No apology needed.  I welcome open discussion.  That's what the forum is for!  I just ordered some Mission Models RLM paints and I'll try them out on my next Lutwaffe build.  That's gonna be soon by the way, an FW 190 A-8 and a Battle of Brtiain Stuka (that order).  

Andy, I generally use Gunze's thinner with their paint, but you can get away with using Tamiya lacquer thinner or Isoprophyl Alcohol too.  I mix Gunze Aqueous and Tamiya paint all the time, particularly during weathering.  I haven't bought any in a while, but I've gotten them from luckymodel.com in the past.  They're based over seas and it takes forever to get stateside.  I've bought the off ebay as well.

I finished this one up last night.  To recap it's the 1/32 Hasegawa Ju-87 G-2 in the late 1944 markings of Uber tank killer Hans Rudel.  This one got metal gun barrels, PE seat belts, resin exhausts and tires.  Other than a few typical Hasegawa issues, I'm pleased with how it turned out.  The white "frames" on the canopy were decals applied from inside.  I thought these were gonna be trouble but they turned out ok.  Paint started out MRP but was switched to Gunze Aqueous.  All main markings were painted on with the use of Maktar masks/stencils. These are worth EVERY penny.

No, later. Thats the one he flew to surrender in, in May 45. According to some sources, the white stripes are indications of surrender.

The one dog did is the one he flew during the winter of 44/45 and i believe the one he was in in Jan 45 when hit by a 20mm shell which lead to his leg being amputated. Not sure if it was written off or patched up and given to some one else while Rudel was recovering.

As far as i can tell, the rest of the markings are the same, though note absence of yellow tail band. So if you wanted to do the earlier one, its just a case of leaving out the rudder strips, changing the work number and adding yellow markings.

Out of interest, what is the work number in your kit. Its not 494100 by any chance, with the numbers in black. If so, i take it there are two thin white lines either side of the rudder.

Pictures are worth 1,000 words, I see no armor plate as you mentioned Bish.

I also find it odd to find RLM02 in the pit at this stage. I wonder since it was inside and visible thru the plexiglass, if the light and plexiglass trick the eye to see a lighter shade?

Looks like I have to replace my black numbers with white ones.

PJ, i was woundering if the canopy in the pic of the G-1 that dog posted above could just be a trick of the light. But i do find it odd that any of the canopy framing would be the cockpit interiour colour on the outseide of the framing. Plus, but this stage, everything in the pit was RLM 66, so i am not sure why he painted those 02.

As for the cockpit side armour, i am convinced Rudels G-2 did not carry it. For one thing, you can see the triangular stencil just below the pit which would be covered by the armour plate.

As for tail number, it depends which aircraft your doign as Rudel flew at least 2 G-2's with the same markings. On the one Dog did, it is solid white, i have not seen a model of this one done other wise.

This pic shows both thge work nuber and lack of armour plate. On the work number, the second number, 9, is slightly lower than the rest.

This image of the same aircraft after it has been white washed also seems to show a lack of armour plate.

Dog and Bish I have a possible theory for the white decals. If the actual aircraft had those frames shot in RLM02, they would have looked lighter than the darker 70/71 scheme in BW pictures in contrast to the outside color.

Here is a build article by Brett Green covering the frame topic. He did however include the side pit armor which may or may not be correct? As you can see, the 02 looks almost white in contrast with the exterior paint.

The decal for the WNr # in the Trumpeter kit I have is not outlined in white as I have seen others so do we know for a fact if Rudel's tail numbers were solid black or white?  I haven't found any pictures of his actual Stuka showing the frame or tail number details. 

You figure that manufacturers do some type of research before releasing products. This goes for decal companies too. The last Tomcat I made, the aftermarket decals I used had the wrong tail numbers, ship's name and wrong color for the pilot and back seater's names. I had to dig into my spares and add things from other sheets to correct the errors.

Again, dog's Stuka is stunning.

Thats a great question.  The instructions allude to doing it this way and they provide decals for it.  The lines are in the inside of the glass which I used as a guide for where to put the decal.  I suppose the best answer for my reasoning is that I saw a well built example of this kit in a Google search when I was researching exhaust staining and I really liked the look.  There are no rivets but if it leaves that illusion........sweet!

Interesting. My kit has those decals but in black. I'm curiopus now as to why they would include white ones in some kits. Theres no sign of it on Rudels aircraft itself.

It does look nice though.

Gorgeous Joe. =] That bird is just begging to be stared at all day long. Those big guns are too damn sexy. I love everything about it. What was the pricing on the masks you used here? Are they on the same level with Montex? Also, the decals for the interior canopy...is that the decal film around the border or is that part of the decal as well? I'm starting to get on board with the same kind of idea with treating the interior of the cockpit windows. I haven't posted about it yet, but I've been using lead foil from wine bottles to glue to the inside and I just got clever about embossing them on one side to look like rivets on the opposite side. Saves you from having to paint and it not lining up with what ever is on the outside.

Britt, the masks performed about the same.  I got the Maketar from Spruebrothers for 12 bones.  They seem to only cater to 1/32 and up though.  Montex is comperable and I get those from ebay.  Personally I like them both and will use either.  

Reference the canopies, It's definitely decal film.  It's hard to get rid of this on clear plastic.  When dry, I did polish the insides with Novus cleaner which helped alot.  I normally don't worry about the inside of canopies, but this feature seemed prominent on the G Stuka.  I like the wine bottle foil idea...        

I'm coming in late on this, but wow!  Beautiful work as always, Lawdog.  Would you mind sharing some about how you made the display base?  Is that real dirt, commercial product, or some diy magic?

Fantastic build dog, love the paint and weathering. The recipient will be very pleased with  this fine looking model. 

As I mentioned earlier, I have the Trumpeter 1/32 cannon Stuka which looks very detailed    and impressive in the box.

Stunning build!  I would say more but my jaw has fallen to the floor!
