TY for the info Toshi. I will definately pick up the CA as I have a Hobby Lobby near me.  it's ironic that you live near Cleveland and purchase stuff from Florida where I live now and used to live in Cleveland.

Yes, it is ironic that I would be making my purchases via Florida.  As for the information, no need to thank me.  It's what we are here for, to help our FSM brothers and sisters in anyway we can.  As always Mr. Jay Jay, it's my pleasure!

Great job on the Corsair Toshi.  you have come a long way in your skills.  The Walker Bulldog is a fun kit, I built mine in a weekend and I am far from ever building much armor. Hope to see you build a battleship. Scott

I'm looking forward to this very first ship build here!  Then I'll check on the reservations.

Check out my USS Arizona build "under-ships".  I'm a quarter ways there.  I decided to do this in honor of my father and my great grandmother who was shot at by the Japanese Imperial Navy Zeros during the Pearl Harbor Attack.  They were shopping for their Sunday morning groceries at the time of the attack.  If my dad got hit, there would be no Toshi at all.  WOW!

WOW Toshi you've done a wonderfully gorgeous build !

Question;  how did you attach the antenae and what did you use for the lines, it looks so life -like with no glue blobs anywhere?

Maybe Mrs. santa will get me a 1/32 for Christmas lol

Thank you so much for your support.  I so enjoy our conversations! As for my antennae I used a product called EZ-Line.  It was through eBay.  You can purchase this from Bobe's Hobby House.

2 East Nine Mile Road Pensacola, FL 32534

850-433-2187

www.bobeshobbyhouse.com

It can stretch up to 700 times it's actual length, and works really well with CA.  The EZ-Line I purchased is the one made for 1:48 kits.  EZ-Line also comes in 1:72 up to 1:32, if my memory serves me right.  LOL!

The CA I used is Extreme Power.  You can purchase these from Hobby Lobby.  I purchased the Thick and Thin.  Make sure you buy the glueing tips.

She looks great Toshi, congrads!!!

As to the airbrush, it's much like your music, the only way to master it is to practice, practice, and practice. The nice thing about modeling here is you can always paint over it if you don't like the results.

And very cool Arizona and M41, those should be fun to build, the 1/32nd Mosquito though I'd be rather intimidated!

Thank you Gamera.  Thank you for the read and reply as well.

Toshi - A great job you did, building this kit of such a fine old war bird as the Corsair. Super nice paint application, you have really advanced your airbrushing skills.

Enjoy the tank and Arizona builds, we'll all watch to see them on the "assembly line." Thanks for all the posts and photos.

A very Merry Christmas and the best of New Years to you and your family.

In memory of December 7 Mrs. Toshi recommended the Revell 1:426 USS Arizona.  Especially so since we were both born in Honolulu, Hawaii.  I also received as a gift from Mrs. Toshi a Tamiya 1:35 M41 US Tank Walker Bulldog.  I hope everyone enjoys my next set of builds.  Thank you very much and have a nice Christmas!

To my fellow forum members,

I've finally completed the Chance/Vought F4U-1 Corsair.  As with the majority of Tamiya model kits, this one supersedes most of the 1:32 products.  I'm up for the challenge in not only purchasing but building in it's proper context.  At the very near future, I have been given the; "Go ahead" from Mrs. Toshi, I will purchase and build the 1:32 Tamiya  "Mossie"!

As for this kit, the spruce were nicely placed individually in a stapled plastic bag.  Even her massive amount of instructions followed by the biggest question all modelers have is; "Where in the world do I put this?

My sister in law purchased a stand for me to display my models.  Even Mrs. Toshi said that she will move out of the den to give room to all my model kits.  Currently, I'm ecstatic!

Mrs. Toshi and I went on an excursion to where else?  Hobby Lobby!  Upon our arrival, Mrs. Toshi asked if I wanted the Iwata Eclipse, to which I've declined on several occasions.  Personally, I need to hone my skill in the airbrushing technique.  Once I feel comfortable, I told Mrs. I will then take it to the next level.  For your viewing, I have taken several shots, I hope and wish every one a wonderful Christmas.

Toshi, the more I watch you progress, the more I hope the cat jumps up and squashes my current 1/32 Corsair I have on the shelf so that I will have room and an excuse to build this kit.  You really are doing a great, detailed review of it.

