Thanks Bish!  I agree about decals, it helps give more of an identity to the model.  I can't wait to see what you do with yours.

Indeed, she is looking really nice. Love that camo and I always like to see decals going on. I should be starting mine within the next week, so just in time for you finishing yours, but I have a bit to live up to.

Thanks Brandon! It was a pain to get it to look like this, but I'm pretty happy with it.

Wingnut, that sub looks great!  I'm not sure that I'd have the patience to pull it off though.

Well, that was a longer break between updates than I would have liked.  Between a sinus infection and getting things ready to start teaching again my time at the bench was pretty limited.  I got the decals on, which didn't take too long as there aren't that many markings.  It took me a little while, but I finally finished the panel line wash.  I used acrylic craft paints, and combined burnt umber with black.

Next is the landing gear and then the fiddly bits.  I seem to have accidentally thrown my B sprue away which had a couple of small antennae on it, but I don't think it will be too hard to scratchbuild a couple of replacements.

That was a good call. Using that idea as a reference i did it on a 1/35 scale midget sub. The number of "blobs" I used must be what he used on just the tail. And this was a big PITA. The only thing I will say is it does pay off in the end. But when you factor in hair loss it makes you think twice.

Thank you cnq. Yours looks great! I tried a squiggle pattern too, but for some reason my airbrush wouldn't cooperate.

Thanks for the comment wing_nut! I saw that article when I was doing my research and immediatly thought "nope!" The more I look at it the more I like it.

I was to get decals on last week before I went on vacation, but haven't had a chance to take pictures.  Hopefully I'll get a chance to do a wash for the panel lines and get some pictures up by the end of the week.

Ye, I never really fancied that idea. I know this hobby requires patience, but I would like to make a bit of a dent in the stash before I die. I have 4 of those Dragon 72nd kits, doing that is a years worth of model building.

I think the camo is outstanding.  i think your over spray plan is a solid one.  bringing down the contrast will give it an illusion of softness tat will look great.

And I'll wager it was a heck of a lot easier then this...

The painting looks good. This is a difficult painting job. I had a hard time to do mine as well ( Revell 1/32 kit) and practiced a lot on card board. Here is mine which I built ~ 2 years ago. It's all done free hand airbrush.

Thank you all very much.  There are not many decals for this, so I'm hoping to get those finished up by the end of the week.

Looks pretty darn good to me. I think the spots were field applied anyways so I would worry about. That does it, off to ebay to find one of these bsd boys...

Silentbob, I know I saw you on the GB earlier, but while I'm here I'll add my 2 cents...I think it's just fine really.  The camo may be sharper than you're looking for but I think it's fantastic still.  Tedious isn't doing justice to the time I'm guessing it took to cut out all those tiny bits. =]  I'd say it probably borders more on masochism!  Can't wait to see the rest of her come together.  =]

If the Nationals would ever reach the north west the modeling world will get to see on display only the super highly detail 1/32 scale HE-219  Which I also have.

Thank you very much.  As I was getting it built up I kept going back and forth on how I was going to paint it.  I thought about misting some 76 over it to tie it together, but I figure with as much trouble I had with it I'm going to leave good enough alone.  I hope to get the glosscoat on today and decals on soon.

A+ from me on the paint job, Bob. Looks great.

I'd be afraid to even try it.

Man that looks good. Regardless of how it's done, it looks plenty hard. You really pulled off a smoken nice camo scheme there. Great work. That scheme scares the crud out of me to attempt.

Quote: But one thing i am going to try is to mist a very thin coat of the light blue over the mottleing to lighten it and blend it in a bit.

This works really good and I've had great results with it.

Your bird looks totally awesome  SB!!!!

You're quite welcome SB,

I like you am going to do a much simpler build next myself, and on a better kit I might add.  Although my Monogram B-26 doesn't have a complicated paint job, the kit itself is giving me a real headache.  The fits are very bad and every kit part i install, I hafta fix, so it's taking me way too long to complete.

Well done on this tedious paint job.  Your efforts have ultimately paid off to a stunning build.

Thanks Dave, it was a bit tedious. I tried to do a different scheme when I messed up the first time and sprayed the top and sides grauviolette and then attempted to do a squiggle patter in lichtblau, but that looked even worse. I'm pretty happy with how it looks now, especially with all of the other problems I had.

Looks real good from here silentbob! That scheme can't be easy to do no matter how blended the splotches are. That grauviolett pattern looks very tedious and I think you pulled it off well.

I ran across a thread/blog somewhere a few years ago where the author attempted his 219 scheme thus: he sprayed the entire plane grauviolett, then rolled dozens of tiny tape balls and stuck them over the whole upper half of the fuselage and on top of the wings. He then sprayed the entire plane lichtblau. When he removed the tape balls the grauviolett splotches looked convincing and appeared to have a soft edge, at least from the pics I saw. Anyway, I say a job well done on your efforts Yes
