These guys are also based here. They were operating Bell 420's for a long time. They got 3 new Eurocopter 155's just a couple years ago.

Both of those planes are owned by the same guy (both based at my airport), he is also a customer I've mine. I will be getting a ride in that L-39...it has already been said!
He flies the T-6 with "The Screamin Rebels" demo team. They do the local-ish airshows. It's good stuff!
I have a little bit of stick time in the lead ship (from back in 2000).
I can't call this a good picture...but it is one of the last pictures of this plane.
I spoke with Ron (owner of the yellow T-6 and L-39) a couple days after the show (I was doing some work for him)...he informed me that that T-6(pictured above) had a bad landing on the return trip home (Jackson Michigan)...Pilot and his wife are okay, a few bumps and bruises...but the plane was pretty much a total loss.
That thing is a monster. I think I may have seen a couple landing at Orlando, but couldn't be sure.
It sort of reminds me of a double deck airliner they had in the old Captain Scarlet series back in the 60s, but I think they had the up-turned wing tips on theirs.
The Airbus A380 was easy prey for photographers at Oshkosh in 2009. I think everyone got a good shot that day. What a monster aircraft. It looked like a large building flying around. The pilot made several low passes and also displayed some impressive climb rates and turns. Good show!

Nice shots Ish! The Cold War Air Museum and CAF in Lancaster are doing Warbirds on Parade 3 Sept. If you're not doing anything tomorrow, IPMS NCT is holding our monthly meeting at the Irving Arts Building on Senter rd. We start socializing at about 1:00pm. Program will be a Nationals recap for those of us who didn't get to go. Bring whatever it is you're working on for the show and tell portion of the meeting. Hope to see you there.

A quick follow up on the lens used in the shot. Here's a crop from the picture. It has lost some resolution through Photobucket but demonstrates what hi-tech lenses can do. This along with high megapixels and high ISO settings produce opportunities in photography unheard of in film days of the past.
Things happen fast in action photography. Sometimes you get it, sometimes you don't. Between the formation juggling and me juggling I got the shots but they could have been better. The first shot is not bad but the second shot is sharper but I've clipped the P-51 wing. We could cheat and with Photoshop make a composite that fixes the problem but that's not what photojournalism is about. Anyway, here's my best attempt with the chance I had. Can't win them all!

For those who never shot film! This shot was my first Air Show with a digital camera. Having shot film for over 50 years I was not quite ready for the changeover. I had purchased an early Nikon D-70 to test and had done a few jobs with it. I think the day of the Air Show was the day of reckoning in my digital career. The D-70 was something like 6MP and the Nikon lenses I owned mounted right on the new camera but increased their magnification by 1.5X due to its sensor being smaller than 35mm. This was shot with a Nikon 80-200 zoom which made it equivalent to a 120-300mm lens. After viewing the images there was no doubt in my mind that this was the future of Photography!

I'm not sure what that 130s job was. All types would show up from time to time. Most of the time you just pretended you never saw them and didn't get too near. Occasionally one might show up with all sorts of equipment on it, sometimes the only difference might be a off colored part.
This is a C-130 from Iran that came over to Litttle Rock so the crew could attend some classes. Unfortunately they flew all the way with nobody knowing about their true fuel status. When they arrived they set up to land as if their pylon tanks were empty. When they hit the tanks were damaged as well as part of the wings. They were given Vietnam colored tanks from our base and sent back by request of the Shaw where they probably had a bit of explaining to do.
The three three engined thing is a Colonial Viper from Battlestar Galactica 1980. It's also a family model. They were filming at a A.N.G. base, maybe Van Nuyes air port. As to be expected, when you show up at a base you don't own, sometimes you get tagged by the unit that owns the base. They had already pulled the wings for transport back to the studios.

One of the squadrons my Father was in had the P-39. From what he said they were not well liked by the pilots because of the engine placement. They had one go down in a nearby town and the pilot caught his chute on a building's flag pole and ended up in somebody's apartment.
The BD-5 I caught in 1973 at Burke Lakefront Airport, Cleveland. We were there with the C-5 you see in the background. He brought the mini-jet in a C-47 and asked permission to park it under the C-5s wing for protection, which the aircraft commander allowed.

Wow, nice shot of the P-39! I've never seen one in person except at Dayton USAF museum.. Got any more? Only been to Oshkosh once in 2009. What an experience! Approach and landing---Scary! (I was the frightened passenger.)
I really did get some breaks in my Photography career. Here's one of my favorites that hangs in my office today. Still Kodachrome film and shot with my trusty motorized Nikon F2 with a 300mm Nikkor lens, all fully manual and low ISO of 64. Dated August 1979.
Cool stuff! Love the little BeeDee 5. I wrote for the brocure on this kit build in the 1960s. I saw one at an airshow years ago and talked to the owner. At the time only a handful were flying and the Defense department flew them for Radar cruise missile simulation.
Remember the song "Every picture tells a story"? How true.
Here's another oldie from 1976 and Kodachrome film. I saw this P-38 at an airshow in Joplin, Mo. and never saw it again. I wonder what became of it. Nikon F2, 16mm lens.

Yea its really great, this year had more warbirds than I've seen in awhile. They said there was 350+ warbirds there this year. That includes all time frames and things such as trainers. I personally don't rememer seeing that many but I don't go to the trainers and that type of thing. It's expensive but so worth it!
Back to the film days and yes it was a Kodachrome. Tagged along with the offical Blue Angels photographer who let me go out on the flight line with him. Nikon F2 and 24mm lens. All this info is starting to date me! LOL! Yikes! June 1976.
And yes we had to set the exposure and focus.

This one required the AF to be turned off and manually focusing on the spot he was going to be. I was happy with this one of the MIG 17 on takeoff and gear coming up while observers look on.
"Al Fursan", what a shot! Composition, visual impact, time related, and sharp. It meets all requirements for excellent photography. Good job.

I've been very fortunate to be able to attend the opening race of the Red Bull Air Race series for the last few years. I learned the importance of high shutter speeds after a few tries.
