Your diorama looks better with the improvements that you made. The look of the wall could be improved with a dusting of pastel, chalk or weathering powders to vary the colors of the stones a little more and highlight the mortar.

I glue my dioramas to a piece of MDF. It gives them more support since I move them around a lot.

Really nice, in the first string of pix the one looking down the tube it looks like the hole in the muzzle brake didn't quite match, not a deal breaker by any strech just a helpful observation, maybe my eyes are crossed  the weathering on the gun is awesome. Ground work is tough to do if your just starting but you have a handle on it. Great work!

Only thing I'd bring up now is the 'feet' or whatever you call them on the legs of the gun were dug in so when it fired it wouldn't jump back and slam into the guys. You might want to just chip away a little of the groundwork there and shove the ends of the legs into it and then build up a little groundwork behind it.

Just nitpicking though- very nice work! I'm glad I don't have photos of my first diorama- you guys would laugh me right off this forum!

they would be the gun trails. you can gouge out a bit to set them in the ground or add a little modeling clay to build up a smal moung and cover it with your brown ground turf. painting the styrofoam edge helped a lot too.

Thanks all. Pawel you are right they are called trails. I was in an arty unit back in the day. 105's. I will work on them and get them dug in. It was late in the night when I got done and just forgot to do that.

Those are called trails. Our redleg brothers would have to verify it, but I guess a few sandbags also could help secure the spades in place. That's an important detail. It would also be a good idea to put some dirt on the boots of the soldiers - to show they've been there done that for a while. Good luck with your dio and have a nice day

having just airbrush painted my first base a misting of a dust or light brown color would  really tone everything down. i like the shrubs, i like the reedy grass but together isn't working for me. nor is the poster. i like the top side and the wall though i don't know if an AP or HE round would leave a mark like that in a stone wall. looks more like an armor hit and a nice one at that.

interestingly the last pic looking down at the front brings it all together. the shrubs running down the hill from the point on the wall and the stones really work in that view.

 Okay here goes. I hope this is an improvement.

Concur with the bushes comments. I might experiment with some green inks, and mix some black inks to try and tone them down a bit. Experiment with some foliage that ISN"T on the diorama first. I might use some dark weathering powder around the battle damage holes to tone it out.

I really would like to thank all of you for the comment. I will put to use what you are telling me. Yes the dio is not finished and I know I need a base which will come later. I had just got the rocks put on the dio when I took the photos and did not even think about putting the gun on it. The scale is 1/35.

After looking at the dio I can see what you are saying about the rocks looking like they have just been laid and will pit more grass and dirt over them. The poster was just to give some break up of the wall. The scene I was thinking of was a courtyard just inside of town. Maybe I did not capture that and that is my fault.

The base looks good at the first glance. But it also has things that I would do differently. First thing - the edges. Bare styrofoam doesn't look good, so it's a good idea to start with some kind of a frame (photo frames look good and are cheap), and then frame the styrofoam and dress up the portions that rise higher. You have lots of choices here - balsa, plywood, veneer, styrene plate - anything but bare styrofoam. So that's one thing and it would have to be done at the beginning of the build. At this stage it's getting much more difficult. Second thing - paint the groundwork before applying the grass. Colours ranging from dark green to black are OK. You could even take acrylic paint of dark colour as the glue for the grass, that works fine, too. What we have now is the white base shining through - not very realistic.

There's also something about those stones on the slope that bothers me - maybe there are to many of them, or maybe they look too "freshly laid down" - I guess it would help to either have fewer of them, or to cover some of them with grass to show they have been laying there for some time. I also don't understand the idea of the poster - it probably would be better to place it on a pole with a few planks attached or something like that. If you plan to show some activity on your dio, I thin you should also show the vegetaqtion worn down a little through walking, driving etc.

It looks good but as has been said what's it for?

Honestly I like the look of it!  I might thin out some of the small rocks. The grassy area looks perfect as-is.  Some guys use thin balsa sheets and paint them, then cover the edges to hide the foam.  Oh and the stone works look good too!  I like the damage as well!  Look forward to seeing what you are going to put on it.

What scale is it? What are you planning to do with it? It looks good to me...but without knowing what your plans are its hard to comment.

The only evidence I have is that it's somewhere in Europe set in WWII because of the poster? The poster seems out of place there though. It breaks up the continuity but I'm thinking, why would a poster be on a wall behind the bushes in the country?

Other than that it looks pretty good, but again, if you want to get more some critiques and ways to help make it better, let us know what your planning to do with it, even if the figures or vehicles arent finished. Either way, I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with this one!
