Oh, that 4000 pounds wasn't the maximum load of the B-17, it was a typical payload. I think the max theoretical load was up to about 17,000 pounds, but operationally, always remember that you have to trade payload for range.

To my fellow forum members,

I have been diligently and excitedly been tracking my Lancaster decals of the roundels.  Utilizing USPS tracking information, I can't wait for it to arrive!  I just found out some five minutes ago in that my decals are now in Kent, Ohio and are out in delivery mode.  That means I should have it in hand by 4:00pm today.  HURRAY!!!!

I'm also very anxiously been tracking my next build.  It's a GWH 1:48 P-61 Blackwidow.  This one is very special as it includes two extra decal sheets not including the GWH kit decals but also a Big Ed and a Eduard canopy masking set.  With this, the Blackwidow will be accompanied by a Squadron cowl and propeller set that comes with the propeller jig.  

I did a budgeted forecast in that if buying each piece individually including the kit itself and came to an approximate cost of $215.00.  I purchased the GWH kit and all the AM parts mentioned above at half the price!  I think I got away with murder.  LOL!  Of course as usual, I'll have a WIP thread available once I start the GWH Blackwidow kit!

To my fellow forum members,

I just received the much needed decal roundels for my Avro Lancaster build.  You can bet that I immediately went to set up and install the final decals needed to complete this build. 

As you can see below, everything has been completed except for two things.  Weathering and a spray of dullcoat to set the decals in and to get rid of the very high gloss on the Lancaster at this current time.  I'm going to allow the decals to set overnight and then I'll seal the Lancaster paint job in.  Thank you forum members for everything you've done for me.

Toshi, I am endlessly amazed by the quality and speed you can build models.  The Lancaster is a beaut!.  I actually got to crawl through one last summer at Osh Kosh.  I do mean crawl, getting over the wing spar was a challenge.    Talking about the B-17, it would typically carry between 4000-8000 pounds of bombs, depending on how far it had to fly.  As I recall, a typical mission into Germany would be closer to 4000 pounds, or 8X 500 bombs.  One of the issues with the B-17 was the size of its bomb bay.  It could probably lift heavier loads, but you couldn't squeeze them in.  As such, with its broad wing, the B-17 could fly higher and that made it safer than the B-24, which just couldn't climb as high.  THe B-24 could carry a larger load over more distance, though.

To My fellow forum members,

I can never forget how all of you wonderful forum members that logged on to my very first post of which was a Monogram 1:48 P-61 Blackwidow.  All I got was how well I was building my first kit after an absence of forty years.  With this build, I continue to receive assistance and praise of my builds.  You all just don't know how much this affects me.  Between doctors visit and physical therapy, modeling has become my escape as well as therapy in fine motor skills in assembling of a model kit.

For this simple gesture, no amount of medication drives me to be a better modeler and or a better human being.  I want to thank you all for everything, each day I wake up in excitement of being at the bench creating my next build.  Before this, I had absolutely nothing to live for.  

This Lancaster had to be placed as a unfinished project as I did not receive my roundels.  I finally received my decals via USPS at 4:00pm yesterday.  I immediately started to decal the Lancaster.  Once done, I waited one day (24 hrs.) for the decals to set, then I sprayed the kit with a flat coat followed by a enamel wash.  Here is my finale of the Avro Lancaster.  Again, thank you in advance for your support in my projects.

If you like the camo/black scheme, think about a B-52D during Vietnam.  they had the SEA 3 color camo tops and black bottoms.  You would not believe what they carried internally as well as inboard pylon loads of 500/750 pounders.........

I just don't know how you find the time and the stamina to complete your aircraft kits so quickly - but don't stop! It's such a treat to see anyone's WIP and I can always count on you to have at least one going.

I'm debating what aircraft to build next since I'm a little stymied with a simple old Lindberg ship kit that I want to make look good. It may be beyond my scope so I'll just try another a/c kit - preferably something that hasn't been posted here lately - perhaps the Fairey Swordfish?

I'ts when my mental stability goes south.  Thats when Mrs. Toshi steps in to get me to bed.  I become incoherent.  I don't recall anything I've done during these episodes.  My bench time will cease and desists.

As far a a kit to build that is unique, the Fairey Swordfish sounds like a great idea.  I'm like you, I enjoy building kits that most modelers feel that it's a kit they would not like to build.  This is my humble opinion.  I'll be finishing up the F4U-1 Corsair today.  Then you'll be surprised by my next build.  Thank you for your support!
