ME-410 WIP...all done

It's hard to put into words.  Chukw's work is meticulous with incredible attention to detail.  I think that most of us watch his threads in awe.  In my case I can take bits and pieces of his work and expand my skills.  But to duplicate the effort in the total project is out of the question for me.  That is where the good Dr. Fermis comes in.  I think what he does with a kit can be looked at as "Hey I could do that !"  But it still is at a level where I will have to grow and improve in all aspects of the hobby.  So, following these artists and the many other great contributors in this forum allows us all to grow with the hobby.  We give and we take and we share.

C'mon Doogs!!!  WIP it up. The worst that can happen is, you'll get some helpful advice. Plus, knowing that others are watching will help push you to take the extra step. It has worked wonders for my models. Now I have to replace all the ones I did before I joined up here, cause they just can't stand up next to what I can do now!!!

Ditto on the cockpit! Amazing detail. Can you share your method for making masking tape belts. I've done it but it doesn't come anywhere near as good as yours looks.

Thanks for the link Fermis. One other question, do you fold the masking tape over on itself? I tried that and the tape seemed a little too stiff. So I've used it with the adhesive side applied right on the seat.

Modelgeek, I use just a single layer, not folded. I also use tiny dabs of CA here and there. Sometimes, over time, the adhesive from the tape alone seems to wear off, and the tape will lift. I haven't had any problems with the ones that had a couple dabs of CA though.

Oughtta have the rest of the pit done this evening, and getting started on the sights. They're coming!!!

 Alright, a little update.

Scratched a gun sight for up front.

Painted

Fuse is closed up, seams cleaned up and scribed for the centerline seam. Finished the rest of the pit. The gunners station got simple scratched sights and a couple wires.

And the front office got a few more tiny details.

.......uh, WOW!

That interior is amazing!  Looks like someone could just sit down and start pre-flight.

 The control cables aren't hooked up yet!!!!

Another little update.

Gun sights and grab handles attached.

Internal framing painted.

And in place on the plane.

Both ends of the telescopic sight were drilled out and filled with clear glue for "glass".

All was going well with the spinner pinwheel. I had to do a little touchup, ended up demolishing the rest of the decal, but the touchup spot was beautiful

 So, I stripped off the old decal and did some masking.

Here's the result

Man, this is awesome to watch.  Not only the speed at which you post progress pics, but the overall quality of the build.  I am extremely envious!  Great stuff fermis, love the attention to the details.

As of right now, she's waiting for paint, but I'm gonna do a trial run on an old 410 testbed tonight, If all goes well, I'll be painting the real deal this weekend. Got band practice tomorrow then going to Megadeth, Slayer, Testament on thursday..........YEAH!!!!!

Hey Rob, are you planning on going to the Kalamazoo contest on the 11th of sept???

Stunning! taking the hobby to that of a art, can not wait for the finished pics, guess my 410's will just stay in the box after this.

I never want winter to come but you guys are putting thoughts of snowy nights and free time!

I sprayed her in RLM 74,75,76, lightening each color a bit with white. Standard splinter camo.

 I then cut paper masks for the mottling. I used poster-tac to keep the paper elevated, for nice, soft edges.

She's been glossed and decaled.

WOW...great finish...great WIP shots as well...

Dude! Love how you did the mottling and how it turned! 

I gotta say, I've learned a good bit of simple but effective tips from watching your builds. I just wish I could get the desire back to start building again, but colder weather is coming, I should be back at the bench then.

Looks like another one is all done(aside from the canopy, which will later be open, just set in place for now)

Pastel chalk for the exaust.....my awesome lighting makes one side look lighter and the other, darker than what the eye actually sees

I added antenna wire from stretched sprue, with a "spring" of coiled wire on the tail.

I dunno what happened here!!!!

Now....it's break time. Headed up north tomorrow for a long weekend of salmon fishing....WOOOOPEEEE!!!
