Tamiya Zero's, new vs. old, DONE
Posted by fermis on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 9:44 AM

I'm sure many already know, the difference in these kits is night and day. I'll be doing these side by side (along with a Hase "Pete", seperate thread). The only addition will be a resin seat and "detail up" set (seatbelts, wheel chocks, gun barrells and pitot) for the new kit. I used the new kit seat for the old kit. Let's compare......

There really is no comparison!

Not even gonna bother with sidewall pics of the old kit.

One thing I really like about these kits, is that the pits can be slid into the fuse from below after being cemented together. No sanding dust all over the pit!

Excellent work fermis, a lot of detail for 1/48! and OTB?

Got to find me (or figure how to better scratch) the seat belts/buckles.

Both are great kits but yeah the new one is spectacular. No real point in buying any aftermarket stuff to add to it.

Have to say though save something for my Japanese GB in Sept Femis Wink

I wonder if Tamiya will ever revamp or even make a new kit of their A6m2 Rufe since they released the new mold A6m5?

And I believe everyone has a Tamiya Zeke in their stash in one form or the other.

On the workbench: Dragon 1/350 scale Ticonderoga class USS BunkerHill 1/720 scale Italeri USS Harry S. Truman 1/72 scale Encore Yak-6

Well they did release a new-tool A6M3 which is very nice (and arguably tye best sub-variant that served), but they have yet -- I believe -- to re-tool their basic A6M2...

Well they could always rebox the new tool A6m3 as a A6m2 those two aircraft were virtually identical.

Thanks again all!Toast

Got these ready for paint. The new kit comes with a sheet for masking the canopy, but it is not pre-cut........pretty tedious, but the lines are perfect!

The stabilizers are solid pieces, not the typical top/bottom. To drop the elevators, I drug the back of a blade through the channel on both sides, til it was thin enough to simply bend the elevators down.

Pretty obvious which is which!

See ya'll next week!Toast

Fermis, I loved that kit, built it when it first came out. Night and day compared to the old kit - which I still have in my stash! Your build is coming along very nicely, what color scheme are you planning ot do?

I thought I'll include a few more comparison pictures here, the figures included are also much better and includes 2 pilots and bigger (?!).
