Mirage IV in 1/72??
Posted by VanceCrozier on Monday, September 17, 2012 7:43 AM

I know there is an older Heller kit of teh French Mirage IV - has anyone seen any other options?

The Heller kit in 1/48!

Either way, they are both elderly kits - raised detail, not that much in the box & a few issues. I did the 1/72 a while back & wished that I'd gone 1/48th - 1/72 just doesn't seem to do the IV much justice at all.

There are (were) a few extras available for the 1/48 kit.

Soooo Heller, or Heller... ;) I'm not put off by the raised lines, especially if it's the only way to get the machine. More looking for options in case it gets hard to track one down. Wonder if any of the eastern-European companies have re-release it?

Hmmmm - in 1/48 also...  Hmm Big Smile

Did I mention that Heller did one?

I couldn't find a 1/72 at the time & went fleabay on it - it was warped & the decals had seen better days, but I see that both new 1/72 & 1/48 are currently available.

It's a georgeous bird even if it was a one way ticket & to my eye the best looking Mirage out there (well except possibly the 4000). Some links to get you in the mood Hmm, all 1/48 but interesting all the same;

I try to keep my jets in the 1/72 zone due to display space, but I wouldn't say no to a 1/48 version if there is a deal to be had.

Wow, that build at Modelversium is really sharp. I like the smaller scale, but I'd have a better shot at scratchbuilding details in 1/48. Decisions decisions. Need to do some searching when I'm clear of the office "internet fun-filter", see what I'm looking at $$-wise.

Nice! But the Mirage IV is a bigger/pointier twin-engine version of the III & V.  (Which I didn't realize until recently! Embarrassed)

Flagon (at 1,386 mph) would care, if it was trying to catch a Mirage IV traveling at 1,454 mph with a nuclear device strapped to it's belly.  Wink

Ah, the French strategic nuclear bomber!  Are these still in current use?

Nope, the bomber variants were retired in '96 with a handful of these machines converted to recon platforms, and those were phased out in 2005. Still an impressive aircraft though.

The IV's role switched to reconnaissance only in 1996 & continued until 2005 when the fleet was retired Sad

A bit slow off the mark it seems...............

Mirage IV orders a Flagon at the bar & waits patiently for Dagger to pick himself up from the floor while pondering where Dagger found the audacity to behave in such a disrespectful manner....

Thanks for that davros, I never think to check with Hannants on the other side of the pond. I'll have to take a look after work hours, the office webfilter screens most online sellers...
