I just finished my first plane . P-40e I really like it . I only done Helicopters . Which I have one, I'm working on right at this moment . Still little burnt out to restart it .
So I stop by my LHS pick up a P-51D mustang 1/48 scale . Not sure what design this will be . Maybe whats on the front of the box .
Tonight i took the parts out and soaked them in warm dish liq. water . Then rinsed off . This is my normal start build .
I read some forums about the canopy . I'm going to polish the canopy this round . Then no dip in future . I will see if this helps
I tried bare metal foil on one project . The foil was so sticky , I could not get it off with out problems . I really like this way , but my foil just way to sticky
I really want this a nice clean clean build for once ..
Enjoy
Rick

I have some last photos of the pilot and interior . I have glued the fuselage together . The camera batteries went dead on me ..
I have the fuselage glued together . Sanded the seam line , then applied some badger black primer ..
Rick,
Your work looks great so far! I'll be following along because this kit is on my soon to buy list.
Best wishes,
Gary
Well I did not like the 50 cal. guns barrels on this plane . So I sanded down the supposed to be guns barrels . I installed only the 50 cal. barrels ..
No photos before I sanded the barrels off .. Sorry
I have the wings glued to the fuselage . That be it for the weekend
I have the wings ,muffler and engine cover installed .

lawdog114I do the same to my Tamiya Mustang fifties. They are horrible on this kit. Which subject are you going to do?
Not sure yet .. I like them all . The decals are very nice ..
I primed and sprayed a highly thin layer on Tamiya black mixed with tamiya clear . This will be my base for Alclad .
I need to finish up on some smaller parts while this completely cures out
Looking real good so far Rick! That pilot was well painted too. Great job there on an item that's usually difficult to treat right. =] The Tamiya mustang is a dream to build. What's the paint scheme going to look like?

That would be 3rd down plane
Looks really good so far. The Alclad is almost foolproof, you just have to get the undercoat perfect, I think you're all set. Although the black does look very sleek and sinister, sometimes I'm almost tempted to just leave the plane in the black!
Thanks
This weekend I hope to have Alclad down , then paint the wings
I will see
I am watching this one with great interest and you're doing a very good job. I am almost at this stage with my F-86 . Interesting that you used the clear/black combination for the Alclad undercoat, can't wait to see how this comes out.
I'm finally retired. Now time I got, money I don't.
Looking good Rick. Now let's see the Alclad.
Marc
I found out , the body will be Alclad . The wings I need to silver paint .
Well see how this comes out
I Painted the wings Tamiya Chrome silver ..Came out looking very good
I did have to respray some light primer over couple areas .Just Did not look right . I hear alclad will show issues . Fixed now
I also received a new air tip nozzzle for my Grex airbrush called Air Spray .OMG I love it for bigger area paint jobs .Highly recommend for anyone using GREX airbrush ,Photo below
