I've been known to 'get sick' and leave work to get something done at the bench...  but not today.

Manstein's revenge

mikeymize

Count me in please. I will build a MiG..... somewhere between a "17" and "29" ,just not sure which one but it'll definitely be a MiG!

Welcome aboard...lots of marks to choose from...I suggest the 29---don't have one of those in yet...

Well, got sidetracked as usual; about a month but....... it will most certainly be a  MiG-17 PFU "Fresco" , Hobby Boss. NMF will be a challenge for me but I gotta do it sometime!

Cheers

Well, I still haven't seen the replacement scriber yet, so I may end up penciling the panel lines......

Hmmmmmmmmm...that could be interesting.  So would you seal the lines in with a gloss coat?

Pencil works good for panel lines.  I've sealed mine with a flat clear and that kills the pencil "sheen".  I think it's a handy technique.

I decided I'm gonna do this one with a spraycan laquer since I can't find the cap for my bottle for the airbrush, or the bottle for that matter.  So I got the first mist coat on.  Doing it in one of the white paint schemes.  Need to make the numbers and the other little decal upfront, so gotta get my copy of illustrator installed and figure out how to use it.  HAH  Can't get any photo's until Sunday as I leave when it's dark and come home when it's dark.

I've done the same thing before, works fine on 1/72 machines, haven't had to try it on larger stuff though.

Yeah, I've added graphite lines INSIDE of panel lines but never as a complete substitution...

I've only done it on 1/72 kits with raised lines. "building" a raised panel line seems line a lot of time invested for a panel line that may or may not supposed to be there.

Anyone worked with the Eduard canopy masks for the Trumpy 1/32 Mig-21 MF?  I'm not sure I'm smart enough to figure out their directions... I love Eduard masks and have used them several times, but this set is far more complex, as it seems to be designed to be added and removed in layers in order to get the brown rubber sealing line painted in accurately.  I'm having trouble parsing what goes on when from the basic 2D instructions, though.

NervousEnergy- I masked mine with thin strips of yellow Tamiya tape... same-same material as the Eduard masks just not precut.  I used a fresh #11 blade to cut around the framing.

I didn't know about a brown rubber sealing strip...but I'm not going to worry about it now.

Eh, you've seen the progress to date...   I might get to throwing some paint at it later though.

And now it is later.... heavily preshaded.

And later still.

I've roughly sprayed MM enamel Dark Tan to fill in the panels and then followed that with a Dark Tan/White mix at 60:40 to more finely fill in the color.  I lose most of the shading effect, but since this is going to be a 5 color paint scheme there's still plenty of time left to play tricks with the paint.   The other camo paints will all be MM enamels as well: Leather for the dark, reddish brown; Olive Drab FS34087; Olivegrun RLM 80 and Lichtblau RLM 76.   They might be 'slightly inaccurate' color selections, but I think they'll look pretty good once finished and weathered.

Looks good Dre....and we are about on the same pace!

Time has really been limited lately (that's about over now though!). Did the pre-shade the other night, and sprayed "Fulcrum Grey" last night, with some post-shading as well. Should have the green camo done today!

I think that you're preshading might show a little better than mine, Fermis.

What are you going to use for the green?   I have a Fulcrum in the stash and it's good to know these things.

I have attend an football party later today (totally against my wishes, of course), so no work will get done until much later tonight, if at all...  what a bummer.

There's a ton of options for Fulcrum schemes....I picked up some "Fulcrum grey green"(very pale green) and well as some "Russian topside green" (farely dark)....will start with a mix of the two and see how that looks. Looking for something a little more in line with this....

Wow---cool looking schemes...

...from my refs the Russian green on the MiG-29 should be very pale---almost a faded pea-green...

Hmmmmmmmmm...some Ruskie must have come in close contact with the tail of a US Navy Skyraider at some point...

Got the camo finished up (twice!)....and got in an evening deer hunt!

My first go at the green, I mixed "topside green" and "gray green", along with some post shading. It looked great....until I pulled the masking off.....

WAAAAY  too dark....BOOOOOOOOO!

I re-masked, and mixed RLM71, with a dash of RLM02, and a little bit of "Fulcrum gray/green". I post-shaded a few times with the same mix, lightened with the gray/green....

Much better!

....and from the hunt!!!

Kinda hard to see...the arrow is pointed right at it. I just watched this one for a while and let him walk away. Just a yearling buck that doesn't know any better.

You gotta respect a man who can get in a deer-stand and hunt his dinner with a bow in-between applying paint coats on his MiG...

Not only that, he let dinner walk away...   You don't just respect that, you stand and remove your hat when Fermis walks by.

I think that the lighter coloration looks better too, Fermis.

agreed, nice recovery on the paint colour. You'd hate to get out-flanked by a Fulcrum...

Nice looking Fulcrum, fermis!

My dentist was saying today how his son passed up a 9-point because it was too small!
