wow the front gap looks like the grand canyon!! is this what i have to look forward to? If I may say it looks like you could open up the seams under neath and spread the plastic out with a wedge to bring it out a little more ,match up the edges on the sides and fill the bottom.......whattya think?

Doing that would mean a tear up to the nose gear bay.  Nose section seams are down the middle and the center section is on the sides.  It seams (no pun intended) the center section is just too large.  When I bonded the center to the nose, I had to use a clamp to get the sides to fit, otherwise, the entire seam would have been like the picture.  She's a putty monster, just like my SR-71.....

I got the center section closed up today, and attached the nose and tail sections.  OH MY GOD.  This thing is a monster.

The gap at the nose section sucks.  It's going to take a lot of work to get this right.

Tail gap is not bad

Nose section is closed up.  I added about 1.8 oz of lead to the nose so she'll sit on the gear.  I hope this is enough.

Very nice detail! I would think that the main body is going to have gaps and fit problem's just like with all other Giant Bird kits?

Looking good Rob.

One question: Why are the wings painted already in that one photo with the paper clips on the ends?

Was that just a primer to see if there were flaws?

Thanks.

Ya.  I had to fill the seam on the bottom and the top had a huge sink, so I primed and blocked them.  Need to do it again before final paint.

Nice work on the seats. Can I recommend something? On the left side of the bang seat is an oxygen tank (right behind the armrest). The color is green. Paint that bad boy up!

You've really made some darn good progress on this one, I always get giddy when I see emails from this thread. I'm always hoping for more photos!

Thanks for the info.  I'm all over it.  I totaly ignored that part of the instructions.  PLUS I FORGOT THE SEAT BELTS......I guess they're not complete.  Back to work.

Cheers

Just curious.. Does your kit have the smoke-tinted canopy?  Unless you plan on vac-forming a clear one, it seems a shame to hide what's already hard enough to see in that 'pit...

Looks great so far!! I'd really like to do a B-1B. They even carry the Sniper Pod now for JDAMs and GBUs.

Rob,

Is that instrument panel PE or did you to the detail? Whatever way it looks great!

Thanks

It is Eduards PE Set.  I painted the base panel flat gray, then detailed the instruments with sharpies and paint.

MKelley

I have one in the stash and just have not taken the time to build it. The kit was first made long before JDAMs were around. most likely that is the reason for the weapon choice. Look like you are off to a great start, looking forward to the finish.

Thanks....That makes a lot of sense.

Fly-n-hi

Where are you going to put it when you're finished with it?

I have a display table where my B-24, SR-71 and B-58 reside.

troublemaker66

Hey Rob!  I have one in the ole stash ( just like everyone else..lol) and have to make some room before I start construction. I have a dumb question...is that PE in the bomb bay or just a sharp looking paint job? I bid on a few PE sets for this kit on Ebay but lost `em..went off while I was at work! Anyways, looks good so far. I`ll be watching ya.    Len

There is some Eduard PE in the wheel wells and a little bit in the bomb bays, but most is paint and weathering.  I purchased the PE from Squadron 3 weeks ago.

Thanks for all the other compliments.  I'll keep posting updates.  the cockpits should be completed tomorrow, them I'll be able to close up the nose section.

Cheers
