Anyone interested in another group build?

Dan, this isn't my build but I don't think anyone will split hairs over your Osprey. It looks like there's a bunch of us taking part in this build. I can't wait to see all of the pix this summer!

I'm not sure of this one, but I have a 1/72 scale V-22 Osprey that I'd like to build for this theme. Are the Marines using these yet or are they still being tested?

Gary, sorry about the slow response, I was stationed in MCRD San Diego, Pendleton, NAS Millington, MCAS New River (your backyard)....all for training, then back out to MCAS Tustin, MCAS El Toro, and finally MCAS Miramar after all of the base closures. All in four years, of course that doesn't include the west pac!! LOL What was your MOS?? Mine was 6323, CH-53E Avionics Technician.....I love that bird!!! Semper FI

well, thanks for inviting everybody. we have never done a group build either, we are going to take this one as a learning expierence. It will be great for all of us. Maybe we'll head one up one day. We have decided on vmf 121 squadron from ww2. we may both be doing the same plane as it is my wife's first, that way we can work together step by step. Of course she is doing hers all by herself, including painting. it will more than likely an f4f-4 or an f4u corsair. Not sure but I'll let you know when we decide. we started by getting some background on the squadron.

Great to have you both in on this. As you've probably already read earlier, this is my first group build, so any advice or help you wanna give me is much appreciated!! I haven't decided what I'm building, neither. As long it's decided on, built, and displayed by July 30................

Me and my wife will join in, not sure what we will build yet, still looking. But we do want to participate, so add two to the total. Sounds great!

Where in the Corps were you stationed? I was at Cherry Point, NC, for almost my entire 11.5 years in the Corps. Semper Fi!!

I think that sounds like a great idea, I've never been in a group build, and the Marine theme would be awesome, since I was in them.....oh by the way does that mean we can build the Presidential Helos as well, that would be really cool!!

Thanks for the info. That's kinda what I thought. I knew only Marines flew the Presidential helos, and that the President has a Blackhawk derivative, but I just wasn't sure. Thank Goodness for this forum!!!

HMX-1 (presidents squadron) flies a couple VH-60N "Whitehawks," but those are the only 60s in the Marine Corps inventory. They are painted in the same scheme as their H-3s, 46s, and most of their 53s (one or two have the TPS if memory serves)

Anyway, I thought that just a USMC theme would be great. Nothing specific. Anyone can build what they want, as long as it's historically accurate and has USMC markings. I don't see why we would have to get any more specific than that. It's just for fun. My model club here in Indy has done similar things in the past, and everyone enjoyed it. Our themes were 'early '50s jets, Hollywood planes, Korean War planes, Desert Storm aircraft, etc. Anyone could build what they wanted, in any scale, as long as it pertained to that particular theme. I didn't participate in any of them mainly because I didn't know if I'd be at the meeting that the builds were due on (my job keeps me on the road a lot). So, this will be my first group build. I didn't want to start with anything too specific for my first one. And, if you don't want to participate, that's fine. It's just for fun. Looking forward to seeing what gets built!!

So far, I count four participants (AJACKETSFAN, Jeeves, EasyCo), including me. And if you wanna back out later on, no problem. No obligations on this.

I could get into this one-- I have an AM SBD-1 that is begging for the colorful pre-war USMC scheme...

This would fall into the chopper area, but why not be ver specific, and make it all Blackhawks and their varients?

i agree with djmodels1999 in that i would prefer a specific subject, but then again i'm only into WWII stuff at the moment, so i guess i'll sit back and see what comes out of it all!

Hmmmm....I've got that EA-6B Prowler (1/72 scale)..Im lookin at em right now. The decals are that Marines "Playboy" VMAQ-2. I'm in...Lets go!!

Might join in but can not get started before mid to end of Feb. USMC aircraft is a huge subject.. Couldn't we narrow it a little... I think group build are great because one can exchange info and/or experience about a particular type or particular model. Making it too wide dilutes the interest, to me in any case.

Darned if I know. I've never participated in a group build, either. As far as I'm concerned, as long as the participants have their stuff displayed in this post on 30 July 2004, you can start whenever you like. I would say that we don't display the models until 30 July 2004 - get all models displayed on the same day. I would like to have all participants sign in via this post by the end of this month (Jan 2004) though, just so we all know who is in on the fun. What do you think? Did I forget anything? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!

Yeah, I mean I've never done a group build but the time frame seems ok. And it would give me a chance to practice camo with the airbrush... I'm in when do we start, what does a group build entail?

Ooooh, I forgot about the OV-10. Too bad no one makes a decent 1/48th version of that (I don't consider the Testors offering a DECENT kit).

So, are you in, AJACKETSFAN? I haven't decided what I'm gonna build yet, but, it'll be 1/48th, and probably have a prop.
