Joe, it did help that the base was a simple one and i didn't add any figures. And it was such a great kit to put together. While i do enjoy getting right into builds, its nice to have one like this that i can just relax over now and again. And thnaks for getting me onto it. This is not one i would have bought myself and i would have missed out.

I'm continually amazed at not only the speed at which you build these little jewels but at the detail that you manage to put into such a small scale. Glad you got around to this one and had the great turnout that you did. You da man Bish.

She turned out great Bish, and the carrier deck even if the colour may be a little off looks great too! Sharp work. 

And yeah, everyone should build a least one Corsair!

I've done a few of their 110s...very enjoyable!

The Mig-15's as well...only issue is the fit of the "chin" piece and intake/nose ring. Not horrible, or a deal breaker in any way.

I really don't like dropping in on 1/72 builds - they just give me shivers thinking about how small the parts are and how fumbling my fingers have become . However, when I note an aircraft that I may build in 1/48, I sometimes take a peek.

Your build looks great and it did give me the shivers.

Thanks Joe. When i saw your base i did wounder if that was the older verlinden one which is a lot darker than their new one. I am sure i can do somthign with whats left.

I had noticethere seem to be no FAA Cosair kits, but there are some AM decals, Xtradecal and eagle cal have some nice looking ones.

The 1D kit your doing, am i right in thinking that only carriers the overall blue scheme, which i am guessing is a later one than the scheme i did here. I was lookin at the 1A kit for an FAA build, but can't decide between the Bird cage kit or the 1D for a US one.

For the exhausts, i just went with my usual and didn't consider that differant engines migth produce differant staining, i will keep that in mind. And i had no idea about the deck. Verlinden sell this as a USN WW2 carrier deck, so just went with it. I am sure next time i could find a way of staining it. Which deck did you use for yours as i recall that was darker.

Your welcome. My flight deck is a Squdron cardboard piece that is 8" X 10", I think. And, yes, it is a "worn" deck blue. I also want to build one of the Royal Navy FAA Corsairs. love the camo schemes. Also of note on FAA Corsairs is that many of them had clipped wing tips in order to fit with wings folded into British carrier hangars. Being that Royal Navy carriers had armored decks this made the hangar space shorter in height. Interesting that RN pilots/engineers solved many of the early problems Corsairs had with carrier landings via approach and landing gear modifications.

Bish, That is really impressive. You have done that fine kit some justice. I am glad that you enjoyed building the Hellcat and even happier that you shared it with us. I hope you go for the Corsair. If you do be sure and pick up the 1/72 Tamiya kit as it is by far the best one out there.

I realize that this your early foray into doing USN aircraft yet, should you wish to do more here is a couple of suggestions. Exhaust staining from the R2800 on the dark blue paint tended to be of a tan/creamish color. Also, should you choose to pursue to display any USN aircraft on a carrier deck setting then the flight deck colors of USN carriers was a dark blue known as deck stain blue. This is by no means any kind of criticism just simply suggestions.

Mike, ye, it does seem rather roomy. But then i am more used to German aircrfat and the 109 is not known for being spacious.

That turned out really good! I was wanting to finish out my P-40 in this manner, but alas, that did not happen as planned lol. I have to say, I'm most impressed with that pit. It does look much larger in scale than it is.

Time to call the hellcat done. Really enjoyed building this. A great little kit that built up so well and really nice to do something different and not worry about figures or anythign else.

I got the decals added which were really nice and used some black craft wire for the brake lines.

And to finish off, some very light weathering. I used some flory washes for the panel lines and tamiya smoke for exhaust staining. And after a flat coat, some Tamiya black weathering powder for the gun staining.

This is my last aircraft build of the year, and realy chuffed with how its turned out. Time to get back to some heavy metal and black crosses.
