I think that my next bi-plane will be German; either an Albatross, or the LVG. In the mean time, I think I'm going to finish up a couple of armor builds I've had sitting for a while.

I have to agree about WnW's engineering........it is superb! I can see 2 areas where I somehow screwed it up; the top deck and the cowling. Both of these I am sure it was because I didn't follow the assembly sequence to the letter. I don't blame WnW, I blame myself for not taking my time. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to pay more attention to the instructions next time.

I'll stay tuned for the SE 5a as that one is lurking in my stash.  The sensible part of me is saying it'll be just fine without the terminals.  The raging OCD part of me is saying "OH NO IT WON'T".  For my kit that is. I jsut can't leave OOB well enough alone.

Isn't it funny so far, that if something goes a bit sideways with these WnW kits it has been an assembly issue and not an engineering issue. Gotta love these kits.

Thanks Dave. Yes, the terminals were very tiny, and I just couldn't get them to do what I wanted so I left them off. I have Wingnut Wings' SE 5A, and it takes the flat flying wires also. I may try using them again.

Simply stunning!  You did a fantastic job of getting the camo wrapped around on the underside of the wings.  I was looking at the wire terminals on RB Productions website.  I was thinking those might be a bit fiddley.

Excellent bi-plane!

B+W photos with a suitable back ground would look real. Antique the picture (yellow tint to brown around the edges) and you would have convincing pictures of the aircraft from WWI! er, your computer photo shop.

Looks like Wing Nut Wings really has this era and scale dialed in. Looking forward to more!

There are 1/32 scale resin WWI pilots available also. I would get Billy Bishop (Canadian ace) There should be a British one or two also

Ok Guys, this one is done! It's not perfect, I had problems with the cowling, but overall I'm pretty happy with it. I'm sure that any fit problems were self induced, and not Wingnut Wings problem. I used RB Productions British Flying wires for the main rigging, and 2 lb. test fishing line for the control linkages. The flying wires have a separately available attachment set, but they are pretty small, and after losing 3 to the carpet monster, I just glued the wires directly to the wings. I think they still look pretty good though. I'm really happy with the control wires and the turnbuckles I made from .005 Brass tube. I'll use the same system on my next build which will be WnW Albatros D.Va.

Thanks guys! I haven't been able to make any more progress since my last up-date, other than to clear coat it with Testors Dullcoat. I'm hoping I'll get some time today to start on the rigging.

I found the Pheon message board.  The plan for those Jasta 5 decals appears to be for the Wingnut kit.  Some cool scheme in that group.  Thanks for that tip.

Well, here's a quick update before I head off to work. The decaling, main assembly, and painting is done. I'll let it all dry today, and shoot it with clear flat this afternoon.

Thanks Frank. Yes, these kits are awesome! They are supposed to release a 1/32 scale Gotha bomber sometime this year! I don't know if I'll have the room for that one!

As far as I know, right now there aren't any aftermarket decals yet. Wingnut Wings has said they have over 70 different markings they are planning on releasing, either as decal sheets, or as different kits. I heard they were planning on releasing the decals relatively soon. Also, there is a company out of France I think called Pheon Models, and he is planning on doing all of the aircraft  of Jasta 5. I'm not sure if they will be in 1/48 scale only, or both 48, and 32. Another option, and one I might just try myself, is scanning a 1/48 scaled decal sheet, and then enlarging it by 150% to 1/32 scale, and printing my own decals.
