I gotta say, I'm actually pretty happy to see someone built these up. I've been debating picking them up. The quality, especially in those civilians, looks fantastic, especially considering its styrene, and not resin.

I really like the nex Master Box sets. They keep coming out with ones that are tailor made for vignettes like this or some mixing and adding with vehicles. My figures work is not near this level of competence, so all I can say is nice job! A very nice OOB work here to me.

That's a German Shepherd Dog, not a Dobie. Check the ruff around the collar.

Shepherds also have dark eyes. I dont see why people are joking and commenting about missing eyes. Maybe just a dot of gloss on each one would work, other than that heres a pic of my doog.

Notice the surprised look, critiques welcome.

The painting of the dog looks closer to that of a Belgian Shepard, especially the Tervuren type.

Mad mike is Sheba a Border Collie?

Tervuren

I know that they are used for detector dogs. Someone had told me that this breed was used by the Germans as a patrol dogs during WWII alongside the Alsatian (German Shepard).

Our beloved loopy mutt is a German shepherd, kelpie and blue heeler cross and she is simply the best dog temperament wise. She is 10 years old now and going a bit creaky in the back legs, but still can chase a ball/squeaky toy with great gusto.

cheers

My SO loves Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and has often mentioned getting one once Sheba goes to the big kennel in the sky.. Lovely little dogs. I bet those two keep you busy?

Back on topic for the dio...I've looked at this several times and realize what's wrong...the check point looks like it's in the middle of the town square. No reason for anyone to walk through the gate when they could walk or drive right around it. Minimally, there should be groundwork defining a road and a choke point in that road to force travellers to stop. It would be like putting a sobriety check point in the middle of a parking lot and expecting people to drive over to it to go under the gate. The hedgehog is also off to the side of the center of the gate so anyone running the gate (Why, I can't imagine when it's so easy to drive around it) wouud not be hampered by the obstacle unless the two guards antoicipate the runner and drag it to the middle of the gate and the driver still insists on going through instead of around the gate.

Remember, if the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.

Or maybe they know that if they walk around they will be "eliminated"?

And, as far as dogs maybe y'all could start photoshopping what they are thinking.  You could do an entire new web set!  Wait it's already been done...never mind.

But really haven't any of you heard that at 1/35 you wouldn't see "eyes".  I for one never let the issue get confused by the facts (I.E. I paint eyes)

Yeah, I agree--I've heard of that thing about not painting eyes in 1/35 but I disagree with it. AI's doog in the scene really looks lifeless. A, off-white background mostly filled in with a big black/brown orb, and a shot of gloss would really give that dog some mojo! Big Smile [:D]

Doog - actually these too have curtailed my modelling alot. They rather I watch TV so they keep me pinned down and smothered with kisses. Lana has a strange habit of climbing to the back of the chair and sleeping at the back of my neck. She acts like my living pillow! And yes they will attack model parts! Mike, I could only be so lucky as to be so distracted as by two beautiful little munchkins like those two! They are soooo cute! Unfortunately, with my traveling I don't really have the time to keep a doog here at my apartment--but I'm so glad for Jenn's two doogs at her place!

I know what you mean about the "living pillow" thing! I had an old girlfriend from Holland whose Maltese/terrier mix-doog "Dexter' used to do that in the car while she was driving, if you can believe that! It was hilarious! You just could NOT keep him in the back seat! He'd squirm around the window-side of the seat and wiggle himself into place behind her neck--staring right at me in the passenger seat! I miss HIM a lot!

No negative vibes or offence intended...but why not start a new thread about your pets as opposed to you guys "doog pooping" on this one?

Just curious as to why Model Manics threads are open season on hi-jacking.

Or anyone else's for that matter.

Sad, what's sad? Depressing? Disrespectful? MM isn't sad apparently. Maybe lighten up. The minute he/she/it weighs in, and is sad, I'll listen.

I thought this was a lot of fun.

Really? ...have you asked him? I've seen the lack of respect shown to MM and this is just another example of it. He may be wrong on occasion...and you may not like the fact that he buys his models already built. But that is no reason to be disrespectful towards him and hi-jack his thread with pet pics. And you think that it is fun. I guess there trully is safety in numbers.

