Hey, scalepinoy! You have Philippine Airforce decals?!? I was contemplating ditching WWII Aircraft for a while to build a PAF Saber, but decals and colors were getting in the way... where do you get your references and decals?!? I'd like to see that! do you have models with PAF markings you can post pics of?

Shrikes,

Yes it is. I also have an A model T-28. The Webmaster is currently updating the site. It will soon showcase a contest recently held that featured 26 PAF/PAAC models. Some of the decals used are prototypes being developed by the members.

My god. That's Incredible, man! And it's a restoration piece too... Fantastic model! I love the way white/gray aircraft get all interestingly grimey along the panel lines (like your HH-60F). I acctually saw a "tora-tora" as a kid during one of the coups diving from the sky and strafing Camp Aguinaldo... then again, it may just be a false memory... Big Smile [:D]

Hey, scalepinoy! How about them decals, eh?

That's great news scalepinoy! Does this sheet include the 'PHIL. AIR FORCE/ HUKBONG PANGHIMPAPAWID NG PILIPINAS' texts? I'm sure all of us who model PAF aircrafts will welcome this.

Thanks, Shrikes. That T-28 was a bit of a pain... I also have a PAF Huey, T-28A, F-5B, F-8H, L-5, F-86D, and T-34A, all 72nd, in my collection. Ill try posting them here one of these days. Im currently working on a conversion of the resin SF-260. Im turning it into a turbo variant.

Guys,

The site has been updated. Please click on the link above and see the full story of the Bert Anido Cup. In it theres a gallery full of PAF models. Smile [:)]

Shrikes,

Thanks! That Huey actually took me about 7 months to build. I was able to take a ride on the real thing (serial #30322) with friends, and was inspired to build one as best as I could. I had a lot of help from a colleague who printed the markings on clear decal sheets.

The guys at the club are currenlty working on decal sheets for specific PAF planes, like the F-86, P-51, OV-10, T-28 and F-5, among others. They got help from a retired PAF general who helped standardize the winged diamond insignia. They came out with a few prototypes and plan to have them mass-produced in the near future. Ill keep you posted.

Btw, have you seen a copy of "Pictorial History of the Philippine Air Force?" Man, Im telling you, it has photos of everything the PAF had until 1997, even the serial number listings. Cool [8D]

Speaking of hueys, i was at the Airport up in Ilocos norte the other month, and as we were taxing to the disembarkation point, we saw a white/yellow Huey practicing approaches and landing... seemed like a new guy at the controls because on one attempt, he almost planted the thing in the runway tail rotor first!

You know, i sometimes get depressed that the PAF has such a limited range of planes (and ergo, modeling subjects). there was a rumor going around before that the last F-8 was retired because they found termites in the airframe! oi... that's why i want to do a Sabre, the days when we had top of the line aircraft... that and i met a man who piloted Sabres for the PAF too (the pilot of our plane to ilocos). he said it was just incredible. the moment you looked where you wanted to go, the plane was there. Wow!! [wow]

Keep me posted on those decals, okay? Big Smile [:D]

Oh, and do you remember that old joke: how the Philippines can take over the world - we lauch massive, full-scale airstrike on world... they die laughing, and we take over. Sigh [sigh] wouldn't it have been awesome if we got some of those fulcrums from russia?

Hahaha! Thats the first time I heard that. I just might be the first victim.Big Smile [:D]

The Fulcrums are nice, but I hear they have a poor engine TBO (time between overhauls) record. Which means that the PAF may yet again have been stuck with grounded airframes. But I culd just imagine the possibilities --- modeling-wise.

Tell you what, tell me what model Sabre you want to build and what scale, I'll see if there are development prints I could swipe for you. Remember lang that since its still in development, it may be more tedious to apply than off-the-shelf decals.

