Falconmod- thanks!

Dean- I'm still convinced that the Flanker is the more beautiful and graceful aircraft although I am warming up to the MiG-29 more as time passes.   There's plenty of airshow Flanker kits out there and even a monster 1/32 decal sheet for an Indian AF Su-30 done up in a showy scheme.

Dre,

  I used model master paint,

the nose  was FS36118, the light gray was FS36375  and the darker gray I believe was FS36270

Thanks, Vance! Man, those sets aren't cheap....

The molds were probably based on factory plans smuggled out of Mother Russia by a well-paid informant...

Remember I said that I preferred the Mig-29 to the SU-27? Well I have changed my mind again! I cannot decide, I guess it's a tie with me, the SU-27 is a simply beautiful aircraft, I would not normally apply the word beautiful to a machine as it does not really suit, but in this case it does I think. This is simply an incredible looking aircraft. So I guess I would say it is impossible for me to say which I prefer as I see the Mig-29 sometimes and I think man that's the one! But then I saw this video and it swung the other way! What do you guys prefer? Check this video out and tell me what you think, I suddenly want to do an airshow Flanker!

Yeah but I was thinking if you wanted both, at no extra cost it could be done. Resin is usually expensive but I will check it out.

Dean, if you haven't checked out that Hobby Search link from Vance, do so as they list a bunch of resin conversion stuff for the smaller scales.   All kinds of goodies for the well-heeled consumer.

Pork- I'd be the last person to ding anyone over accuracy issues... especially on anything Russian.

Actually if you keep the su 30mk kit as is in the box and just use the extras you will have an su27 ub anyway and use the new parts and make it, I would but I have no decals for it, however it is something that can be done.

You know I was thinking if anyone wanted an SU35 if you get the 1/48 su-30mk, and the su27 both from academy, without much effort it could be done, with the spare parts to make an su27ub

I just might do it

Great minds think alike! I spotted this about two hours ago! And much cheaper because it's Stateside.

But too bad the Su-25K doesn't carry the Kh-58. I'd be dinged for inaccuracy. :-(

After doing some online research, looks like only the Su-25TK carried the Kh-58. The KT ain't nothin' like the K.  Too bad, because the Kh-58 looks mean slung under the wings. Ah, well.

Porkbits, If you're looking to build a Flanker in the future, that link from Vance has some great resin sets and conversions for 1/72 and 1/48 kits.   I was quite surprised at the amount of stuff that's out there to make a current version of the Su-27 airframe...

Falconmod- that is a sharp looking MiG-29- what colors did you use on that?

Porkbits- when it comes to Russian stuff, who really knows?   As you said, there doesn't seem to be a set standard.

Dean- according to Trumpeter, that big silver cylinder is a cluster munitions canister.

Porkbits

Anyone know where I can get a couple of Kh-58 missiles in 1/48?

Looks like a "Fru Fru Models" is the most available option...

Hobby Search - Fru Fru Models

1001 Modelkits...

Hannants

I also saw listings ( but out-of-stock) for product from North Star Models???

Dre, masterful work there, I really like the layout there on the Frogfoot, I was wondering what is that huge silver bomb under the wing of your Frogfoot?

Thanks, Dre! Appreciate the scans. Interesting that the Trumpeter instructions indicate the rocket pods only on the outer pylons. Very different from Eduard instructions. I'm starting to think that like most things Russian Military, there is no real standard. :-) Who knows?

Your Su-27 is looking great. Makes me all the more eager to get started on mine.

No, as far as i know (and I'm no expert) they do carry Aphids as a normal thing for self-defense. Smile  I just think it odd to waste the rail space on Aphids when it should carry more bombs.

Speaking of stuff to carry...  here's the sheets that show the various pylons and load-out options.

Parts WX4 and WX5 represent the 8 basic pylons and any additional parts #'s refer to the adapter rails that attach to those pylons.  The instructions show the weapons nomenclature and rail combinations beyond what can be mounted directly to the 8 basic pylons.   The load-out diagram shows all the possible combinations for weapons that were included with my kit, and it may be out of date on the current weapons designations.

and it comes out looking like this....  gun pod, big bomb, CBU, napalm

I also have some nice full-color paint guides for all these weapons, but they too may suffer from inaccuracies.  Lemme know if you want to see them as well- I hope those scans help.

And some work on a 1/32 Su-27UB C.   I'm doing this now because it's easier to mask this off and paint without those pesky tail fins, wings and other stuff getting in the way.   Once I get all this sorted, I'll seal the paints and mask them off for protection as I finish it.   I'm not yet up to speed on metallics and heat discoloration, so these may yet turn out ugly.

I do try and keep busy!

Use archers, the missile is great, it has thrust vector and can change course by 90 degrees instantly upon launching! Gonna put two of these on my Mig, Two drop tanks, and two of something else but what hmm?

Hm. Aphids come with the kit and the online references I've read about the Su-25 indicate it uses Aphids as standard weaponry. Is this not correct?

Putting Aphids on a Su-25 just seems wrong, but it has been done.... you should hang some Archers or Alamos on it just to see if anyone notices the discrepancy.

Lol, that's quite a weapons cocktail! :-) I'm thinking a few rocket pods, couple of drop tanks, and Aphids for mine. But I'd like to use the gun pods, too.

Thanks again, will look for your post later.

I'll post it later tonight, Porkbits.

On mine I've got a nice mix of 23mm gun pods, cluster munition canisters, massive optically-guided free-fall bombs and what I think are honking big napalm tanks.

Awesome MiG, falcon! Great paint job there.

Thanks, Vance and Dre. The Eduard kit includes a basic load out diagram in the instructions, but I can't help but think it's not as comprehensive as it could be. Although maybe it is accurate for the Su-25k specifically...? Dunno.

But good to know you can hang almost anything on the pylons. :-) I still might just use a load out that looks cool, rather than going for accuracy. Hm. I love any combat craft burdened with ordnance, in any event (see also: A-10). One day I'd love to do the Academy Sufa.

Dre, if you could post Trumpeter's diagram, I'd very much appreciate it.

Cheers,

PB

Porkbits, I'll try to get Trumpeter's load-out diagram up later as it's pretty good at showing what hangs where (but I make no claims to its accuracy).   Apparently, you can hang damn near anything in the Soviet inventory on a Su-25...
