CF18 nose colour - FS23163
Posted by gunner_chris on Thursday, September 27, 2012 12:34 PM

The instructions call for FS23163 for a shade of tan for the nose but when I google that number I get nothing.

Anyone know what shade or even a Tamiya equivalent would be?

Just as an example:

Years ago I used "Radome Tan" from Model Master.

I build 1/48 scale WW2 fighters.

Have fun.

Another tamiya no show :(

I'll be posting the progress in the gulf war GB.

I used enamel ModelMaster radome tan on my Hornet. I assume they still offer that.  I've had no problems with MM enamel and use it along with Humbrol enamel on all my builds.

Yes Model Master makes this color in Enamel and Acrylic. I don't know if Humbrol has it in their new Acrylic line up, but they do in the Enamel tins. XtraColour makes in in enamel, and most likely in acrlic. Gunze had it in the Aqueous line so most likely it is in the larger Mr Color lacquer line as well. In other words, just about every mainstream paint line makes this color- Radome Tan. But no, Tamiya does not make this color

Tamiya Buff XF-57 or Deck Tan XF-55 might be close.  I'm curious as to want scale you are in.  And is it a kit or a decal sheet for the Canadian Hornets?

I'm doing the 1/72 hobby craft kit. It has the 409 squadron from the gulf war decal sheet.

Both would need to be altered- Deck Tan is quite a bit on the grayish tone side and Buff needs more yellow tone and some lightening up.