Why not start a thread and post your pics of your pets there...wouldn't be as much fun as showing disrespect to MM now would it?

Hey 9 and Dwight;

Although I  am not entirely responsible for originally diverting the thread in this direction, I am willing to admit that I've had a lot of fun with it. And I have to admit as well that after a few "doog posts"--which were originally done for reference's sake--I seriously thought about posting a "Show us yer doog" thread--until after a few additional, harmless posts I realized how unnecessarily redundant that would be.

In all sincerity, I have been considering the relevance of the pictures of doogs and their "eyes" as having constituted a body of collective reference, the better as to establish that not only ONE picture did constitute or present an "average" and correct reference for which to illustrate MY original contention that the doog's eyes in MM's dio lacked both life and/or realism. I realize this has NOT of course, been the tenor of how these photos were presented in context, but after the original commentary about the dio was/has been posted, I do not feel that we are unduly "disrespecting" MM or AI.

I think it's safe to say that everyone here knows the tone of what has been the less-than-cordial remarks and divergent tangents that have previously appeared in MM's posts, and I sincerely do NOT feel as if we have even come close to THAT! But you are entitled to your opinions.

I have to state that if this thread immediately went off-topic, or if no relevant comments had been posted, perhaps I would agree with you. But there are PLENTY of times when topics stray off-topic, and no one calls them out as "dispespectful"--check some other posts and I think you'll see that truth. This thread's focus on pets and "doogs" just happened to have struck a chord with some of the members here. If MM chimes in and says that he feels insulted or that the posts were somehow disrespectful, I PROMISE that I will be the FIRST to apologize!

I think that perhaps you two may be a little more sensitive to MM because of the admitted impoliteness in some of his previous threads? But please, guys; lighten up! While I will not speak for others, it is NOT MY intention to insult MM or AI by walking this divergent thread which I still contend does indeed have relevance--in form, if not in method of presentation!

Hey Model Maniac- I've seen what a pounding you've taken over time for your dioramas, fair or unfair. The FSM community went seriously off topic about a dog that was in your checkpoint diorama. In my opinion a good one. The subject was whether or not the dogs eyes were painted correctly. For reasons that I cannot explain, the thread was "hijacked", to become a study of the faces of our dogs.

I'd propose several questions, based on opinions, and invite response.

1. Great diorama: the only question is how to paint a dog's eye. We look forward to your response, and gave you a bunch of great examples.

2. It's a doogs life, we want to be friends, I think, Domini Canus: the dog is king.

3. This is a pleasant thread: please respond.

Bill

Maybe I am oversensitive...or maybe I am not.

But if we try to analyze it, this thread has 4 pages. 1 page about the diorama with (as I have said) valid comments, and 3 pages of dog pictures with side comments directed to MM.

75% of the content of a thread has already deviated from its original theme that's why I commented (in my original words) that the thread has been "driven off course". It was an opinion that I raised based on my own perceptions. An opinion which (I clearly see) is not shared by many but I can live with thatSmile [:)]. I just felt the need to voice my opinion.

And I don't think I asked for apologies from anybody. I clearly don't see myself as someone with authority to regulate the forum or someone in the position to say what is right or wrong for the forum. We have the MODS for that.

All I am trying do is post my opinions in a manner (which to the best of my own understanding) does not violate any forum rules and does not tarnish the friendly image of this site.

You guys are right, this thread has most certainly grown a new limb.

Not to speak for anyone else, but MM's posts remind me of a band flyer. He staples an announcement to a telephone pole, and then walks away. And no amount of graffitti that lands on that flyer- on topic or off, will change the status of the gig.

For better or worse, I believe his threads end up more of a discussion for those who check in on a daily, or even hourly, basis. Sorry, Model Maniac, no disrespect intended with the divulgence, to be sure. Sometimes your threads result in heated debate, but I feel that this one brought some of us closer together. That can't be too bad?? Just my My 2 cents [2c]

However, I conceed- this is all Sign - Off Topic!! [#offtopic], and I will limit my posting with regard to relevance.

