Just curious what the favorite scale is here.
Posted by stram8777 on Thursday, February 5, 2004 8:48 PM
I was ordering some things from an on-line retailer earlier as well as looking at what I currently have and I realized that my favorite scale is 1/72. I was just curious what everyone prefers here.

Sorry if this has been posted before.

Depends on what I'm building, really.... smaller single engine aircraft, I'd rather have 1/48 or 1/32 scale. Bombers or civilian transportation aircraft, 1/72 or 1/144.

I'm a big 1/48 fan myself.Mostly because of these little clubs I call fingers. The extra detail is nice too.

Ditto. Anything smaller is for people with little fingers. Which is ok. Wink [;)]

I prefer 1/48, but make a few exceptions every now and then (like when I build cars)Tongue [:P]

1/72 for most subjects though I prefer 1/200 for airliners and other big beasts...

1/72, still not convinced about 1/48, but then I have only built one kit in that scale and 5 in 1/72!

Subject to change.

I'll take 1/48 - but in my early days 1/72 cos it was easier to buy kits with my pocket money as a youngster! Have done 144's, 200's, 32's & box-scales, but I rather keep all my kits within the same scale of 48's now (I'm just waiting for a B-52 to be released in this scale lol)

I'm in with the 1/48th scale crowd. Mainly because of my eyesight, in addition to my ham fists!

My favorite is by far is 1/48th. But for modern bombers 1/72nd is what I deal with due to the size.

I tend toward 1/48 (at least for aircraft), but in the last year i've built models in 1/8, 1/16, 1/24, 1/25, 1/48, and 1/144. On my bench I currently have models in 1/32, 1/48 and 1/72 (and a figure in 200mm).

I guess the subject is more important than the scale.

I like 1/59.7 scale myself, but no one has ever made a kit in it, so I settle for 1/48 Big Smile [:D]

Mine is 1/72 scale. I like consistency across the board; that's why I also model my Armor in 1/72 scale as well.

That picture reminds me of what I want to do to a JU288 I am attempting to build. It too is in 1/72 scale and the itty bitty windows are driving crazy!

If I didn't put so much work into it, I would think about a CRASHdiorama.

Oh and scale wise, any one that is big enough so that I can find parts the go flying across the room!

I like building 1/48, but I like displaying 1/72.

Realistically speaking, with my eyes and coordination, 1/48 works best for my abilities. However, I really like seeing models displayed next to each other - it lends a reality of scale. Even if someone produced a 1/48 B-52 or KC-135, it would be too big to display together with F-15's, F-4's, etc, in anything but a small museum, and your eye would have a hard time viewing such large models in perspective except at a large distance. To me, 1/72 models look very nice placed side-by-side.

Hi all,

I'm tending to favor 1/72 now that I've come back to modeling after ten years or so away from the hobby. Before that, I built pretty much anything, with the subject being more important than the scale. However, I favored 1/48 scale Monogram WWII fighters.

It would be nice to have a whole collection in one scale, but that's really hard to do. I don't see anyone making a U.S.S. Iowa in 1/72, for example. Big Smile [:D]

Regards,

-Drew

I build one scale, one era. 1/48 WW II aircraft are all that interests me.

1/48 is my favorite, but I'll build in any scale that has the subject that I'm after.

1/32 or 1/24 or bigger!

I HATE 1/72. Why would you bother to detail a 1/72 WWII fighter with a wingspan of 4" that everyone will overlook as a toy. I don't built something unless it has presence. The only 1/72 I will build are giant planes, and oh yeah, the wooden 1/72 HMS Victory I have that is 55 inches long.

1/72 for planes, armor, patrol boats, sci-fi.
It is fun to show an M-1 Abrams, F-117, PT boat and X-wing all together for scale
reference.

Favourite aircraft scale? That is a tough one as I build 1/72, 1/48 & 1/32 scale. It depends on the subject. A buddy of mine conjures up the most awesome detailing on 1/32 scale. For myself I look at available space to place the models. As it is my I have two large showcases filled up and I am running out of space. Maybe 1/32 is my favourite after all.

I prefer 1/72 because of its small size. Followed by 1/48 which sometimes has more detail.

In terms of adding detail, I like 1/48 scale. They're large enough to make it easier to add cockpit detail, yet many of them are small enough that they don't take up too much space. Having said that, a well-built, well-detailed 1/32 scale model is truly a thing of beauty!
