The Voodoo that you doodoo(what?)Monogram 1/48 F-101

Yes, i can relate. Unfortunatly, this sort of thing has become a regular part of my builds as well.

I gotta buy better kits.

Yeah,I applied the putty last night and will sand it off today.No gaps on the bottom though.

Remember guys, these are old school Monograms and may need some TLC. I don't remember having any gaps when I built mine. It could be because it was an original Monogram boxing and the molds were not worn out as in the case of the Revell re boxing?

I would stretch some sprue and drop it in the gap then hit it with thin liquid cement.  Or use some PPP and fill the gap, let it cure for 1/2 hour then wipe the area with a wet Q Tip leaving a clen fill with no sanding.

Still, with whatever technique you so choose to go with in reference to gaps, your build is moving along nicely.  Can't wait for the next update.

Thanks for the tips guys!i wet sanded with 320 grit and the seams have been dealt with.I taped off the area to minimize loss of surface detail .      

assembled the burner cans and painted them steel.I will leave them off until painting is done.i was surprised at the extreme dihederal of the horizontal stabs but the instructions indicate this is how they were.(hope this is correct as it was a bit of pain to make both of them match.)I assembled the nose cone and will fill it with lead shot to prevent tail sitting.Front landing gear was also installed.         

Your Voodoo is coming along quite nicely. I have no doubt that all your hard work will pay off resulting in a stellar model. 

I sure hope so!I used CA to attach the weighted nose cone.I decided to let gravity help me as it worked well on my P-61.The 2 clamps are there to prevent the model from toppling over.   

Wow1the wings sure are short in proportion to the length of the fuselage.Reminds me of the Mig 21.I guess that can work only if the engines are extremely powerful.

well, it did have the infamous "pitch up" issue...

Thanks! I taped up the canopy and am getting ready to primer and paint!One of my fave modeling tasks!     

While the primer dries,I decided to weather up the burner cans.First I painted them steel.followed by a swirl coat of Testors Jet Exhaust then some Burnt Metal Metalizer.The ends had Tamiya X-10 Gunmetal followed by a coating of Tamiya Smoke.Next I will apply some thinner clear blue,clear red and clear yellow in other places to add visual interest. Look pretty cool!   

Wow!The light gray is almost white!may have to darken it a smidge on the second coat.i was concerned that the MM paint was too thin but it went on fine!    

This is really turning out to be a great piece of work sir.  Especially with all the extra work needed to get this build thus far.  Excellent.  Just excellent!

There are some well done CGI F-101s in "13 Days". As a kid in school. I remember one of my school friends telling us how his dad was a Voodoo driver at that time, parked on the ramp armed ready to go...

Yes. Actually they used some Philipine AF F-8 gate guards for the ground scenes and CGI RF-8s... best low level jet recon scene on film yet...

I used a circle template to paint the anti glare sections.did a very good job!

Since the Voodoo had an unpainted lower fuselage(I guess they feared the engines would burn the paint off)I decided to use Alclad Chrome.Man that is good stuff!

Glossed it with Future and getting ready to add the decals.  

Looking good! In this photo it looks more like ADC Gray and less like Canadian Voodoo Gray.. that stuff is VERY close to white!

Yes I  chose Model Master Acryl Light Gray..
