Jay Jay

This kit is coming along beautifully in your hands Toshi and that engine...WOW.

Thanks Jay Jay.  The engine was one of the components that went together effortlessly.  This is a great kit.  Thanks for the visit.

Our Sunday plan was to go out and visit China town and have some dim sum.  Unfortunately, Mrs. Toshi is not feeling good so it's a stay home Sunday for us.  I love to stay at home on Sunday's as I get to diligently work on my Fw 190.  Here is this afternoons progress.

Some nice work on the paint job there.

I have a few spots that needs to be cleaned up here and there.  Other than those errors, I think the 190 should be closing up soon.  Thanks for the follow and replie.

Toshi,

I'm always in awe of your committed, insanely quick builds.

Since I'm now working on my 1/48 Fock Wulf F-8 and am at the stage where I'm painting - how do you get the mottled look? I was planning on using my finest needled air brush - my Iwata HP-C Plus - and just getting close to the fuselage in my paint booth and trying to do some "splotches". Is that the way it's supposed to be done? I have no clue. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

To 1943Mike,

I use a NEO Iwata that has a .35 needle as well as a .35 nozzle.  I dial the compressor down to somewhere at or around 8 to 10 PSI.  That means your paint must be diluted down drastically to almost a water type consistency.

To do mottleing you can get as close as you can without creating the spider look.  If that starts to happen your air pressure is too high and or the trigger is being pulled back too much.  Practice on some plastic first.  Then you'll get the exact feel for it.

Once you feel comfortable, go ahead and start to mottle the F-8.  If you make a mistake, don't worry.  You can always repaint the area and redo the mottle  until you are happy with our efforts.

As for the splotches as you so describe, I also add into some really small squiggly mini snake looking lines.  Similar to a mini worm to break up the basic mottle sceme.  I hope this helps, if you have any more questions I am more than happy to answer any and or all your questions to rhe best of my abilities.

Toshi

P.S. By the way, your high end Iwata AB is more than capable to be able to do the job at even a higher level than my made for Iwara NEO.  Good luck sir!

Dang Toshi! Looks like you turned out another good lookin' aircraft. I'm a big Fw190 fan especially the D and Ta-152 line up and can look at these birds all day long and never get tired of it. Good job on the paint and weathering bud.

I've got Trumpeters 1/24 scale Fw190 D-9 in the stash and hope to build it someday.

That means you're were a good boy!  LOL!  I love the NEO Iwata Gravity Feed AB.  It's built like a tank and I'm shocked at how simple the design is.  With that being said, Mrs. Toshi also purchased a NEO Iwata TRN1 Gravity Feed Pistol Trigger Grip AB.  I actually like the pistol trigger grip TRN1.  It gives me greater control.

Both of these AB were purchased at Hobby Lobby with the 40% discount.  Mrs. Toshi wanted to buy me a Iwata gravity feed Eclipse.  I declined that offer as I'm still learning how to use a AB.  Maybe in a few more months I'll take her up on the Iwata Eclipse purchase.

Of course I would be ecstatic if I got the pro series top of the line Iwata Custom Micron AB.  I'd even be happy with a Harder and Steenbeck AB as well.  One can at the very least dream on something like this.  It's the price point of these high end AB that tells me not to purchase such a expensive AB.  Both of my NEO Iwata AB continues to deliver ease of use and provides me with a simple design capable of the high end AB mentioned above.  Thanks for the read and reply.
