I can neither confirm nor deny the existence of a secret Soviet aircraft factory in the Canadian Motherland....
On the bench: Airfix 1/72 Wildcat; Airfix 1/72 Vampire T11; Airfix 1/72 Fouga Magister
That's OK, we have all the evidence we need.....
it's hard to hide runways!
Porkbits- on those wingtip landing lights, does that kit come with any lamp housings? I had to use some nose gear landing lights from my previous Su-27 to fill in the housing behind the clear glass, other wise it would have been a glassed-over hole.

That could just be the drive-thru lineup at a Tim Hortons in the middle of nowhere, comrade...
Not a Hortons, I can tell by the lack of toques.
what are the rules?
snow + 4wd + escessive hp = :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x7egUIS70YM
eatthis, get a Russian jet which has a name beginning with the letter F and start building, the time limit has been removed, scale does not matter, and the desired AF also does not matter. Dre, I can tell you now Russian AF base in Ireland? I doubt it very much lol, not in a million years. Nice idea though.
oh cool got a 144 scale mig 31 to do
ps its fighters only then?
Technically yes, but I would not consider a Frogfoot to be a fighter so generally F names were for fighters but there's a Fitter as well so whatever you like but beginning with F, and a jet.
I'm curious what you got in mind eatthis?
Dean- a man can dream, can he not?
The Frogger is officially for the Ground Attack GB, but I started cross-posting it here to get more feedback- which has worked out well so far (he said modestly). I'll showboat that thing just about anywhere.
Eatthis- is that going to be an Atlantian MiG-31?
Dre--
Unfortunately, the Eduard kit does not come with lamp housings. My plan is to spray MM chrome in there and put on the lens cover. Seeing as how the only person who sees these models is me AND the lights are on the underside, I can live with that. :-)
After an almost-disaster today that caused me to strip half of the plane of paint and start over (seriously almost chucked the whole thing in the trash, thankfully calmer heads prevailed), I finally got some of the faded olive drab laid down. In some odd way I find that I can't proceed with a build until I have one major screw-up (usually paint related).
Anyway, starting to look like an Russian ground-pounding bird starting with "F!"
PB
Great looking Frogfoot there porkbits, if you see this post before you paint then get tinfoil, and use it as a lens instead I always do it looks far far better than paint ever could I also use it for the oleo section of the landing gear, or at least that's what I think it's called, the shiny chrome part. Also Dre, I only said it to eatthis as the letter F was designated to fighters so all the fighters names began with F and all bombers with a B but I imagine you already know but thought I'd say it anyway on the off chance. For that matter there is the Fiddler which does not exactly look like anything other than a light bomber.
Porkbits- what happened? I can't see anything wrong with that layer of paint... and I agree that a build can't move forward until there's at least one 'accident' to recover from. I might curse a model, I might get tempted to use a little percussive persuasion on a model but I've never trashed one outright (yet).
Thanks, Dean and Dre!
Dean, sounds like a good tip. How do you get the foil in the recess? Any special technique? I've never worked with foil.
Dre--That's the "after" pic. :-) It was before that was the mess--If you remember I had problems getting the primer coat down because I hadn't mixed the paint properly. I think that caused adhesion problems so bits started peeling off here and there. I tried to patch it, but like plugging the dam with your finger, just got worse and and worse so I decided to strip and start over on one side. I didn't bother stripping the other side, but I think will be OK as is.
just finished it lol
cs.finescale.com/.../153024.aspx
i started it last week so i dont thinks its eligable for this gb
Eatthis, how about another in a larger scale?
iv got a couple of su35s in 72 scale and maybe an su33 in 48 im tied down in gbs atm so il get 1 of them on the go when i get chance (the 72 scale would be atlantian though)
You have an SU-33 in 1/48? Please tell me more, as I want one!
Alright, I got off to such a slow start & drawn-out timeline that I'm posting up my pics here again.
The kit:
An Italeri re-pop of the Bilek sprues. Nice looking little kit.
OOB includes some very cool 4-colour camo patterns BUT.... I won't have to deal with masking multiple colours over the wing strakes, kit includes an option for a soviet machine that started out in 4-colour camo, then had everything but the nose over painted in light gray. Could give me a chance to try some panel pre-shading. And its a little easier...
Many parts removed from sprues & cleaned up, started on the weapons assembly....
The stores have since been cleaned up & prepped for paint, will add a pic here later.
Tail end of the stationary portion of the wing unit is THICK... unsure if I want to thin & extend... or lust leave as-is. Need to check some refs & decide if its worth the effort. This is the slide/jig that the wing "arms" slide into. It just gets trapped in there, a groove on each side + stoppers make sure it runs where it is supposed to. The solution? I rolled up a little paper towel & inserted under the slider to keep it at the right level, then glued the halves together.Nosecone and cockpit assembly in place. I glued all these bits in 1 at a time, then slapped the halves together to make sure nothing wiggled out of place. The cockpit colour is a little paler than I'd like BUT I'm going with an overall gray, should make it appear a little darker anyway. And YES, I just faked in some colour on the sideboards & IP - I keep thinking I should have found aftermarket from a Mig or something though.I had already painted & Future-d the natural metal areas of the swing-wings before trapping them. I'll slide them all the way back before painting, use the surrounding plastic to give an accurate mask...Cool shape to this thing.
1 of the few single engined planes that i class as a beast!
its an su27 variant but i get mixed up i need to go and check it lol
Looks good Vance, nice to finally see it, no rush now, and I'm glad you liked the Russian Army singing away lol.
Great start, Vance! Looks like a nice little kit.
The Su-22 *IS* a beast. Took me months to finish my 1/48 version.
Let me see your 1/48 version porkbits, I would like to get one myself.
Sure...it's the Eduard limited ed. re-pop of the OEZ/Kopro kit. Unfortunately it's out of production. :-(
Looks fantastic man, also I forgot to say I get the foil into the recesses with a cotton but, I put a drop of superglue in the moulded lens and stick it in, after its dried say a few minutes later and trim it with a new blade.