Have you never been in a ral life discussion? You start tal;kling about one thing and segue into another area spawned by a cammonet. A few moments later on, the conversation shifts off down  another side road. Maybe, it eventually returns to the original subject. Maybe not. In the end, the participants have gotten to know each other better. And that, dear reader, is a very good thing.

You are correct but in this case, a sensible poster should have easily recognized when the discussion has been diverted too far away from its original topic. It is my understanding that the very reason why the topics in this forum has been categorised into fora and sub-fora is to give focus to the discussions and to group the topics into specific areas of interest. It is by keeping discussions in focus and within the boundaries of its specific category that we keep the forum as a whole in order. And that, I believe is a good thing.

Dwight - I might have been the one that started the divegence by posting the picture of the Belgian Shepard. There were comments about the dog's markings and to give MM his due, I thought I would post a picture of that breed which resembles his finished product. This was also a breed of dog that was quite possibly used in this context by the German forces. Not all their dogs were Alsatians and Dobermans.

We did go a little off topic with our personal dog pictures, but I don't think any disrespect to MM was intended. A lot of us dog owners have our "boast" pictures of our pets and tend to show them off like grandmothers with their grand kid pictures. These forums tend to be as much social as informative. Maybe we shouldstart getting back to the subject at hand.

IYAAYAS - Look at the pictures of the build. There were questions concerning the dog depicted there. First there were comments about the eyes, then the color pattern of its coat. One called it a Doberman until the fringe was pointed out. The Belgian Shepard seems to me to fits the bill, as it has a similar shaped coat to the Alsatian but some unique color patterns. And yes, the German forces utilized this breed in WWII as do modern law enforcement units as a patrol and detector dog. I remember the San Francisco Airport Police had a bomb detector dog from this breed. Its not as commonly seen as the Alsatian (German Shepard). It is also a littel smaller than the Alsatian.

OK, I bit, I followed your link.  I'm not exactly certain what you were trying to illustrate, but I do have a comment/question.  So why do you think it is that MM participates so readily in that forum but not in this one.  A consistent criticism levelled against him is his tendency to post a dio and then drop out of sight, in a figurative sense, and not respond to comments and questions.  Is it possible that if he had participated here more, people might be more receptive to him?  I for one was impressed with how he provided the technique for applying paint chips.  I have never seen him (or perhaps I should say rarely have I seen him) provided similar information here.  I think that partly that might lead to his threads getting hi-jacked...

I definitely agree--although I'm not gonna say that just to justify the meandering, wayward direction of this post--but I too checked out that link provided by Buddho. MM posted on April 2 with the pics originally, and then on April 8 with a reply,(albeit a very short one) and then not again til November 2! Quite a long time in which to let weeds grow.

Ok, so maybe that "justify" anything. I concede that. But it can help to explain why, perhaps, this thread went off-topic (if indeed, the relevancy of the dogs in the first place WAS truly that unforgivably "off-topic"?)--and stayed off-topic--for so long. If I facilitated it, I will take the rap, and the responsibility. "Doogs" are just so near to my heart, that perhaps it was irresistible. Fire away. I can take it.

In any case, it would seem that the post has reached it's conclusion. It will be interesting to see how MM responds.

One thing that I can't help but noticing is how the posts in some of MM's posts somehow always seem to invite and/or cause dissension amongst the members here. That is sad. I wonder if anyone will really feel "safe" in delivering serious criticism of AI's work...?

I guess what "thumper" said is right after all--"If you can't say something nice, don't say nuthin' at all!"  Then again...isn't/wasn't the idea of criticism and improvement the whole philosophical ideal and goal of the forums anyway?! Confused [%-)]

Hey Doog,

That is a  really relavent point - about the HUGE gap between MM's responses.  I didn't even pay attention to that when I followed the link.  But I think it says something: he is either too busy to check in regularly (other than when he is posting his work) or he doesn't care enough about others comments to see what is being said after he posts something.  Either way, it says to me that there ain't no big crime in hijackin' the thread, particularly since he don' participate in it.  This whole doog conversation (and photo swap) seems to be in good fun, everyone who participated seemed to enjoy themselves, and there was nothing overtly or covertly insulting to MM.  So I say, no harm no foul, run with it...

