Outstanding work Toshi..

Thank you!  I'm still learning and experimenting with different things if you noticed.  The Mustang invasion stripes are decals.  I should have painted them on.  But I'm still learning!  LOL!  Thank you for staying with me through these ongoing builds.  Some good, some not too good.  Your support is most appreciated!

Nice little collection you're building there. If your Raiden is feeling a little lonely, check out Airfix's Zero. It's a nice little kit for the asking price, which is very reasonable ($8.00 or less) online. Look up a review or two and see what you think.

Thank you very much Phil_H!  I'm going to check it out right now and check out the reviews!

The Tennessee  lady is an  F and the ROG is a G. The ROG has recessed panel lines and a super detailed interior . If you want the Belle, then get the Revell Pro Modeler F on Ebay (which is a F with parts for a G also) and looks to be like the same kit.

If you like bombers, also get a MInicraft B-24 with equally excellent details. Both kits even at 1/72 scale are still large.

I really like how your 1/72 fleet is growing, Toshi. You need something German in there now because that poor little Raiden is out numbered pretty badly lol.

What are you using for a final finish, if I may ask?

Yes, by leaps and bounds!  A German aircraft would look great with this set.  I think the other Raiden will be painted silver with American markings.  A captured aircraft!

As for the finish, I've been using the Testors Lacquer Gloss from a can.  If you noticed the raiden's wings, they have a strange ruffled hue to them and it's just a visual anomaly from the way the light affects.

I bought a new LED lamp and it's really bright.  I mean really bright.  Once I get the lighting dialed in, the fuffled hue should be gone as well.  So says the queen of photography, my duaghter.

Looks good Toshi, quite a collection. Some of the 1/72 models pack as much detail as the larger scales. For example, the 1/72 ROG B-17 is actually better detailed than the older 1/48 brother.

Thank you, you know how it is, you start with one and the next thing you know...

I didn't know about the ROG 1/72 B-17 having more details than the 1/48 B-17.  Is the ROG 1/72 B-17 the Memphis Belle?  Thank you in advance.

Here is the completed Raiden and some of his 1/72 friends.  I still have another Raiden that I'm saving that for the Thunderbolt GB in October.  As always, having this be my first Raiden and my first Hasegawa kit, I've learned a lot of things that this community has reached out to me and taught me and I'm forever great full for that

I hope you enjoy the last three photos of Toshi's 1/72 Air Force!  I think it looks pretty thrilling!  I've never made 1/72 aircraft before until just recently, I think they're very cool and of course take up little space!

Hey Toshi,

Your paint work is looking great, but I think there is something a little off with the fan. It should be enclosed inside the cowling, not protruding from it. Did you have any problems in that area?

No none at all, until you pointed that out.  I had no idea.  Thank you for thr pictorial!

Love Japanese A/C. This should be fun to watch.

I'm glad I can be accommodating for you as you show your affinity with IJN Aircraft like this Raiden as an example.  Thank you so very much for following this build, and your read and reply!

I have a Hasegawa Zero 1/48 started and a Hasegawa Frank ad Jill in my stash. My only planes.

You sound like you are set up to have your own little IJN aircraft ready to go!  I'd love to see your WIP/finished Hasegawa 1/48 Zero!

What color green did you use for that?

Vallejo flat green 70.968 x3 and camoflauge olive green 70.894 x1.

Wow, what an interesting conversation in regards from IJN interior colors as well as one on F4U Corsairs.  That's why this forum is such a great place to be a part of.

Below is how far I've gotten with the Raiden build.

That is a VERY helpful article! It even gave me some insight on how to paint the Revell Dauntless I picked up yesterday.

Thank you for posting that link!

To PlasticJunkie,

I purchased the Tamiya 1/32 Birdcage Corsair when I first started to build.  That was one of the first articles I pulled up as I couldn't understand why the Tamiya assembly sheet was asking me to mix paint up that looked like pink and not green zinc chromate!  LOL!

Toshi

If memory serves me correct, I read about that Corsair and was noted in the article that it had a pink/red primer instead of the usual zinc chromate green often seen. This was due to either being a very early Corsair or a surviving one with the unusual original colors still intact (kind of). I'm sure there was corrosion and fading from time and the elements.

I read the link you posted is an excellent one and sounds pretty close to what I remember reading a while back so looks like the birdcage Corsairs had this pinkish or salmon color for internal corrosion protection.

The Jack is coming along great so good work there.

Interesting....

If it were Iron Oxide however, it would turn brown over time. Just as the the iron in our blood does when exposed to oxygen. So it's obviously not an Iron Oxide coating. So I'm really trying to figure out if they used a red paint or if it was an orange paint of some type. Obviously the red pigment was dominate if it turned pink, but the descriptive word "Salmon" suggests a possibly orange color that faded to pink. Since our aircraft industry was quite fond of using orange paints to draw attention to important things, this doesn't seem overly out of place. Its just weird that no one had ever heard of it before they dredged up that plane. And why paint an entire tail wheel bay in such a manner?

This is really a curiosity to me.

To all your questions and statements; "I don't know what to tell you"!  I'm sorry.  I can only do more research into this strange phenomenon!  Maybe there's some one out there that has an answer?  HELP!

Toshi

I found your conversation regarding salmon pink interior surfaces on the Corsair to be interesting, so I did a bit of looking online. I found this article:

http://www.ipmsstockholm.org/magazine/2004/05/stuff_eng_interior_colours_us_part3.htm

This is an article that appears to be chock full of good information, although I cannot comment on its accuracy.
