1/48 Revell B-17G WIP

You did a fantastic job on the interior detailing for this very classic kit!  I'm definately looking forward to more!

Man, who doesn't love a B-17! That is looking great. I have often wondered, as popular as this kit is I am suprised that revell/monogram or any other manufacturer has not decided to do a new tooling in this scale.

Looking good. I remember building this kit as a kid, so it's nice to see it being worked up here. Keep it up!

I appreciate it guys. I moded the landing gear because I'm going to display it in flight with a BF109. BTW, anybody notice the pinups on the left fuselage?

Made a little more progress. Haven't had much time as of late, so I haven't gotten as much done as I would like. I got the anti glare panels and almost all of the de icer boots painted up. Still got a ton left to do though, so stay tuned.

Man, that's a beautifully smooth silver paint job. I don't know how you guys do that.

Had an expensive day yesterday.........I couldn't help it though. My LHS had them in stock (I got lucky he had a G stuffed in the back, they are as rare as a unicorn) and I couldn't help it. What can I say, I love the B17. With exception to the F14 Tomcat, you would be hard pressed to convince me there was any plane cooler! Anyway these are going in the stash for a later day and I will continue to chip away at the 1/48 B17. Stay tuned! The finish line is in sight!

Had an expensive day yesterday.........I couldn't help it though. My LHS had them in stock (I got lucky he had a G stuffed in the back, they are as rare as a unicorn) and I couldn't help it. What can I say, I love the B17. With exception to the F14 Tomcat, you would be hard pressed to convince me there was any plane cooler! Anyway these are going in the stash for a later day and I will continue to chip away at the 1/48 B17. Stay tuned! The finish line is in sight!

 

Very nice detail on the revell kit, how was the fit of the parts on that? I have the seam kit I might build next year.

My dad was a belly turrent gunner on a B-17.  Said they flew a beautiful, new F or G version to England from America through Iceland ("no ice") and Greenland ("no green") into Scotland, then down to England.  So, he says they are all excited to fly this nice new bird into Europe......only to find out an experienced crew was getting the Fort they flew in, and they get a "beat to hell" E version.  He said they grew to love the E, since it got them out and back every time.  If I can find the picture of him and his crew, I will scan and post.  I do love the Fort.  That was one tough bird.

Did you take out a flier on your homeowner's insurance to cover these big, bad, pricey boys in the event of a disaster?

 

 

I have not, though I did have to take out a second mortgage to pay for them!

For a kit nearly 40 years old that has not seen a re tool, it's really not bad! There are some seams that need extra effort and a few minor gaps that need to be filled, but overall, it builds pretty nice. I'll put it this way, I have built kits, including newer revell kits ( cough cough FA18E cough cough) that are absolute nightmarish garbage as far as fit goes.

I thought about re-scribing it all to reccessed detail as you always loose some detail with filling and sanding but I will rather try and limit the sanding and keep the raised detail, hope it is successful.

Haven't decided yet Toshi. I might do one in flight and one static. We will see though what hits me while building.

Very good build. I am green with envy for your HKM kits. I just cant afford them with the weak ZAR exchange rate.

It's an amazing plane! Other than the A10 Warthog /Thunderbolt, I don't know of any plane that could literally get shot to s**t, and I mean shot to s**t  and still be able to fly and bring its crew home safe.

Finally got some more bench time in. Here is what I have done so far, mainly just getting some paint down for squadron and bomber group markings. Don't see many modeled with them, but I decided to put the walkways on the wings. I wanted it to actually have texture, so I used some 3M 150 grit fine drywall sheets that I cut into strips and laid down. Started work on props and engines as well. Getting close to the end guys so stay tuned!

Great work on this,she islook very nice. This is the kit which got meinto dio's. I hadthe Monograme boxing back in the 80'swith the Shep Paine booklet inside with his crashed B-17. Right then i was hooked.

This was my first attempt. I am planning on building a cleaned up and clearer set!

And funny you mention that shipwreck! I actually ordered some prop blurs just last night! Just so that it has more of a dynamic look to it! BTW, love what you did with the bomb! That's awesome!  Your bird definitely is dynamic!
