, but I think that you, building a BH, will be able to get away with a little more flaring than me. I think that will definately give it the feel that you're looking for. IMO, it'll be something that'll be over looked at first, but if it wasn't there, people would pick it out from the get-go.

I'm considering, to give mine a little more "action", having one of the bench-seaters in the mist of leaping off. Possibloy have his butt off the bench w/ the whole figure supported by just the hand/ arm ... but we'll see.

hey scott, i know these dont have anything to do with your dio...but they are some cool pics none the less. there are a couple that would make cool dio's (that i may just have to build!!).

i think im gonna do the one with the guys on the rocks with the .50 cal. i wanted to do one with it and since im not using it in my current dio...this will make a nice one!
