mustang1989 Nice start on that jewel Bish. I thought you'd never get around to it.
Nice start on that jewel Bish. I thought you'd never get around to it.
This ain't bad for me, less than a year after getting it. It could be worse, the panzerwerefer i am just finishing has been in the stash for 20.
No worries Greg.

Excellent work on the 'pit Bish! A great start!

Thanks allan. Now have the paint and gloss coat on and ready for decals. So will have some more tonight.
Time for a short update, mainly been painting this week so that took a bit of time. All the assembly was done soon after the last update. This went together like a dream. I just needed a small bit of filler infront of the canopy, but i think that was more doen to me. I really like how the wings fit especially, no filler at all there.
And then off to the paint booth. After some primer, i used Xtracolor white on the underside and the two blues are Humbrol. I left 2 days between each coat before masking and then finished off with Alclad gloss on top, as the Xtracolor is gloss anyway.
I am just taking a break from adding the decals, so should have that doen tonight and then some detail painting.
Bish,
The three colors turned out very well! Great job!

Bish, the paint scheme is just so beautiful. You make it look so easy. Thank you for sharing this build, I'm learning while you create!

Thanks Toshi. I am learning myself as i go on with this. Thats what this place is all about.
Bravo Bish on a tri-color scheme well done. It looks great. Did you mask at all or did you free hand it? Yeah, how about how Eduard engineered those wings. I too was duly impressed. Seriously, you don't need to even glue them in place.
I'm soo proud of you.

Thanks Joe. I used White tac to mask. But i didn't get it quite straight enough, so i had to tidy up a bit freehand. I know what you mean, the fit is perfetc. Hasegawa does the same thing with their B-24 kits.
Coming right along, my friend.
Oh yeah, nice work there Bish. The tri-colour USN scheme is a pain to paint but it looks sooooo good when it's done well like yours.

I can certainly agree with all that has been said. WELL DONE indeed! She's already beautiful, Bish. :)

Thanks for the comments guys, this has made a nice change and was a pleasure to do.
Time to call the hellcat done. Really enjoyed building this. A great little kit that built up so well and really nice to do something different and not worry about figures or anythign else.
I got the decals added which were really nice and used some black craft wire for the brake lines.
And to finish off, some very light weathering. I used some flory washes for the panel lines and tamiya smoke for exhaust staining. And after a flat coat, some Tamiya black weathering powder for the gun staining.
This is my last aircraft build of the year, and realy chuffed with how its turned out. Time to get back to some heavy metal and black crosses.
Thnaks for looking and all comments wlecome of course.
That turned out really good! I was wanting to finish out my P-40 in this manner, but alas, that did not happen as planned lol. I have to say, I'm most impressed with that pit. It does look much larger in scale than it is.
Fabulous finish. :)
Beautiful build, my favorite part is how the paint scheme came out. Thanks Bish for the WIP.
That's beautiful, Bish!
Thanks guys.
Mike, ye, it does seem rather roomy. But then i am more used to German aircrfat and the 109 is not known for being spacious.
Toshi, thanks, i was rather chuffe with it. Even eyeing up a Corsair now.
Hey Bish, I've already commented favorably on the cockpit and I must say the final product looks great! We big handed people are always envious of the 1/72 guys! LOL. Good job!
Max
Wow that's a gorgeous little thing Bish.
Very inspiring and I aspire to some day make a model this good...i should live so long.
I'm finally retired. Now time I got, money I don't.
Another excellent 1/72, Bish.
Nice work and thanks for sharing it.
Bish, That is really impressive. You have done that fine kit some justice. I am glad that you enjoyed building the Hellcat and even happier that you shared it with us. I hope you go for the Corsair. If you do be sure and pick up the 1/72 Tamiya kit as it is by far the best one out there.
I realize that this your early foray into doing USN aircraft yet, should you wish to do more here is a couple of suggestions. Exhaust staining from the R2800 on the dark blue paint tended to be of a tan/creamish color. Also, should you choose to pursue to display any USN aircraft on a carrier deck setting then the flight deck colors of USN carriers was a dark blue known as deck stain blue. This is by no means any kind of criticism just simply suggestions.
I always love your work Bish.
Cheers, Joe
Very nice, build and display!
Great kits, these are!
Thanks guys, as always its appreciated.
Max, as i always say, its what i am used to. How my fat fingurs manage it is a mystery to me.
Joe, thank you and thanks for that info. I have been looking at the differant options for a Cosair and of course have been zooming in on the Tamiya. I am even thinking of a british one and a US one. For the exhausts, i just went with my usual and didn't consider that differant engines migth produce differant staining, i will keep that in mind. And i had no idea about the deck. Verlinden sell this as a USN WW2 carrier deck, so just went with it. I am sure next time i could find a way of staining it. Which deck did you use for yours as i recall that was darker.
And as always, all suggestions that will help me improve are very welcome.
Thanks fermis. Your not kidding. I've got an Bf 110 and MiG 15 in the stash, itching to build those now.

Your welcome. My flight deck is a Squdron cardboard piece that is 8" X 10", I think. And, yes, it is a "worn" deck blue. I also want to build one of the Royal Navy FAA Corsairs. love the camo schemes. Also of note on FAA Corsairs is that many of them had clipped wing tips in order to fit with wings folded into British carrier hangars. Being that Royal Navy carriers had armored decks this made the hangar space shorter in height. Interesting that RN pilots/engineers solved many of the early problems Corsairs had with carrier landings via approach and landing gear modifications.
Thanks Joe. When i saw your base i did wounder if that was the older verlinden one which is a lot darker than their new one. I am sure i can do somthign with whats left.
I had noticethere seem to be no FAA Cosair kits, but there are some AM decals, Xtradecal and eagle cal have some nice looking ones.
The 1D kit your doing, am i right in thinking that only carriers the overall blue scheme, which i am guessing is a later one than the scheme i did here. I was lookin at the 1A kit for an FAA build, but can't decide between the Bird cage kit or the 1D for a US one.
I really don't like dropping in on 1/72 builds - they just give me shivers thinking about how small the parts are and how fumbling my fingers have become . However, when I note an aircraft that I may build in 1/48, I sometimes take a peek.
Your build looks great and it did give me the shivers.

I've done a few of their 110s...very enjoyable!
The Mig-15's as well...only issue is the fit of the "chin" piece and intake/nose ring. Not horrible, or a deal breaker in any way.
