Hi Toshi,

You have downsized to a 1/48 scale eh?   I do a lot of brush painting because I like to do it more then I like cleaning an airbrush. Think of it like a 3D painting and then use the same techniques an artist will use for softening and blending the colors.  Most important is to make sure the paint is not to thick, or not too thin, and to use a good, flat brush that will stay loaded up with paint, and use light strokes to thin out and prevent those dreaded stroke marks.

You may want to soften your lines between the dark and light colors by mixing the lighter color with a tad of the darker to make a balance tone and using a very soft, broad, flat brush, dry brush along the edge and soften it up so it blends.  It takes some practice but it is a fun excersize.  Again, like doing a 3d painting.

Now, like if you airbrushed it, give it some washes of light gray on the light colors and black/brown over the dark colors, again to soften up the tone.  Weather if you want. Then follow up with your final clear coat.   You did a cool job on the 109, and those same techniques would look great on this project as well.  I wish I could include pictures but my Photobucket account has gone kaput and I'm still working at getting it fixed.   Scott

It's looking great Toshi, really nice. I have this kit on my shelf, perhaps one day I will pull it down and have at it.

Thank you sir.  I'd love for you to post your build.  That would be great!  I can't wait.  Thank you for the read and reply.

Toshi

This is my kit. Do you know if Verlinden or any other company make update set for this bird?

 photo kingfisher 2.jpg

Jay Jay and BrandonK might have some information regarding any AM parts.  I saw some on eBay.  Try them out.  It's hard to find AM for this kit, you might have to settle with just the PE like I did that comes with the model.  Good luck sir.

Toshi

Thanks Toshi,

eBay, AM decals, but that was about it.

Your welcome, as I thought.  Still, good luck on your build.

And the Toshi modeling machine keep grinding away.

This time, the modeling machine has slowed down due to hand brushing the Kingfisher.  I thought about doing something different for a change.  Tell me what you think.

This sounds like a kit for someone with a good amount of scratch building skills since there isn't much AM for it.

Is there any paint on it yet, Toshi?  ;)  lol

Yes, there is paint on it now.  I did the whole thing with a brush.  Tell me what you think and what I can improve on.  This is the first time I brushed an entire kit.

Please don't laugh.  This was all done with free hand brush work.  I figured to try something a bit different.  I still need to clean a few things up.  My next process is to gloss coat the Kingfisher by brush, decals, weather by brush, then seal with a flat coat by brush.

http://www.ebay.com/usr/modelfactory123?_trksid=p2047675.l2559

Here's a Kitty Hawk Kingfisher available now for $67.00.  There's a shipping charge, it's from Hong Kong.  There's a few more available, one from the US for $76.00 with a $18.00 shipping charge.  All on eBay, anyone in the market for one should check it out now since their out of stock from the LHS.

Just an FYI, you can find anything and everything on eBay, I have yet to get bad service and I've been doing business with eBay and PayPal for over ten years.

They pop up on eBay often.  You can normally score them for around the $10 mark.  Picked mine up for $5.99 no bids a year or so ago

How available is that kit?  Is it pretty hard to find today?

There are two exact kits like this on eBay.  I also have seen two without the PE.  I'd go ahead and make the purchase now as they seem to be scarce.  I hope this helps and good luck.  Thanks for inquiring.

"slowly" ??? You gotta be kidding! In addition to being a fine model builder you must be in the running for the quickest.

Your work is always a pleasure to view and I like your choice of kits.

MIke

LOL!  Thank you sir, Mrs. Toshi helps me pick which next kit I should build.  We've already (She) ordered a Trumpeter 1:32 Stuka for my next build via eBay.  Thanks for visiting.

Jay Jay

BrandonK,

I finaly got my 1/48 OS2U cockpit set from Lone Star after 6 weeks and i am very disapointed in it.  This was the second time I ordered it as the 1st set "got lost in the mail" and my money was refunded ( less shipping ).  My set is just terribly cast and the front side walls don't fit at all.  It looks like they are 1/32 scale instead of the 1/48 I ordered.  Mike West said that he's been having family health issues so the delay in shipping is understandable ,but there's no excuse for poor workmanship in my book. The trouble is, Lone Star is the only source for the Kingfisher cockpit set. I did find a Cutting Edge one on Ebay but the idiot wants $95 for it since the Cutting Edge company is no longer in business.

I put my Kingfisher on the shelf of doom because there's so much glass to this kit, the cockpit/back seater area is the main focal point of the model and I wanted to make sure that area looked real good. I think I'll wait for the 1/32 scale kit to come out that I've been hearing about.

Shes already out!  I've had mine for a month already

Hi Toshi !

Although you may feel as if this is a big project , it isn't . I don't usually build planes , I use them as a relaxer between ship work . This one's a jewel and if you take your time the end result will be rewarding .

I have All the Monogram originals built and these just take it up a few notches .Hey , we have faith in you !  Tanker - Builder
