p-61 gunners window positioning question
Posted by kevin888 on Monday, August 26, 2013 12:33 AM

 Hello

I would like to position my p-61 with the gunner escape open, BUT do not know how to display it in that open position Confused  Does it open downward  like the r/o window? ( hinged  on crew nacelle)

I cannot find any photos to show it the open position!!!

(era: late  wwii, and PTO)

I think it's hinged at the top and in the middle.  I've seen a picture, but can't recall where.  You may want to poke around here:  napoleon130.tripod.com/.../index.html

I build 1/48 scale WW2 fighters.

Have fun.

Try going to the mid Atlantic air museum website, they are restoring a "B" model and they have documented the entire process, they will have the only flying P-61B in existence when it's finished, they've been working with Northrop very closely for accuracy. I think the site is www.maam.org or just google them, (they're close to me so I just drive up and get my own pics! Hope this helps

I'll vouch for that.  It hinged at the top but I don't know what the angle was when it was at its maximum "openness".  I'll check my references when I get home tonight.

I'm not sure if it was opened often.  Here's a picture where it would have been used, but it's been removed.

And more.

Just for grins this is always a source of information. However the instructor manages to get into the gunners seat every which way except from up top.