Toshi, The reason you are a fan of the Corsair is the same reason its my favorite WW2 plane - the TV show. Hahaha. It made such an indelible mark on me.

I think that show brought the biggest inspiration and recognition to the venerable F4U Corsair!  Thanks for the read and reply.

I am loving this.  Did I mention this happens to be my favorite WW2 plane?

No allan, this is the first time you've mentioned this.  I too am a huge rabid fan of this aircraft.  I became enthralled when I saw the TV show, "The Black Sheep Squadron" or Baa Baa Black Sheep.  It was a show based on VMF-214.  Robert Conrad played the part of "Pappy".  Matter of fact, "Pappy" did a few cameos as well as being a consultant for the show.

Thanks for always being there for me on my threads.  I really appreciate it!

And yeah, those pre-cut masks are expensive but they're worth every penny!

Well, yeah, its quite far out.  Check this out, they put the gull wings upside down:

At least the masks have lines you can follow. And yout did fine.  Beats the old method of putting Frisket or masking tape over the canopy and trying to cut out the frames.  I have done that for too many years and am now willing to pay for the die cut masks.

LOL!  So do I.  I've noticed that Trumpeters 1:32 kits has the same non-diecut masks as well.

I agree, that was tedious. The good news was though that once cut they fit great. Do a cracker jack job here Toshi.

This process is very tedious.  These canopy maskings on all of the 1:32 series Tamiya aircraft are not precut.  You must cut these out yourselves.  This took most of my day, I just don't have steady hands anymore.

Looking very good . Hows the manual . What I seen , they look awesome Rick

Thank you sir!  The manual is extremely well detatailed and planned out.  You must choose prior to assembly one of the three types of Corsairs you plan on building as there are small differentiations on each Corsair.  Thank you for the read and reply.

Yes, its RC, and its a baby compared to the 1/4 scale and 1/3 scale monsters most guys build. I am limited with space, so 1/8 is the largest I go. It looks like your Tamiya model is a scale detailers dream kit.  Can't wait to see more.Geeked

Yes, there's lots of detail on these 1:32 Tamiya kits.  I'm at the stage of where the first coat will be sprayed on either later today or this evening.  Photos to folllow!  Thanks for the read and reply.

Toshi, looks great, so much like a full size build.  I really like the detail in your kit. I know about those gull wings, they are a buggar, especially building them out of wood.  Attached is my 1/8 scale Corsair.  This explains why I am out of room for another one even in 1/32.  My ceilings are only 5'-10" high.

Thank you sir!  Man that's one monstrocity of a Corsair.  Is that a RC?

Very nice work on the cockpit here too Toshi! Although after the 'Silver Surfer' the Corsair needs a name too- maybe 'Blue Bullet???'

Sorry to hear about you dropping your older Corsair, I know how that feels, I dropped a 1/35th Jadgpanzer IV on the basement concrete floor a few years ago when airbrushing her. And nice of you to donate your builds to different people, I hope they have a good home. I figure all mine will end up in a dumpster when I go belly up.

PS: I went ahead and ordered the Tamiya A6M 51 Zero from HLJ. Of course it was backordered, hopefully it will be here in time for a little Christmas present to myself.

Blue Bullett it is!  LOL!  Nice cool name.  Yes, I was really dizzy that day and Mrs. Toshi told me to lay down, of course I did not listen to her!  Hence the disaster that I caused.

You will not be disappointed with the Zero build.  It is exceptional beyond belief.  You will be pleasantly surprised.

Toshi, your are making that cockpit look easy. In fact, I now want to build one of the Tamiya 1/32 kits. Problem is, I need another 1/32 Corsair like I need a second nose. I have zero place to put one. But it looks so nicely engineered.

Thank you scottrc, I try to do my best.  You could always hang one on the ceiling.  LOL!

To my fellow forum members,

The cockpit is slowly taking shape.  This time around, I'm thinking of a possible clean build in-flight on the Tamiya stand, just like my previous build, the P-51 Silver Edition "Silver Surfer".  But we shall see.  Until then I only have a very, very small progress report below.

I've been giving my nephew a couple of planes (P-47 & F6F) he like it so much, he want's to build one.  I told his mom to by a snaptite. A few more went to my therapists as a thank you.  I'll be donating a small batch of models to the local VFW.  I'm sure they'll enjoy it.

