Dean - I've heard that story before, but with a graphics designer's "where's my logo that I wasn't in a rush for before but am now" kinda spin on it. Nothing like being creative with a sudden, urgent deadline huh?! Wrap up the Spit & settle in for the holidays.

I was wondering why you've been scarce of late...  get it wrapped up and head out for a pint- sounds like you've earned it.

Hi everyone hope everyone is having a good festive time, well just thought I'd let you know I had to vacate my mig for a while as I had to start my first commission build which was a 1/24 Airfix Spitfire, I never build them ever and I was going to do it next year as the collector said there's no rush so great I thought, but a few days later he calls asking how the build is going at that point I look at the table which had on it a laptop and MIG-29UB which is as you know not a Spitfire, so I said yeah great coming along nicely. He asks how soon it can be finished (despite him earlier saying no rush) I say oh about 3 weeks or so, I started it last Monday he has called about a million times for updates and I have just about done the impossible for me, I actually built a 1/24 scale Spitfire with the added bonus of poor fits all round I don't think Airfix used the maths subject when they tooled this kit anyhow I am 1 day away from completion I cannot believe it, I hate that kit and I never want to see it again but having said that I am getting decent money for it so well that's the only reason I did it but on the other hand it is surprising just what can be accomplished  when you really need to as I would spend months on a kit like that, but I have plenty of time now from about Sunday onwards to finish my MIG thank god, building for money is not really enjoyable if I'm honest but that's not to say I would say no to another, just after the festive period lol, hope everyone's Christmas is great and I will actually be able to really get stuck into my MIG in the new year when the Christmas madness is over.

I've gotten a basic grey wash on my Frogger and began glossing it up with Future last night.

Yes, i did those out of sequence because I wanted a layer of grime under the decals in addition to the wash that will go on after the decals.

This is turning into one abused paint job- just what I wanted!

The reviews all seem positive, and the resin and Brassin extras add a lot to the base kit. The only big drawback is that like most of Eduard limited editions, you'll pay for the extras ($100-ish), and, well, it's limited run. You might have a hard time finding it outside of eBay. I had to buy the t-shirt edition directly from the Eduard site, and that was months ago. :-(

Yean man definitely do, I had had my eye on one a while back it was just the standard Kopro kit but looked pretty good, the Eduard kit with the extras I'm guessing is a better one to get, out of curiosity is it any good?

I've read reviews that it's pretty good--accurate and not too bad of a fit (except some gaps around the nacelles, I think). Guess I'll find out soon enough--I hope to get to most of airframe assemble this week. I'll let you know how it goes.

Yah, lots of goodies there. I enjoy working on these Kopro re-pops. Like restoring an ancient artifact to better-than-original condition. :-)

Thanks for the input guys, I take it there is no aftermarket fix yet.

This is Aires 1/32 resin tube. I will try to get close.

Dre

I didn't know that either...  but at least the Soviets made it a better looking copy IMO than Northrop's original design!

Yeah, Sukhoi clearly improved the design, I have to agree!

4 different mixes of two colours?….  New screen name… MIXMASTER Dre!  Good point  with the spine shape vs the green patterns. There are also lots of sharp angles & straight lines with the wings & rudder. I like it!

(And yes, the "Soviet copy" does look much better than Northrup's submission. Odd how similar these two designs were.

Porkbits - cockpit is shaping up nicely. Shirt + kit ?!?

Svenne - I think I'd keep it simple, and close that gap with a small strip of styrene.

Stock plastic or white glue ought to do the trick, Svenne.

Why don't you get a strip of plastic card? Just cut it to the size required and stick it in?

Hi guys,

Wow!!!

This has been progressing quite a bit,  guess I will need the rest of the day just catching up :)

Did some work on my SU-27 last day, I would like to close the sandwich.

But I have encountered a small problem, when I follow Eduard's instructions and cut of the lip that is protruding from the rear of the cockpit top hull and assemble the rear cockpit wall I am left with a significant gap.

How would you resolve this?

I am a bit surprised that Eduard give you a Brassin part that fits so badly...

Or is it just me?

HA!  Got one after I saw the photos of yours!

My Soviet stash stands like this- MiG-15bis, MiG-17, MiG-23, MiG-29, Su-27, Su-27, Su-30.

I might desire another MiG-21 and Su-25 though.....

Thanks, guys! Dean, it's the Eduard limited-edition re-pop of the Kopro kit. Specifically, the version that Eduard sold with Frogfoot t-shirts. The L-sized-shirt kits sold out quickly, so I had to snag one with an XXL shirt. Too big for me, but I'm more interested in the kit. :-)

Excellent work there Porkbits, out of curiosity what brand of kit is the 1/48 SU-25K you're making? Dre as ever looking great, also as you wanna use up your decals, I can recommend the 1/32 Mig-23, I am planning on buying another.

Porkbits & Dre: Great work there guys!!!

BTW guys: The Northrop A-9A lost to the Fairchild Republic A-10 in the contest for the USAF's new ground attack aircraft. The Soviets copied the A-9 to design the Frogfoot. Always stuck me as weird they would copy the losing aircraft.

Glad you like the paint, that's just the effect I've been going for.   Both colors have 4 different mixes in them to give them depth and variety but they will get yet more fading soon.

I think that there's enough tension in the design due to the forward thrust of the spine shape in relation to the wings.  I could have shifted the spine shape back towards the tail for  more balance with the wings but it started to look too cross-like...   The fun thing is that what the eye sees and tries to recognize as a familiar shape changes depending on your viewing angle to the model.   Is it a bird, is it a plane IS IT COMING STRAIGHT AT ME????

One thing's for certain, it ought to stand out on a contest table!

Dre

I had thought to keep the camo a secret until I finished, but oh well...  here she is as of late last night.

I started by cutting out shapes and laying them onto the model to get an idea of what looked good when I hit upon this design.   To me, it can be seen as a flying bird or aircraft design.

I would like to think that each viewer will see something different in it than just an incomplete and odd camo job.   Or maybe I'm looking to see more than is there?   I think it will look good next to my bright green Afghan MiG.

Looks good to me Dre, and I can see some of that pre-shading of the panel lines. The colours you have used have a sort of dusty/faded look to them already, I don't think you need anything more that some panel line washes etc to finish it off. The only thing I'd question (keeping in mind this is the graphic designer's brain talking) is whether it is perhaps too balanced, left-to-right?? I like to see some conflict in proportions!

Looks good, Porkbits.    Nailing down Russian colors is a fun and exciting hobby in itself.
