1/72 Italeri A-10 Finished
Posted by fermis on Saturday, October 22, 2016 11:09 AM

On short final, to the bench!

Kit looks quite good already...adding Eduard Big Sin PE & masks, Aires cockpit, Master Model gun barrels, and some Eduard brassin ordnance(w/ more on the way).

Stick out tongue   What scheme?

Not completely sure, as of yet.

Got a little ahead of myself and forgot to take some pics.

Anyway, the obligatory pit pics...

The A-10 has some pretty pronounced rivets, mainly toward the back...can't see em in the pics, but I did rivet where needed. Other misc. items in the works.

Stores figured out (going with the mk84's on inner pylons...GBU-10's will go to something else)

Thanks guys!

Little update.

This brass stuff was nothing short of a major pain in the @$$.

It makes perfect sense on the instructions...but in order to do it in such a way, there is no way to paint the inside. I tried painting the barrels, then sliding them through the back plate. The holes in the back plate are exactly the size of the barrels...no room left for paint. Attempt 2...repaint barrels, remove front plate, slide barrels down into back plate....then try to line everything up to get cover plate on....NO. After far too much effort and words not even heard by sailors...I just glued the barrel fronts into the front plate, and slid that mess down through the cylinder and put a glob of CA at the end.

It was nowhere near as simple as it sounds, or should have been...I spent well over 2 hours F'n with this stupid thing.

Got more parts on the plane as well.

I'd like to know, who draws up the color guides on the instruction sheets...so I can meatslap em! Side profiles don't match with what top/bottom profiles show...bugs me. I resorted to looking at pics of the real thing...there's quite a few differences from one plane to another...I went with an "average".

Instructions called for "Medium Green"...NO..at least not Model Masters "Med. Grn". I mixed OD with a bit of Chromate Yellow" for the lighter green...

Let that sit for about 20 minutes, masked with poster tack "worms".

Instructions called for "Gunship Grey"...I don't have that (bottle went bad)...black/white mix...

Moved/added more "worms"...

Euro 1 Dark Green is a color I also do not have, and it appears to not be made by Model Master anymore. Mixed some yellow and blue...a bit of this, a dash of that...

Unmasked...

Yes   What scale is this anyway, and what is that scheme called?  Looks sorta like a NATO Western European and desert scheme mixed???

Been procrastinating a bit...I absolutely hate doing ordnance...every single bit of it! Got it all painted up and glossed, finally. Decals soon...should have this wraped up by mid-week.

Here it is, along with all the stuff for the Harrier.

Revenant

Confused...oh, and where is the "winged girl art" on this bird???

That decal was about 4x bigger than it's supposed to be. On the boxart and on decal instructions, it shows that marking inside of a single panel...the decal itself would span 3 panels. BOOOOO

1/72...."Lizard", I believe is what the scheme is called.

Hmm. That's the logo for the third squadron of the AVG. And that looks like its 1/48 scale. Judging by the size of the tweezers.

Same decal that's on the Monovell P-40B.

Not sure what you can do about that.

Otherwise, it all looks wonderful!  :)

I hate ordinance too. One reason I stick to mostly gunfighters. That's looking sweet Fermis.

My first thought went to Airfix's P-40...but the decal on that one is a standing/walking figure. Size/scale would be just right though.

Embarrassed I figured you'd just hand-paint it...

How did I miss this? I love A-10's.

Did you start this on Oct 18 or is that just when you started the thread?

Very nice, and if my nose gun comes out 1/4 as well, I'll be happy (I'm guessing I'll give up and use kit plastic version when the time comes). Cheers for your perserverance, it looks great.
