It looks very good to me!!!! I wish I could do so good!!!
I have that very kit waiting to be built, did she have any problems with the decals? I've heard bad, bad things about Academy's 'cals (thanks everyone)Tongue [:P] but I got this kit for the colorful nose art.

Whoa. That's incredible! Good job, Mrs. Allan!! My first model was a sad lump of plastic and fogged clear peices... I guess it helps to have allan around with an airbrush! What scale is it in and what did you use for the metal? Tell us what your next project is and allan, get her to sign up!!! Smile [:)]

Thanks, guys! Donna sends her thanks and wholehearted appreciation.

Adam,

The decals are fine, fortunately. Donna didnt have much trouble trying to make them conform. Although a closer look shows that some edges cracked up, probably because of the handling. Looking back, Id hate to imagine what would have happened if the decals she used were either too thick or wont stick, or both!

Dj,

I lulled little Mikhaila to sleep, hows that? Pretty soon I'd be doing the dishes! Disapprove [V]Wink [;)]Big Smile [:D]

Shrikes,

Thanks, my friend. The kit posted here is in 1/72. She used Gunze Silver (mine) on it using a Tamiya HG (also mine)Shock [:O]. Shes currently working on a 1/72 F-6F Hellcat although its taking her a longer time to do between work and our daughter. Shes still a bit shy signing up here but do read the posts from time to time.

Outstanding job Donna. You go girl! Jump in here under your own signature, you have nothing to be shy about. Remember that about 15 world recognized aviation records are still held by Amelia Earhart (they always will be because they were "FIRSTS").

Jackie Cochcran was the founder and driving force behind the Women's Air Service Pilots (WASP). So again, don't be shy and join in.

Looks really great! I'm still trying to get to that level and I've build 3 or 4 so far. Though I've only completed 2 so far. How long did it take for that silver to dry?

Great stuff, Donna!

My first model was a dud from the begining. Come to think of it, the last model I completed was an "also ran" at best.

Fortunately for me, it looks like the next thing to roll out of the "CFB Upnorth" hangar might come close to the superior quality of your P-47 there. :-)

Hehehe... Big Smile [:D] just as long as you don't "weather" the plates and glasses, or you'll defeat the purpose of cleaning them...

[:0][:0][:0][:0]WOW Mrs. Allan!

That's just great! I should show my wife this and maybe it would inspire her to build a kit with me. That's just fantastic! You should be very proud.

Best Wishes

Looks very good! Heck, my first model didn't even have paint on it!

Yea, I need to get my fiance on here. She's actually building an old MPC kit of Ra. Ra was the ruler of a planet in the movie "Stargate". We love "Stargate" and she saw it in a hobby store and couldn't resist it. This is her first model.

To all:

Thank you for the compliment! Its very encouraging. Im really interested in the hobby and I will try my best to finish the Hellcat even though Im pressed for time between work the baby and the household. I'll try to make more time for building models. Allan gave me a lot of help but he let me do all the work and he let me use his tools. Thank you for the compliment!

To rangerj, thanks for the words of encouragement.
To maddafinga, the silver paint took only seconds to dry.

Hmmm, what kind of paint did you use, silver always takes way longer than it should to my mind.

Madda, this is Allan. She used Gunze Silver (H8) lacquer paint. Gunze usually dries up in just a few secs.

Allan: Okay, are all the gunze paints i see in hobby shops here (like STC) lacquer? I've never worked with them before, but they do have some interesting colors that tamiya just doesn't have... What do you use to thin them and should i be wary of having this eat through other layers of enamel or acrylic? Smile [:)]

Donna: Can't wait to see the hellcat! I suppose you'll be going along to allan's meetings now! Smile [:)]

Shrikes,

There are two kinds of Gunze paint: the lacquer (with the tab on the lid) and the Aqueous (water-based, with the flat lid). I seldom use the water based type since it sometimes ... well, melts in the hand (wet hands, that is). The lacquer paint provides quite a tough finish, and if it doesnt dry in a few seconds after spraying its probably thinned too much. Gunze thinner works best with them (although quite expensive), but you could try your luck on bottled hardware lacquer thinners (just try them on a few drops of paint in a palette first, since the strength of hardware thinners vary). I havent had any problems with lacquer on acrylics and vice-versa. Same is true with enamels on lacquer. But lacquer on enamel can be a bit dangerous.

Ive brought Donna along a few meetings, and in fact she was partly influenced to try the hobby out because of that. Maybe you'll get to meet her one of these days.
