Damn, lost a prospect...
Out-bid?
Nah, just jealous that Jester joined this GB with a Flanker instead of the Flanker GB that is ongoing.
<wah, wah, wah>
It's OK since I'll save on postage...
Honestly I had no idea that there was a Flanker GB going on right now? How much time is left in it? Mayhap I can enter both??
Eric
It's scheduled to run through the end of the year, but it'll probably go until I finish mine.
If Manny is OK with it, I'll allow a cross-GB build.
To stay on topic for this GB... I got the 4 quarter sections of the engine glued up and waiting for the glue to fully cure before I attempt to clean up the seams. Most of the big sub-assemblies are glued up and awaiting seam cleaning... I guess it's time to focus on the little things.
I'm all about cross-overs; Eric is perfect for that...
...just don't steal him...lol...
Poaching talent? Me?
OK, Jester- you're on the hook now!
Excellent, will start as soon as I finish out this Spitfire I am working on, thanks for welcoming me Dre! Manny, I thought we agreed to keep that on the down low?
Squadron is running a sale on their Eduard 1/48 Flanker kit...very good price...nice decal options...
I have somewhere around 25 Flankers... do I need another?
...yes...the Eduard Limited Edition version w/ Brassin bits and a BIG decal sheet is to be had for$80 (usually $140)...
Meh, it's 1/48... isn't that an Academy re-box?
dunno???
It is a licensed Academy with resin tube & seat, preprinted PE for the cockpit and a regular sheet for added detail.
Some problems with the Academy kit have been corrected (Seat, tube and wheels) while problems reported with the canopy and nose cone remain.
I have it in the stash, paid 500 Sek ($75) and still think it is somewhat pricey especially when you consider that the MIG 21 ProfiPack is available at the same price.

I ordered the correct nose cone from TD...Is there a replacement canopy out there? What's the issue???

I belive that http://www.zactomodels.com/ also have a replacement.
Got the nose-cone but that canopy is a bit harder to find...probably pose it open anyway and won't be able to tell much...
Seems that no one has yet gotten all the facets of a Flanker model kit right yet... even the Trumpeter 1/32 series have their problems (but gods, what a big, beautiful model). They fixed some of the problems from the first release, the Su-27B, in the later runs of the -27UB C and -30MK G but some supercritics are still not pleased. Zactoman, Aires and Wolfpack make sweet resin bits to round out these kits. The Aires resin seats are fan-freaking-tastic.
For the money that Eduard wants for that kit, I'd go up a scale and get one of the Trumpeter monsters for pretty much the same price (although you don't get all the extra goodies).
Well at almost half of the MSRP and WITH all the goodies, I'm happy with the quarter-scale Eduard...Its already BIG even at that scale...and let's face it, once built, probably every Flanker kit out tyhere pretty much looks like a Flanker, which IMO is one of the most attractive jets ever made...
True dat- I'm just more than a little biased towards 1/32 stuff.
Wasn't I working on a MiG.....?
...do you really have to ask??
On the bench: Airfix 1/72 Wildcat; Airfix 1/72 Vampire T11; Airfix 1/72 Fouga Magister
I've got so many shelf queens waiting for time off and nice weather to paint in, yes.
I've got that same Trumpeter Fishbed J sitting here, looking at me in the box... and I'm almost done with the trumpy P-47 for the Jugs GB. Don't know if I can finish it before the scheduled end (been working 6 months on the Jug, but it's also put up a stiff fight...), but I'll give it a try.
Nothing but WWII AC models since I came back to the hobby, so this will make a nice change. Plus I get to cheat by checking out the progress of the other 1/32 '21. :-)
Alright---two more victims!!!
Now open to all Soviet jet aircaft after 1953 that was given the "F" codeword designation, such as Fitter, Fishbed, Flanker, Flagon, Foxbat, Fresco, etc...the Faggot (MiG-15) would therefore not qualify...

Dre's been doing some excellent work on his MiG. My 1/32 MiG however is patiently waiting for me to finish up a Tamiya IL-2 first.

Looks like I need to update the badge ey'... if actually anyone wants to use it...
Yes, update the badge... we will use it...
Ruddratt, that's the Su-25UB, not the MiG you might be thinking of, but thanks!
Here's your updated badge, I didn't have the photoshop file of the previous one so I had to start from scratch.
Here's a smaller version