Good for you!

I was thinking of getting another Tamiya 1:32 Corsair so that I can display this build in flight and the other one with wings folded.  Thanks for the visit.

Hey Mike, thanks for the help, I'd already packed up my laptop when Toshi asked the question and didn't want to pull it back out.

Yeah, S&H from HLJ I'd not noticed being any really higher than S&H than most US/Canada based companies. The one exception was ordering a off-brand tank kit in a truely gigantic box, way bigger than a 1/32th aircraft even, we're talking about two and half FEET by two feet in size, dunno why they needed such a large box, but anyway I was charged an arm and a leg S&H. Other than that even fairly large boxes I get reasonable S&H rates.

Only thing to watch for as Mike said is the wait sometimes. If their website states 'In Stock' they'll ship it right away. If it says 'Out of Stock' or 'Backordered' they have to order more from the company and it can take a month or more. They do have a 'private warehouse' now though where you can tell them to save stuff and ship it all at one time rather than paying S&H on a dozen small items.

Thank you for the information!

Toshi,

My memory is not certain about this but, FWIW, I've purchased a few items from HLJ over the last few years and, even with the shipping costs, their price is generally lower than all the other model retailers that I've tried. Sometimes it just takes a while for the shipping. If you're not in a hurry you might check out their web site .... but, alas, you always seem to be in a hurry LOL! (I wish I could build aircraft models with half the expertise you deliver in your ridiculously quickly completed kits!!)

Mike

I will look into HLJ website right now!  I'm excited.  1943Mike, thank you for the tips and visits, especially the praise and kind words.

It's gonna take a hanger to store all these big kits. The Corsair is my all time Fave bird.

BK

To BrandonK, I want to personally thank you for being there for my builds and giving me the support I needed.  It's really directed me to move forward.

With that being said, I've donated a couple of models to my nephew of which whom now is interested in models.  I told him that I'll help him build anything he wants.  I told his mom to get a snaptite kit.  So far, he now owns my Monogram P-47 Thunderbolt and a F6F Hellcat.

I've also given as a thank you to my psychiatrist, a Monogram P-38 Lightning.  I plan to give my speech, cognitive, memory, therapist at MENTIS my Trumpeter 1:32 Avenger.  Then a few will go to my local VFW.

The Corsair is also my all time favorite!  The TV Show "Baa Baa Black Sheep" based on Major Greg "Pappy" Boyington and his squadron, VMF-214 was the catalyst that made me a rabid fan of the gullwing bird.  This is my sixth Corsair build.  I've made three Monogram F4U's, one "Baa Baa Black Sheep" Revell Corsair at 8 years old and the Tamiya 1:32 and now this Tamiya 1:32.  Most of these builds have foldable wings.  A few of them broke off and I've had to utilize a popstick wooden stick that looks like a tongue depressor to turn it into a permanatly fixed wing aircraft.  LOL!

Very cool Toshi, you're going to have your own 1/32nd air force!

BTW: You might want to check HobbyLink Japan for the 1/32nd Tamiya kits, I don't see the Corsair listed but they have the Zero for sixty bucks US which I about the cheapest I've seen it anywhere.

The only issue I have with that is the tarrif tax needed.  I don't know how much that costs.  I'd hate to pay $60.00 with a $50.00 tariff tax.  Unless you know something I don't?  LMK more about this tax issue.  Thank you in advance.  Thanks for the visit!

Toshi

To my fellow forum members,

Six months ago, I made this exact model kit.  I ended up falling and dropping the Corsair.  Broken wings with broken landing gears was the outcome.  I hope to build another F4U-1 with some improvements with a total of eight months under my belt.

Still, I have much more to learn and hone my skills.  My wish is to create a Corsair with little to no errors.  Wish me luck!

Toshi

Depending on the rate of foreign exchange, 11100 yen equals to approximately $90.00 to $96.00.  I paid a total of $95.00 including S&H.  Most of this kits on eBay are averaging $130.00 to $150.00.  Way too much in my humble opinion.

The Japanese Katakana label above says Edobashi Kamera.  Phonetically its (Adoe Bashee Camera).  Edo is the ancient name for the capital of Japan, Tokyo.  Ultimately this translates to "Tokyo Camera".
