This is the current status on the P-39.  It has been primered, lightly sanded down, and has the underside painted.  I'll be AB the main part of the Airacobra in olive drab.  While the P-39 dries, I will take that opportunity to work on the landing gear.  Thank you forum members for all your read and replies.

The P-39 could have been a real winner of an aircraft if certain changes had been made as planned.As it was it did prove to be an excellent ground attack aircraft with the USSR. Like another ill fated aircraft in US service (the Brewster Buffalo) it finally found success with a foreign power.

Toshi, I noticed your mention of Detail & Scale books.  You can find them for free at Boxartden.com.  Nice work on the P-39.  One mention though, on the interior color after examining the remains of several P-39's at the Pioneer Park air museum in Fairbanks, the interior is a very dark green like Bronze green which I think was known as Bell green.

To my fellow forum members,

This is my very first build of a Airacobra and I'm enjoying every minute of it.  I love the concept of the P-39 with a mid engine mount followed by a cannon in the nose.  Below is just a dry fitting.  As my dad used to say; "Measure twice, cut once".

I'm so impressed with the Kitty Hawk brand in that Mrs. Toshi ordered a Bronco of the Kitty Hawk brand.  Mrs. Toshi likes the unique look of the Bronco, I should have the Bronco delivered no later than next week Wednesday.  I look forward to that build.  Until then here is where I'm at with the P-39 Airacobra.  Thank you forum members for your support in my projects.

Looks very good Toshi. Odd seeing the engine behind the pilot but that's the P-39! 

I haven't tried those new 1/32nd fabric seatbelts but been tempted and they look really good there.

The Revell 32-scale Airacobra is indeed a Revell of Germany release, but that mold originated with Special Hobby.

Toshi .I have the 1 32 revell cobra. And I intend to use one of the trumpeter p 38 engines for that kit ..you see I keep those engines like bf-109 ..p 38. ..mustang. .corsair  ..hellcat ..wildcat ...bearcat. ..Warhawk ..kettyhawk ..262 engines. I use them as masters for casting in resin ..just to add more detail to those revell and monogram and others to name few .

Toshi, that 'Cobra looks to be a far superior kit to the Revell 32-scale kit that I am currently working on. I started mine last September along with three 48-scale Airacobras, but I expect you will finish your's before I complete any of mine.

One thing I will warn you about regarding the Airacobra is that all of the kits I have ever seen of this are notorious tail sitters. They require a lot of nose weighting to keep them on the tricycle gear. Which then leads to the problem. With all the armament detail up front, where do you out weight sufficient to keeping it from sitting on its tail? The Revell kit not feature any armament detail in the nose so this was not a problem, but this Kittyhawk kit appears to feature all of that detail, which just begs to be displayed.

 

Looking forward to seeing your completed 'Cobra.

 

 

 

 

Watching this one. I didn't know Revell had a 1/32 one. I knew about their 1/48 one.