That's a really old joke... Come to think of it, we may loose most of our populace if an attack like that really took place Tongue [:P]

That would be great!! Are you sure you can do that with out ticking off the IPMS guys? Blush [:I] as long as it'll stick to the model, i'm okay with that. Well, i was hoping to do an F-86F in 1/48 ( all the possible detail on 1/32 really scares me!)... i figure with 1/48, i can scrounge up some aftermarket parts to detal the cockpit and instrument panel with... I haven't really done the research on the kit brand and scale, though... any suggestions? I was also wanting to try and depict the plane my friend flew, at least his unit, but i'll be happy with any markings, as long as they're PAF... He said it was model building that got him onto the airforce in the first place, so i wouldn't be surprised to find out that he's a member of IPMS Phils (though, his name eludes me at the moment).

I was also doing some research and this came up on google http://www.lindenhillimports.com/hi-decal.htm (scroll towards the bottom)
maybe you know someone who's interested in doing the F-86D (i didn't know we had 'em!)... Big Smile [:D]

Also, what do you use for a clear coat that's not future floor polish? they say you need to coat your model before you wash it down...

Shrikes,

Okay, I made arrangements. The guys were just too happy to know youre interested in the PAF. The club really wants to promote interest in the hobby in general and the PAF in particular. So another PAF fan is most welcome.

If you will please visit our site and drop Tony F (one of the designers) a line, he'll be more than pleased to make arrangements on how you can claim your set. If you cant reach him, please dont hesitate to e-mail me.

Yes, we had the F-86Ds. But only about 20 or so (I have the full list of the serial numbersBig Smile [:D]). There were I think at least 2 F-86D entries in the Bert Anido Cup recently held. Maybe the builders can help you out on your quest for details.

You, know, theres a slim chance that ex-PAF pilot youre referring to is known to me or one of my colleagues...

Great! I've really wanted to do a PAF plane since i started modeling, but no one makes kits boxed with PAF decals... (makes sense, though, i mean, we don't have that much of a selection to take models from) Not really Interested in the F-86D though... it doesn't look quite right to me, and the six .50 Cal.s remind you of WWII and the P-51.

I'm excited about it because when i get arround to it, this kit will be the first i'll do with aftermarket parts. I'm hoping to get a really good resin cockpit setup going (know of any F-48F cockpits lying around somewhere?). Although, before i even think about attempting this kit, i need to work on my skills with bare metal foil first. (nkm1416 told me you can get some at JMN's hobby store at harrisons plaza) I need to practice with the B-17G waiting on my shelf. lots of firsts for me with this kit... I really hope it turns out ok!

My pilot friend's (actually more of aquaintance. I've flown with him twice and both trips we've been chatting away about planes and models, both on the ground and while he was flying!) name is Ambrosio (Spelling?) "Ambong" de Leon. Do you know him?

Among De Leon? Afraid not. I thought you were referring to someone else. Btw, Im only 33, and I know a few PAF pilots from the glory days because of the hobby, not because we were friends before. Hahaha!

I'll let you know if I find F-48F (or its it F-84) cockpit tubs lying around. Good luck on your projects. Hope to see them soon. Tell me if you got your F-86F markings.

Oh, and if youre ever in JMN's again, please say hi to Natalie for me.

Hey, allan! It was good to finally meet you! (for everyone else, i gate crashed the IPMS meeting earlier today) I'm sorry for not saying goodbye properly, but my sister was going bonkers in the car! I told my friend (redknight38) about what i saw and we're both interested in crashing your next contest to see the great entries (if that's okay)! Tongue [:P]

How did the contest turn out? I really hope that dragonfly wins for it's category (it was just done so well)...

Oh, and Tony gave me those F-86 PAF decals and they're fantastic! a bit more work, but worth it, i suspect! I've now bumped up the F-86 on my list and i'm hurridly trying to get the PBY off my table as quick as possible! Big Smile [:D]

Yes, that A-37 you saw took first place in the 1/72 Out-of-the-Box. In the next few days photos of it will be posted on the site. Please check it out http:www.ipms-phils.50megs.com.

Cant wait to see pics of your finished F-86. Goodluck! Smile [:)]
