I know what your saying about lack of interest on threads. I've considered doing the same for the same reasons, but as long as someone finds my threads useful, I'll continue. A lot of it it has to do with the time of year where folks have limited time to check in. I know I have that issue right now. Today is the first day in a long time I've been able to sit down and peruse the forum. ....and that Corsair is looking great my friend.

Sorry to here you been ill, best wishes for a quick recovery.

The Corsair is looking really good, i thought that was a Montex mask on the tail until i read your coments. Thats really well done. How are you making these masks.

Thanks Bish,  I am on the mend, another day and should be OK.

The masks are really simple to make, I use Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop and a scanner. The "LD" was the easiest, just found the correct typeface scaled to correct size and outlined to a path. I

My local signwriter is kind enough to run them out on his vinyl cutter. I'm considering buying my own vinyl cutter at some stage in the very near future.

For the star and bars I used the original decal as a base, which I scanned. Then within Illustrator, I re-created it as a vector graphic, found the correct typeface for the Marines type and she was done. It took all of 10mins and a trip to have it cut.

Thats a nice idea, they look really well done, as i mentioned, i thought they were Montex until reading your post.

Thanks Toshi, I'm not a very good patient and hate being sick.

Thanks for your comment, but you will do a better job at a Corsair build than I.

Hey PJ,

Thanks for your kind comments, the infection has almost gone so I'm on the mend with very sore ribs from coughing.

I tried using post-it notes, but prefer old plastic bags as I can mask the entire fuselage from over spray, a lesson I learnt the hard way from old builds.

Gosh Damian, hope you get better soon! The work on your Corsair is fantastic.

You can use post it notes to mask around the stars and bars to help hide the carrier film.

UPDATE 30/7/17

It's been a couple of weeks since my last update, and things haven’t moved very quickly at all. I have been spending some time on designing work bench shelving which I hope to get the first samples next week and spent almost a week in bed with an upper respiratory infection that kicked me like a mule. As for the Corsair, she hasn’t had as much time spent on her as I would have liked.

When I finished up last time I had some problems with marks under the top coat, these did not go away with my first attempt and had to re-sand, prime and then top coat again. For the most part they are gone.

Then I realised that I had omitted several items from the under side of the fuselage that are only on the AU-1. The kit only supplied the middle item, the other two I scratch built from styrene rod and unused parts from the kit.

I moved onto to pre-decal stage with a gloss coat, having attempted airbrushing Alclad Aqua Gloss with very poor results I gave brushing it a go and bowl me over I finally get an adequate finish.

I used my first diy masks for the vertical stabiliser; the mask material is a little too thick but was satisfactory for this first attempt.

I also used some AM decals which went down well; I just wish I had removed more of the carrier film, live and learn.

I went to use the AM decals for the fuselage sides and things turned bad. So I made some more masks which I am yet to paint.

So this is where I got to before I got sick, as I have still an chest infection airbrushing is out of the question for time being.

Next update will be the final one, as I am on the home stretch.

Thanks for looking in.

Toshi,

I have been aware of your TBI since I joined FSM and I draw strength from you ability and conviction to carry on the after such an accidient. I deeply appreciate yours and others support and feedback, but I have struggled with this for over 30 years. I have been unemployed before, and things are getting harder, and I find it more difficult every time to pull all the pieces back together again.

I have found being part of this particular group highly enjoyable, and although it wont lead to employment has given me some regular interest that has lacked in my life.

Thank you for taking the to time to write with your support and to open up with what is truly personal experience.

Now, onward and forward I suppose.

Looking really good my friend!  Despite the minor set backs, I can vision in my mind how beautiful your Corsair will be.  You're a model beast!

I loved the engine and how you scratched built it.  Using the spoons to determine which blue to use was brilliant!  And now, you're on the home stretch.  I am so excited for you!  Keep up the good work.

As for traffic on your threads, don't worry about it.  Just keep doing your WIP and enter your completed kit into the gallery at FSM.  You might get lucky and have your Corsair in the Readers Gallery, you just never know.

Please do another one soon and many more, you'll eventually pick up more and more readers threads.  Do not get discouraged.  This is just your first WIP, and you're doing a great job!  I sir am your biggest fan especially any builder doing their first WIP with a CORSAIR!!!

We are all one big family here.  And this is a great community.  So please please don't stop!  Keep on building WIP threads!

Toshi

P.S.  BTW, you had 35 replies and 1127 views.  That's actually really good.

Thanks Toshi, your words humble me. I dont think this Corsair will be FSM gallery level work, but thank you so much for the ego boost Wink.

I'm just out of sorts again, heading into another long term unemployment period which doesn't help keeping the black vail from falling.

I do very much appreciate your comments.

I sir have been unemployed for seven years since 5/5/2010.  And I will be unemployed for the rest of my life.  You see, I got into a terrible accident at work.  I now have TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury).  You sir and all members of this wonderful community has helped me out of deep depression.

Yet I look forward everyday to see my beautiful wife and care for her needs the best I can, to see my one year old grandson, to be able to be at my bench to work on my current project a Kingfisher.

You will be employed again very shortly, do believe in yourself as I beleive in you.  In essence, these WIP at least for me (As I'm home bound) takes me all over the world.  From Australia to England and beyond.  It's my communication to the outside world.

Your WIP inspires me and allows me to see great works from you.  I so enjoy our conversations.  It's heart warming.  So continue your WIP.  You've got FSM Forum members that got your back!  You are the man!

Toshi

P.S. Now I'd like to see more progress of your Corsair.  It's my favorite aircraft of all time after watching a show called Baa Baa Blacksheep (VMF-214) as a young child.  I'm very excited to see where this is going.

Damian

I just came up on your Corsair WIP and I must say you are doing great scratch work. I have been busy with a couple of comissions so not much time to loiter on the web.

Those wires add tons of details to the build. The Corsairs is shaping up and just can't believe you had fit issues. I have always found Hasegawa kits to go together rather well.

Don't be discouraged by a slow crowd . I have posted before and it happens. I know the feeling of going thru the effort of taking pictures and posting only to get a few participants and usually are the same group who contribute but at least a few folks chime in. I do notice that usually the views outnumber the participants.

Thanks PJ for your supportive comments.

Feeling a bit flat at the moment, so minor things are getting to me.

Again I appreciate your supportive comments and encouragment.

Hey Dman, I'm glad you have found my progress to date interesting. I did the same for a long time, watching from the back of the room before I started getting involved. I'm no expert by any means, I just enjoy the process, less the end result.

I'm glad my comments on the Tamiya polish have helped you, just a note that you may want to obtain some reading/spectical cleaning cloths to apply the polish with. I cut up an old one I had, the soft microfibre cloth works well in the polishing process.

Thanks again for looking in.

Thanks, I was wondering if a cloth was needed.  I am sure I have a cloth for a pair of glasses lying around somewhere.

I hope you'll change your mind on that. I just post away and if theres loads of interest then great, if only a little, then so be it. As long as someone is looking. I've done builds when someone else was building the same subject and one thread gets lots more views and replies than the other. Go figure.

Thanks Bish, maybe your right. Just having a bad spell with lack non existant work. That's why I turned to modeling, to help me try and keep some focus. Again thanks for looking in.

Another one guilty of watching with great interest, but not commenting.  First off, the work you did on the engine is incredible.  YesYes  The pit is very well done, and this WIP is one of many that are inspiring me to learn how to make a proper pit.

Please keep posting WIPs.  Your discussion of technique and products is very helpful.  I will be purchasing the Tamiya polish you have spoken highly of.  Your canopy is impressive.

Thanks for sharing!
