1/24 FW-190 WIP- THE MUMMY

Wnut -Thanks but don't worry about comments on the kit or my work, I appreciate the input. I primed all the parts in the pics from yesterday so I'm gonna take some time for another kit. Be back soon...

Cool, sounds like you got a handle on this kit.  I'll be quiet now  I agree with TMan, fire that sucker up!

Tman -Thanks and keep watchin'    Here is the completed gun/syncro assy on  the engine. These will be the last shots of this ,I want it in the fuse asap.

I also finished and primed the cockpit exterior and the last of the small details ,here is the throttle handle ,the canopy crank with quick release handle and the armor also the lens holder for the gunsite.

Engine looks like it could fire up.

Wnut -Thanks- I am aware of the hinges on the gun panel as well as the ammo doors .The gun panel aren't so much a compound curve ,they curve inwards and when sanded off there is the flat needed to install the correct appearing hinge. I cant see a hinge on pix of the area ,they are inside the skin. I have researched this part extensively in order to correct it. I will glue the hell out of the top front panel ,fill the joint and then saw the hinge line straight. Some hinges from The Model Garage would be nice ,I havent found any long enough though.I heard they make some for truck model hoods ,those are what I need . I am sealing it all up at this point,thinning the panels at the joint lines and will saw it all apart some other time. Thanks for the help.

Krow, I can't remember if you said you were going to show the engine and MG mount detail with open cowl panels.  The piano hinge that is on either side of the center section in front of the guns is compound curve on the model.  Wasn't sure if you were aware and couldn't remember if it was in one of your previous posts.

As far as shows in Canada there are a few I can go to .Vancouver IPMS is always a definite for me and the "Western Canada" model show ,in Alberta (?) I will try to hit this year as it is at an airfield where they have a Lancaster. I will also hit the Vancouver Automotive Modelers  show ,they always have a good turnout. There is not a cohesive effort in Canada regarding model shows ,somewhat sad.

Although as soon as this is posted someone will disagree and I might even get some comments. The lack of an IPMS Canada National show makes my point for me. I have heard of a Bi-annual show back east but not lately.The Canadian model sites I have been on are pretty much dead.

As far as the FW goes I am painting details , pix later.

Should leave enough time to complete before the spring model contest season. Lucky you have a local IPMS show in the near future. On that note it seems there are only two provinces that get to host one....

Added another lever and rod end to enter the cockpit with the linkage.

I went on and mounted the linkage ,I will paint in situ.

And on the engine assembly...

...a bracket to the front of the cockpit will finish this.

I managed to get the throttle linkage sorted to some degree .I got some.047" dia.  rod ends from  rbmotion. They are perfect and make the part look real, they even come with a small 'nut' . Some p/e runner 'arms' and a length of .032" s/s tube with some Grandt line bolts complete the assembly.

Parts in place .I will detail the guns and get to the throttle linkage next.

Nice work on scratchbuilding the syncronizers. I can't believe a kit that big missed something like that.

Here is an update on this.I got the guns and cover clearanced ,but then decided to get the brass barrels. These were installed and look good ,they are smaller than the kit and the Verlinden resin ones.

Also added a Tuner Motor Factory (car stuff)  hose for the oxygen in my cockpit.

I almost forgot the gun syncronizers there are two ,scratchbuilt from styrene .The kit does not supply any and they sit right on top in the open. I will make a mount for these and wire them as well. I will be adding a throttle linkage to this cockpit/power egg and then fuselage sealing .

And here are the syncro's in place on the top of the engine.

This will put us over 3000 views on this build.

Oh mama, I like it!! Got the quarter scale version of this plane by Eduard and hoping to do some of the same detail.

The new machine gun tubes should look better IMHO. Nothing better than using metal for something that was actually metal.

Stalled out in Oct ,show duties dontcha know....  I was getting fit issues with the fuselage machine guns so I ordered these :

I also buggered up some decals so I ordered these; Hobbydecal 1/24 FW 190 dry transfers.

Both of the above from Spruebrothers.

This book has a semi-detailed build of the Trump 1/24 FW 190 D9 well worth getting for this kit.I dont know for sure but the Polish/English translation comes across as very harsh on some details of the kit but does not even see others. I found I was on the right track in some areas of my build and found info on other details.The book has great drawings of the real planes equipment.  ISBN #  978-83-7237-185-0   . From Amazon.

I am itching to get back on this ,later this month.

Jmodeler , wwheels- Closed up for now , to be opened maybe next year -remember with a D-9 the landing gear floor was removed to fit the Jumo 213 ,all the rear of the engine is visible underneath.

Wnut- Thank you . Todays work on the ip mounting and gun cowl fitting. Gun cowl is very thin and the top of the guns is flattened out to get this fit.....
