Always a pleasure to view your quickly completed models.

I love the Corsair - my favorite aircraft from WWII. Great comparison shot for the size difference. I'll stick to 1/48 though since I'm used to building a/c kits that size - 1/72 too small, 1/32 too large, 1/48 in the Goldilocks zone Big Smile.

Thank you my friend!  As for the Corsair, I too am a fanatic of this aircraft.  I just started to build in 1/72 and find it challenging at times.  The last 1/48 Corsair I built was the Revell (The old Monogram kit) kit and I really enjoyed building that kit.  Although large and cumbersome, I love the detail in 1/32 kits, especially from Tamiya and Trumpeter to name a few.

Thank you so much for your support in my projects especially the conversations we have!

Your Corsair came out really nice Toshi. I have a couple of those in my stash yet to be built. Do you still frequent Hobby Lobby much? I was there for the first time in awhile last weekend and saw that they had some new releases on the shelves. I wound up buying (off of their clearance table) a twin pack of a small scale Lindberg Models ship kit.

Thank you my friend.  I'm so happy that the kit came with "Pappy" Boyington markings.  I still frequent Hobby Lobby, it's my second home!  LOL!  I did see the clearance table and I saw the very kits you spoke of.  I'd love to see a WIP on those kits from you.  Your builds are very inspirational! Thank you for your read and reply, I so miss our conversations.

How are you doing?  I hope all is well?  Take care my friend!

Toshi: So very sorry to hear about your health scare! That was a very sweet gesture on the therapist's part and I'm very glad that you have this kit once again. It's a nice vintage kit and has tons of nostalgic appeal to me.

Thank you so much for your heart felt concern.  You are so kind and have been a good friend to me!  Yes, the therapist as well as my doctors are very good to me, I'm very lucky to have such a talented medical team to care for me.  I'm an even a luckier man to have such a wonderful family as well as you and FSM Forum members as my second family.

Your support is truly appreciated.

With the effects of the seisure, you did another excelent job.

I got the same kit last year a couple of hundred miles from home.  Have the wings, tail and fuselage together, and need to get the rest done.

Thanks goldhammer!  It took me a few days to recouperate but it all came out good.  I'm very happy with the way it came out.  I'd love to see your completed build!  Thanks for the support and the read and the reply!

Here's some additional photos for scale.  The 1/32 Corsair is the original Revell "Baa Baa Black Sheep" Corsair.

plasticjunkie

I consider 1/72 scale more challenging to paint because of the smaller size making freehand demarcation lines tighter than in the larger scales. So with that said, great airbrushing job Toshi.

Thank you sir.  I personally felt it was a bit more difficult due to it's size and also my hands still not recovering from my last seizure I had, although it's getting better.  I did have fun and I learned a lot more about AB at really low PSI.  I went as low as 8 PSI.  Wow, I've never done that before!  LOL!

Here is my completed Testors 1/72 F4U-1 Corsair.  Everything is a OOB build except the antenna.  I did my very first scratch building with that.  If you can call it even that.  LOL!  Compared to everyone else on this forum, it's probably a joke.  LOL!  I used stretched sprue.  The hardest part was getting it to scale.  Once I got it to scale, I drilled holes so that I had a stronger hold for the antenna.

I normally use EZ-Line but this time I said what the hell and I stretched the sprue as thin as I could and used that instead.  I used Tamiya extra thin cement to attached the extra thin sprue to complete the antenna, so don't laugh!  I sure did!  LOL!  I hope you all enjoyed my 1/72 Corsair build.  My gift from above.

The freehand airbrushing came out really well, Toshi. 1/72's not that difficult. Its actually half the work compared to a 1/48. lol!

Thank you allan!  It was difficult for me as my hands were still shakey.  LOL!  Thank you for the feedback!

M. Brindos

You free handed that? You did better than i did on mine. I had to go and touch up mine with a little dry brushing to get mine to look the way it does.

I should have also warned you much sooner, but Pappy's squadron didn't have rocket equiped Corsairs. That's why I removed those from the wings and moved the bombs inboard of the wheel wells on scratch built racks.

I don't know if you want to change this so late in the build - especially after paint - but now you know.

...and knowing is half the battle! Go Joe! lol

I find that hard to believe that I AB a Corsair better than yours.  LOL!  I didn't know about the rocket equipped Corsairs.  Your right, now that I know, Joe will make it happen!  LOL!  Thank you so much for the feedback!

To my fellow forum members,

This is something I've never done before.  AB a 1/72 Corsair free hand.  It took a lot of patience and some retouching of some areas.  I will be building "Pappy" Boyington's Lulubelle/Lucybelle.  I would like to have members whom can give me some feedback into how it came out.  Thank you in advance.

Toshi,

So one side of the fuselage was not larger than the other side?????  I got this kit from the local Osco Drug when it first came out.  It taught me two things, 1) how to sand until my elbow fell off, and 2), it was the first model I learned to weather and dry brush on from reading the little tutorial in the instructions.

In thinking I got a bad kit, I bought two more, and both had one side of the fuselage larger than the other.  They must have fixed it.

Stay well my friend.

No, they both were of equal length.  I had no troubles with the fueselage, just some tail issues of which needed some TLC.  Other than that, the whole kit went together very well.  No fit issues at all.  Thank you for the heads up and relaying this information.

Sorry to hear about your seizure, Toshi. Good to see youre back up.

I cant believe youre building another Corsair --- my favorite WW2 fighter --- and Ive yet to start my single 1/72 kit.  lol.

Thank you for your heartfelt concern, I'm so honored allan.  I told Mrs. Toshi nothing will take me down.  I also told her that this is my last seizure!  I'm going to will it!  At least I'll try to.

Yes, that's how much I love the Corsair, just like you!  I did see that Trumpeter makes a 1/32 Corsair, maybe I can get that for my birthday.  As for 1/72 builds, thats is Mrs. Toshi's favorite scale.  I really enjoy Academy 1/72 WWII aircraft series.  They're inexpensive, highly detailed, and take up little room.  allan, thank you so much for your support over these last year and a half, I so greatly appreciate it!
