Completed 1/48 F/A 18-E Super Hornet

At this point, I took out my good ole trusty Harbor Frieght Tools siphon AB that came as a package with my HFT compressor.  I filled the jar with MM Acrylic flat black and added MM thinner and sprayed everything as if it's was a primer.  What I learned from M.Brindos was that the black primer if done right can also act as a pre-weathering if it's done right.

So I'm going to try and replicate one of the many M.Brindos techniques to see if I can make this happen and make it successful.  I hope!  LOL!  Until that time we will need to see if I can get up to 25% close to what M.Brindos does and I'll be a happy camper!  Wish me all the luck.

Yes there are coloring books for adults, my wife has a couple as she got the idea from her mother a while back. I think I will stick to model building.

Yes the black primer trick will provide shadows and give a better topcoat base. It comes in specially handy when painting figures as it lays down the shadows on the clothing folds. Just one of the many techniques out there and seems like a new one comes out now and then.

I have this kit in my stash and looks to have good details specially in the pit and gear wells. It also has recessed panel lines.

As many of you know now, I was requested by MENTIS to try and find other artistic avenues to help with my TBI recovery.  Needless to say everything that did not pertain to acrylic/enamel paints, HB, and styrene assembly was very boring to me.  So here I am with a small stash from Mrs. Toshi.  First up is a Revell 1/48 18-E Super Hornet, Revell 1/48 Messerschmitt Me 262 A-1, and a Academey F4U-1 Corsair.  Now that I'm back to my normal work routine, not only am I happy but it definately shows!

Here is what was done today!

Dry fit stage.

I'm a free lance writer and I know a lot of my writer friends dabble in coloring books. My wife does, too. No dice getting any of them to build a model yet. LOL. They say they enjoy the coloring though.

I built the Revell F/A-18E also. It came out pretty good, but I had a lot of trouble with the nose/cockpit fitting to the fuselage. That and the intakes caused me issues. My kit ended up being warped, which I did not discover until I had both wings fully assembled and attached. So I think the warpage was a big part of my problem. That being said, some filler and a lot of elbow grease brought me to the finish line.

 I did use some aftermarket decals for VF-31. I like Felix with the bomb in the artwork.

Yeah, I guess coloring books are good for some people, I just didn't like it myself.  LOL!  Nice Hornet!  Thank you for sharing!

I've built this one before, the seam across the front of the fusalage is about the only real issue that and the annoying seam in the canopy other then that it was a easy build. I'm trying to drop the flaps and tint the canopy, it will look something like this

To my fellow forum members,

A few days ago I almost stopped building models.  My therapist wanted me to try a different hobby.  Needless to say, I'm glad the coloring and doing puzzles was not my cup of tea.  

I did tell the therapist that model building is exactly like coloring (Paint) and doing puzzles (Assembling of the kit).  I must add that sharing my builds on FSM Forum is a real joy for me.  So here is where I am at this point.

I forgot to add that the only areas needing a little TLC was by the wing, cockpit, and engine area.  This kit goes together really well.  It's not a detapiled crazy type model but at this price point who cares.  

Sure, one can buy a much more complicated kit, but the cost will be on the higher end price point.  Thank you forum members for visiting my threads!

Wow, with this build, I can load up the Super Hornet with tons of munitions.  The last last kit I built with this many options was the Revell 1/48 A-10.  My next step is to clean up the Hornet and spray the Hornet completely black then spray the base coat.  Thank you forum members for your support!

looking good moving right along. I would take stenciling over pin stirping a (smokey and the bandit T/A )

The Academy B and J F-4s have close to 400 decals and stencils to apply. I stopped counting at about 380 or so.

Looking very good as you breeze thru this one. Get yourself a couple of the Hasegawa 1/48 weapons sets and really load up for a mean and dirty look. Get herloaded up for some heavy duty earth moving detail.
