Who makes a good F100?

not sure on the revellogram hun but i recommend the trumpeter kit. you can find them pretty cheap. they offer the C,D,and F.

Thanks guys. Willieandjoe, do you remember if the monogram kit has recessed panel lines? I think I remember the Lindberg kit being covered in those giant rivets that one used to see on plane kits.

I love Monogram's model. It has really nice detail, specially the cockpit and it's cheaper than Trumpy. You really don't have to rescribe if you lightly sand down the raised panel lines. You need to polish out the surface after sanding to prepare it for NMF.  

Well, upon recommendations I bought the Monogram kit. It is the F-100 fighter bomber kit #5424. TexGunner, I believe that this is the same kit that you built (looks fantastic by the way!) I say this because it has the same markings.

Can anyone tell me why it is called the F100 Fighter Bomber and not Super Sabre? Havent received it yet so I cannot look at the paperwork and perhaps get this answer.

It's name is the Super Saber, The classification is a fighter/bomber.

The Monagram/Revell is a great value kit, I built it a few years for a friend. It builds into a nice kit.

Probably as a move to avoid copyright infringement. The name Super Sabre is most likely owned by some aerospace company that gobbled up North American, while F-100 and Fighter Bomber are public domain government terms. To avoid having to pay money and passing off the cost to the consumer, it is easier to call it F-100 Fighter Bomber. God bless the lawyers...

Thanks Chris!  That kit was given to me by the pilot who flew that particular plane in Viet Nam, retired Air Force Major Don Schmenk.  Here's a link to his website.  I had contacted him about questions regarding the Hun and he generously replied by sending me the Monogram kit.

I want to build the plane and give it to my dad for Christmas. He worked on F100's in the sixties. It is a surprise so I cannot ask him too much about it. I do think however that "his" planes were natural metal. This upsets me because I think I will need some more decals since the kit decals are white on the box art. Perhaps some black "USAF" and tail numbers. I am new to the internet modeling community and wonder if there is a "swapshop" kind of thing where someone may have some extra decals laying around that they would be happy to get rid of. I have never before bought decals other than the kit supplied ones and are not sure how it works.

Chris, try some of the online venders.  Squadron or Sprue Brothers either one should have quite a few NaturalMetalFinish Hun decals to chose from.  Hey, maybe even your dad's unit?  Good luck!

how does the revell kit build up? im going nmf with my trumpy kit and want do a camo scheme bird also.

The Revell kit builds up nicely. I just started mine this afternoon and it is one of their better molds.

Revell just re-issued the F-100 kit and I`ve seen the price vary from $16 - $22.00. It has nice detail and pretty good fit. I haven`t built the Trumpy kit...still waiting for a good deal on one. I believe they are the only two kits out there...if you ignore the Lindberg kit.

Super sabre is what the manufacturing name of a particular version that houses other electronics like the Bulpup missile and electronic pods in its days.The cockpit layout is not the same as the free fall bomb variant.I have flown both versions in my younger years in Vietnam -Nam.The Monogram kit is well done for its time.Just put the upper canopy part from the monogram kit to the trumpeter kit in the open position and you will be on target.Give Trumpeter credit for at least trying.The trumpeter 1/32 scale F-100 has the correct cuns .

If you look on the box of many models today you will see the manufacturers copyright/trade mark credit. Aircraft kits are not as bad as car kits where the automobile manufacturer is given credit AND organizations such as NASCAR and NHRA, etc get their pound of flesh. The airlines have also jumped in to get a piece of the action. I think that any aircraft, or other vehicle, that was paid to be developed  by a public entity, e.g. the U.S. government, should be the public's property and all rights should belong to the public. As stated above, or better yet as stated by Billy Shakespear, "kill all the lawyers". Said with toung planted firmly in cheek, and a bit cheeky. Cheers!

I built the Revell version and there is a photo report under Aircraft back on page 10. The kit was not too bad for the price. A few canopy fit issues but acceptable and fun to build.

Another resurrected old thread...........The Monogram kit has excellent molded details, specially in the pit. I have built a couple of them and they are A+. The Trumpeter I haven't dealt with but I have read reviews citing some fit issues, and Monogram's pit rated as better detailed.

I built a 1/72 F-100C from some strange brand I never have seen before or since. I think it was a copy of some old kit from way back when. 

I put it in S.E.A. camo and ditched the poorly molded AGM-12 and poorly molded sidewinders for a set of 4 M117 750 pound bombs for that Vietnam era look.
