Very well done Steve. Hard to believe it's a 1950's mold. The paint scheme is very interesting. Beer

MC,

Very nicely done.  All you need is Moritz (his dog) to complete the picture.  Big Smile

I finally completed the Baron's Dr-1. The kit was what you would expect from an old Revell mold, with a little PE added. My figure painting skill obviously needs a little work.

Thanks PJ,

I what I did is a base of Olive and dry brushing field green over that. I then wet that brush with thinner and drew the brush along the paint to tone down the edges. I looks similar to the picture I have of Richthofen's mount, although I could probably add some additional dark green. I really like the look of the paint jobs on your link and turns out it's pretty easy to achieve.

Steve

I did my paint as they did it in the Fokker factory. I sprayed Humbrol Linen and let it cure for a few days then I dry brushed at the approximate angles with olive green paint. I apologize for not posting this link sooner. During my research I found pictures of the process and lots of info here:

Your scheme looks preety good and more interesting than either solid red or solid green.

Cajun

Your crimson scheme looks real good, specially the weathering.

Oh My, MC that's looking really good !  The old WW1 planes are a work of art in themselves and you nailed this one. Mmm-Mmm-Mmm

I really really like this build. I love the really old planes. I think I'll locate one of those Dragon kits for this one and add it to the stash. Nicely done.

Here is mine I jut finished a couple weeks back

Great red, what paint did you use? The weathering along the ribs looks great, I hope I can get mine to look as good as yours and PJ's

I did the usual preshade that you would do on a WW2 plane. Primered and sparyed black lines.  for red I used Tamiya XF-7.

It really came out better than I thought it would.

For weathering I used really thinned Tamiya Flat Black and sprayed for 2 feet away lol... somehow I got kinda lucky with it.  in natural light it looks amazing..... in my room it looks almost black lol

I think I got it. Here is the Dr-1 in its paint. I still need to finish the guns and a few other tough ups such as the skids on the wing tips ETC.

I will probably put this aside for a day or two while I try to finish two ther builds.

Thanks Brandon,

The green stripping is going to be the trick. I like the way PJ did his.

PJ,

Did you dry brush the off color green to get the effect (either light green over dark or vice versa)? I am going to try to dry brush dark over light to get the streaking effect.

Steve, I responded to the paint scheme but it's not showing up here. Odd. Anyway, again I say I like the scheme as it is more interesting than all red. It really looks like a neat kit and you are making it look fantastic.

Thanks Gary, The blue doesn’t look right. I used RLM 78, it was the only "sky blue" I had in the paint drawer. I'm not sure we have exact records of Richthofen's colors anyway, so for all I know, it's on the mark.
At least, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

Here’s where I am after an evening of painting. The August 1917 Jasta 11 colors, just before Richthofen went all red in September.

Here's the progress tonight. I was gone the Tacoma and returned late last night so I didn't get much done. Anyway it is ready for painting.

I will be painting it in Jasta 11 1917 colors.
