Alway loved Habu, they were next door to us at Beale AFB just out of Marysville, CA when I was working B-52G's there in '73.  Pretty amazing what Kelly and crew put together with pencil, paper, sliderules and very limited computing power.  What they had for computer then would probably fit on one chip with enough room left over for a 3rd generation smart phone today.  And had to make most of the tools and figure out how to work with the materials for her.

Have seen a lot of them in flight, but never with the drone.  Boeing has one of the trainers (with the hump) in the collection at Boeing.Field in south Seattle/Tukwilla.

Night takeoffs were a trip and a hallf back then when the whole flightline would go to black out conditions...........

Was a riot to watch a tanker scramble off the ground and a half hour later the SR roll out and leisurely hit the air.  Leak fuel like a sieve until they heat up and self seal; SR is in the refuel track over Lake Tahoe going where is my tanker at, hope he gets here soon...........

Your personal experience with the "Habu" (A name for a Japanese venomnous snake in Okinawa), sounds absolutely amazing.  Thank you so much for sharing your experiences as well as your knowledge of this legendary aircraft.  Thank you for the read and reply!

This should be interesting. I don't think I have seen the Revell kit built before, its usually the Italeri.

As I never have seen a kit nor a model of the SR-71, I'm interested to see how this comes out as well.  Thanks for visiting Bish!

We have not had any on here for a while. There used to be a member who used to work on these and had some great advice on painting them. Black is not as wasy to do as one might think. Pity he does not sem to have been on in a while.

Yes, black can be a difficult color to blend in and lightly weather.  Hopefully I can build this kit and paint it without any issues.  Thanks for the visit!

I have this kit in Testors 1/48. It's nearly 3 ft long. I am hoping to do it this next year. I'm curious how this one you're doing will turn out. You're probably already done before I get this typed out. Cool

BK

OMG!  3' long?  This ones 18 1/2".  The wing span on yours must be close to 2' long?  Wow, that's a huge Blackbird!  Good luck on that, are you posting this build?  I'll definately follow.

So far there's no issues right now, it seems very straight forward.  Thanks for the visit.

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

Completed Revell 1:72 SR-71 Blackbird
Posted by Toshi on Monday, December 14, 2015 12:21 PM

To my fellow forum members,

I have been at the Ship and Armour Forums.  Building the Revell 1:426 USS Arizona in memory of December 7, especially coming from Hawaii was a first for me.  I've never built a ship before.  The other build was a Tamiya 1:35 M41 Walker Bulldog.  That was a especially fun build and I felt really good about that kit.

Never have I seen a kit of the Revell SR-71 let alone a drone pod that rides at the top of the Blackbird.  I quickly picked it up at Michaels for 50% off and Mrs. Toshi purchased the Revell SBD Dauntless with the same discount.  I forgot to tell her that I have a Trumpeter 1:32 SBD Dauntless "Clear Edition" on it's way from Shanghai, China but that's fine.  You know me, I'll build both of them back to back.

Until then, please see the WIP SR-71 assembly, any questions and or comments good or bad is highly recommended, I can only learn from you all and my continued passion for this hobby.

Toshi

Wow, not many parts to this kit!