As far as your 'new tangent', well, I for one agree with you that this is the place for criticism, in an effort to help people improve.  As has been said before, don't post here expecting no one ot comment.  Life is tough.  Wear a cup... My 2 cents [2c]

Oh my Goodness! you have turned my checkpoint thread into a Dog Show. But that's fine, I'll just follow suit!
I don't think anyone has offended me, this dio has a dog and the doog just asked for eyes. I love dogs too. Here're the pictures of my dogs - Bank, Big and Brown respectively. Many Thais including myself name their dogs with Western names, perhaps to show our respect to them (Westerner or dogs depending on your interpretation). ;-)

Bank and Big came at the same time about 10 years ago, but from different sources. Bank was given by my sister's friend at the bank, hence its name Bank. Big was given by next door neighbor and it looked bigger so it was named Big. Brown was given by my brother's colleague about 4-5 years ago and it was named after its hair color. I sometimes call him 'Mr. Brown'. All the dogs are male.

Bank is the fiercest dog in the house so he has to stay in his cage during daytime (7AM-5PM). His favorite pastime is sun-bathing (as seen here). He's seen me taking thousands of pictures of models and dioramas, but never once was taken picture himself. So he looks suspicious and a little frightened when I told hime to look at the camera. His special ability : howling with gladness.

Big is a nice dog who's never biten anyone all his life (except fellow dogs) so he needs no cage and can go out of the house. Many nights he prefered to stay outside the house, for natural reasons. He looks much older than Bank even though they're of the same age. His special ability: raise front leg when told to.

Brown is also a nice dog who's always friendly to visitors, a real guest-entertaining dog. He's the biggest and greediest dog I've ever seen, he eats very very fast. His favorite things are food, water and rain. His favorite job is to chase and hunt the rats in the bushes around the around and he's killed several. His special ability: fetch tennis ball thrown away in front of him. All my dogs followed my order and looked into the camera, they're good dogs.

Thanks for all your comments and contributions! With 87 responses, you've made this thread the most popular thread I've ever posted! I'm getting famous... ;-)

Well...you're right Grizz it has turned in a funny direction. I still don't understand the piling on that his posts seem to illicit...or the negative remarks directed at MM because of whether he chooses to participate in the threads he starts. But he seems not to mind so my humble apologies to all.

Here's my buddy Auggie. My wife Joanne found him laying in a median strip on a major road near here after being hit by a car. She took him to the vet and we posted notices all over looking for his owner. To no avail. That was 3 years ago and he's a huge part of our family now.

Best Regards Joe

We do have a steer that is going to the "Prosessor" soon.  It's all grass fed beef.  We also have chickens for eggs and meat.  No antibiotics or hormones.

Dang it now I'm highjacking.  Ok I'll stop or post in the general discussion forum.

I'm really enjoying this thread!

9 Toe, that's a great story about Auggie, she looks like a sweet doog.

To continue the off-road drive, here's a pic of my doog, Deacon.  I got him when he was a puppy, from a girl whose husband was going to take him out and kill him, b/c they couldn't take care of a newborn baby and a doog.  Sigh [sigh]   The first night I took him home, he slept in the crook of my neck, and he's been there ever since!

stikpusher, sure, it's the same species. Your dog is two years old, may be too old to train now (or not?)
But fetching things should be in his DNA, hence his species name "golden retriever". You may try again now. ;-)

Bank seems to be the herd leader in the house, he often treatens Brown. Yesterday evening Brown went
missing, I looked around the house and called for him but he didn't show up. I was puzzled because all
the gates were closed, he couldn't go out anywhere. It was Bank's threatening sound that revealed where
Brown was. He was in the narrow passage between the kitchen and the side wall of my house, hunting
for rats. I've never seen him there befor, there is no entry at the front side.

That's a real touching story!  I wonder how did the original owner got the dog at first. Anyway, Deacon
is now in the best place he can find. My dogs are not that lucky. They're not allowed into the inner house,
not to mention my bed.

OK I'll pile on.

My avator is one of my two pountmutts. We've had dogs since we were married. In fact my wife's dog had to give me the sniff approval before we dated seriouly.

This is the oldest one, she has never played with toys but lately I've seen her doing this. I don't know why, maybe to make the hyper one jealous
