Jay Jay, and Mike, thank you. I will post this close up where most of the worst gaffes are glaring... at least to me. But I am am quite encouraged how everybody here sees the forest, and not the trees on this build.

Ah, now I see it and I feel ya, buddy. But its not my build and I still think its gorgeous! :)

A feel a little weird being on the flip side of that. Lol! Always our own worst critics....

Toshi, thank you. I'm happy to hear that you like this one.

Mike, you nailed the thought. It did not quite turn out as desired, but I am overall happy with most of the results.

I picked up a nice PSP base over the weekend for this build. It came pre painted, but it needs some weathering, which I have begun.

Ok, this is now officially the end of my F-86's story... early in construction, the pitot tube was broken off the wing. No big deal, I set it aside in the box and figured that I would re attach it at the end of the build, while it would not be broken off again.  Unfortunately as I was preparing to do that, a mishap occurred... as it sat on my bench waiting to be glued on, I spilled a bottle of liquid cement, and the kit part was drenched and ruined...

Since the pitot tube was not straight, but bent at the base I knew that I could not easily scratch one up from plastic. I decided to try my hand at making a replacement from metal. Thin aluminum rod to be precise. I filed away a narrow portion for the tip, cut it to length, bent it to shape and then glued it in place with CA

With the remains of the original, and the replacement

And glued in place

Then I finished up the base and some accessories for "presentation" at this evening's monthly IPMS Chapter meeting and contest. I added a folded tarp on the wing root from the Tamiya Jerry Cans set, some POL drums from an ICM set, wheel chocks from the ESCI ground equipment set, and a F-86 rear fuselage stand from the Academy F-86 in my stash.

Well, all the effort paid off... she took 2nd place in the Master Category for this month, and also the Monthly Theme award of "Classic Plastic" (this is a mid 70's vintage kit)

For a kit that fought me much of the way to here, that is a very satisfying note to end upon...

Thank you bv. My mentioning of residence was actual residence, as in place of ;) I'm no doctor by a long shot. Nowadays I'm just a street cop nearing the end of my career. I have just enough medical training between the job, military service, and schooling, to keep somebody alive until the paramedics arrive and take over.

Did Monogram ever offer "The Huff"? Or maybe Hasegawa?

Yes they did. This was actually a "Huff" boxing of the kit. I sent the decals to vonHammer as I did not use them, and that bird was flown by a relative of his. "The Huff was part of the same flight as this aircraft that I made here. I think Academy has also offered "The Huff", and Superscale recently came out with a decal sheet in 1:48 that has "The Huff" and "Beauteous Butch".

Thank you Griffin. I think the base took it up a notch or two compared to the basic finished aircraft.

Really like that nice, very nicely presented. Even if not a dio, i much prefer aircraft at least on a base.and the equipment is a very nice extra touch.

Well done and very well deserved.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

Well done stik. Had a hard time finding the issues till you pointed them out, no biggie and still looks great. Great touch with the multi color panel tone variation.

My boss last name at my first job right after high school was Rudel or Rudell and was a P-38 pilot in the Pacific. No relation to the name on yours since he never mentioned a family member as a Sabre pilot.

Thank you PJ. Funny how your old boss and the pilot of the real Mig Mad Mavis shared variants of the same family name (not to mention the Stuka pilot). They are all perhaps related somewhere way back along the line from generations back. I did learn that this particular Ruddell at least made Colonel and commanded the 479th Fighter Wing when they had F-104s.

Yes he came from a flyboy family, so it's funny he was an Army type. Wasnt  his daughter an Army chopper pilot?

Not in Korea. Uncle Jim was a blue suiter, not AAF like the others. And I believe his dad was both. It would be nice if the old bugger would come back aboard here.
