Hello all,
I was still waiting for the 2 part resin to dry, so I broke down and started to clean it off. I will not use the "Amazing Clear Cast" again. It's amazing alright, amazing I didn't throw the whole thing out the window.

Anyway, I cleaned off the stuff off with lacquer thinner. What an incredible mess but things are looking better now. It was also amazing I didn't damage the model. I was able to get the polyester resin I like so as soon as everything settles out, I will go ahead and pour the last layer again.
I was able to save the surf though.

OK all, I'm done messin with this and I'm calling it done.
Like I said earlier, the resin technique will work well as long as you don't use "Amazing Cast" two part resin. I used the "Clear Cast Polyester Resin" as the last pour and was happy with the results. The only thing I'm not happy with is that I had to remove the amazing cast because it didn't dry and that caused some blemishes under the top layer. I will try it again with the lessons learned under my belt.

The Hasegawa Rufe was a simple nice build. I sprayed aluminum as a base and then went over that with a spray of AK Interactive Worn Effects which sprayed straight from the bottle without any problems. I finished that up with the exterior color and it was a simple matter of "washing" the exterior paint off and in some instances I used tape to pull it off.

I hope you enjoy it and as usual comments and critiques are welcome.

Steve

Outstanding job Steve

Everything looks so great...the weathered paint job, the water, the beach and how detailed it looks. Bravo Sir, Bravo!

You did a great job on a authentic build for the diorama.  A great job indeed!

Great job! The chipped paint looks perfect and the water looks really good to me.

Super looking model!! The foam on the surf looks like the real thing, the weathering on the plane looks as though touch-up paint was not a Japanese priority at that time (which it probably wasn't?) and the entire diorama is superb!

I have a question though - why aren't the prop and spinner weathered as well? Perhaps that's because they're bare metal to begin with? Just curious.

Thanks guys.

Mike,
You are correct sir, the prop blades face and spinner are bare aluminum while the back was painted flat black. The pictures don’t show it well, but the flat black on the back of the prop blades are chipped.

Fantastic Steve! I don't know how you find the time. =]  I look forward to the day I get to try my hand at this.  The white wave crests on the beach were done how exactly?  Is it all the same stuff or another compound added and manipulated?

Thanks Brit,

The whitecaps and sea foam was made with cotton applied with acrylic varnish.
