Added front bumper light and tried working on a couple of figures...Still wondering why I chose 1/48?? ???

Had to cut a few apart and mix and match to get close to the right pose...

I decided to use the guy sitting in the front of the jeep in my posted pic from earlier.  Thought I could give him a camera, like he took the shot of the picture I am trying to recreate...

Added small case...

Started painting, this is were I realize how small they really are.  :P

In looking at the picture (jeep pic) The man sitting has sun glasses. Not completely happy, but they will have to do...

Still a little touch up...

Basic "plot"...

As you can see, my Grandfather here looks more like the Joker from Batman.  I need to fix something with the head....also, still working on ground cover, a ways to go.  This will take a while! :P

Cheers!

Regards,

T

A little update

Fixed his hair...

If you look at the last couple of pics, you can see my matte finish mishap.  In an effort to not pull out the airbrush, I went for the can. Crying   After test firing, I went to spray and got a nice peppering of white dots. still cleaning and touching up. Stick out tongue  Live-N-Learn!

Cheers!

Great project and you evidance great skill.

Any more information regarding the details of the situation?  Where is it located?  Date?  What was your grandfather's unit and assignment?  What was his rank?  What was he doing when he posed with the wreck?

Reference the Luftwaffe visor hat -- the round swastika badge is a Nazi Party badge.  It wouldn't be worn on a service cap like that.  A Luftwaffe pattern eagle clutching a swastika would be in that position.

Please keep us updated.

Thank you guys!  The kind words are helpful!

MAJMike,  His Unit assignment I was able to kind of figure out:

Official unit designation
HQ 9th Army - Special Troops
55th AAA Brigade HQ/HQ Battalion
26th AA Group HQ/HQ Battalion
571st AAA Gun Bn (Sp) (L/Btry A)

Not sure if they were part of an MP unit or one just attached.  After some help with the Jeep questions, I was tol that the light on the front left bumper was mostly common on MP Jeeps at the time.  I am not completely sure what his rank was at the end of his tour, I think I was assuming private from his graduation photo from AAA School.  I cannot say for certain where the pic was taken.  Most were in France that I have, but I NEED to get in touch with my Aunt, she has a box of pics I have not gone through.

Thanks for the Hat info!  I was thinking that pin was out of place.  It was one of many "things" he brought back with him.  I have a sword and a dagger as well, along with "trench art".  One of the guys in his unit made a sort of small wand-like object from A 50cal., pins and tack nails.  I will try to dig it out and shoot a picture of it.  Interesting to say the least.

As for updates, I am trying to sit down this week and work some more on this project.  Like everybody, too much stuff on the workbench....

Thanks again!

Regards,

T

This is a great idea, and you are doing is, to me, remarkable work, especially in 1:48 scale.  I would have trouble doing anywhere as good as you in ANY scale.  Please continue with this.  Thanks.

Thank you fificat!  Ohh, I am continuing.  It's on the bench.  Still working of the grasses and such.  Been consumed by a couple of other projects 2 of which have a deadline.  But hope to make some more progress real soon.

Thanks for stopping by!

Regards,

T
