That looks really nice Toshi, I like the comparison with the kit parts. I can't wait to see more.

Thank you silentbob33.  I did the comparison more for my stupidity!  LOL!  I know how bad resin parts normally don't fit hence the kit parts was utilized as a template to the Eduard Brassin AM kit.  I'd hate to be trimming things after all this work I've invested in.  So far, everything dry fits perfectly.

But we as modelers know this can change minute by minute if not in seconds.  Expect the unexpected should be the modelers mantra.  Thank you sir for the support and read and reply!

To to my fellow forum members,

Thank you so much for your support in my projects.  It is greatly appreciated and humbles me much as I'm just a novice in this hobby compared to you all.  I've found that by utilizing the OOB cockpit as a template to the Eduard/Brassin resin set helps greatly with adjustments in height and width.  So far I'm on par with the OOB cockpit.  I've also dry fitted the resin cockpit into the fueselage and have yet to detect any discrepancies but it is still too early to really tell.  I'll know for sure as things move along.

Below are three photos of where I'm at this early evening.  As of this point, there are no issues nor concerns with the kit part or the AM parts.  Everything has fallen into place as per the directions of which is a great thing.  But we as modelers know that we must always expect the unexpected!  LOL!  Until then, please enjoy these photos.

Hey Toshi, great to see your build progress. I am wrapping up my 1/48 Academy P-38 as we speak. i was about where you are 1 year ago. I went with  the Aires cockpit and had a hell of a time getting it to fit. It also caused a domino effect of seam and fitting issues around the nose area that took some filling and alot of sanding. I think youll be better off with the Eduard cockpit. This was my first Academy kit and I learned pretty quickly not to hold it up to Tamiya standards. However, the boom attachment and alignment went quite well with zero fuss. With some elbow grease this kit has some good potential. i'll be watching your progress. Good luck!

Steve

I'm excited to hear that you are wrapping up your Lightning.  After hearing of your issues with the Aires cockpit, I am weary of how well this will go although I will take your word for it that the Eduard Brassin will be a better fit I hope!  LOL!  We can only see.

I know Academy is a great kit but it's definately not at a Tamiya standard.  They do try with some success.  I hope my build will come out half as good as your kit does.  Thank you for your support!

Awesome Toshi, one of my favorite aircraft too. And with extra goodies!

Thanks Gamera.  The forked tailed devil is a very popular aircraft with everyone.  The extra goodies as you so put it is really a highly detailed set that I can recommend!  Thanks for stopping by!

First set of PE installed.  As usual, it's the seat belts.  I'm so used to 1/32 PE, I forgot how small 1/48 PE is.  LOL!  So far dry fit looks good.

OH Boy !

I am anxious to see your take on this very same kit I have in the stash.

Intreging that you have the AM set as well and it;s very interesting how you are showing the kit parts vs the Edward parts in comparison. I may have to purchase the AM set as well.  TY very much for posting.

I'm not so anxious Uncle Jay Jay.  Quite the opposite, nervous in making sure the resin parts matches up to the stock parts or else!  LOL!  Not oh boy, oh no!  LOL!  That's the only issue with AM resin and sometimes PE. Things needing to be trimmed, it don't always look so great.  Hence the need to match up part per part.  It's a safety net for me at least.

With that being said, I can highly recommend the Eduard Brassin AM kit.  The detail is amazing!  Intricately done yet very delicate.  The resin in some cases must be treated as if it were PE.  Yes, it's that thin and worse, it won't bend like PE.  LOL!  It's always my pleasure to post these threads, it is I that am thankful for you and forum members for following my projects!

M. Brindos

I am excited for you with this one, Toshi! All the bells and whistles! WOW!!

I like the way you've decided to build the kit parts with the resin replacements. That is a novel idea my friend!

I'm going to enjoy watching this one very much!  :D

I'm excited as well, at first a bit hesitant but as I started the kit it started to make sense.  I figured to build the kit parts as a template so that the fit and finish of the resin cockpit would be or try to be spot on.  I know how much trimming resin kits can cause as an issue.  Not fun at all!  LOL!  Thanks for following!

Bossman

Hi Toshi,

I'll be watching with all the rest of the crowd.  Eager to see the quality of this kit - so please let us know if you run into any "issues" with the build.  I don't think I've ever seen the Academy kit built up before. Looks good so far.

Chris

Thank's for following Bossman.  I'll definately let you know as well as all forum members know if I come across any issues.  I was shocked when I saw that there was a complete AM kit for the Academy Lightning.  I'll do my best.

I'll be watching this Toshi. The P-38 is one of my favorite fighters.

After reading about the heroics of the Lightning and it's pilots, it is one of my favorites as well.  I also have a Trumpeter 1/32 Lightning in the stash.  That should be fun!  Thanks for following!

I figured that the only way to get a good fit is to assemble the OOB parts and then assemble the resin pieces part by part and compare the two.

This is will be an interesting build as I've never done a complete AM PE/Resin kit for a Academy P-38 Lightning.  Instead of going into a story, I'll let the photos speak a thousand words!
